The Powers That Be Will Do All They Can to Support “Business as Usual”

While many are waxing poetic on the “blue wave” which is supposed to manifest this election cycle, I am actually optimistic this will not be the case. We all know The Powers That Be will do all they can to support “business as usual” in the political realm, but regular folks are getting mighty tired of that old song.

The race in Executive Council District 4 is potentially the most important seat in New Hampshire politics. Why would I say this?  Because this single seat will determine whether we have “business as usual” or a change in the Progressive trajectory within the Executive Council in Concord.

Elizabeth Vaughn at Freedom Outpost has a piece on the attrition at the FBI and DOJ (since the Trump investigation began), which is interesting but what caught my eye was this. She shares part of a conversation between Mark Levin and Sean Hannity in which Levin clears the decks on the question of certain security clearances and the President that handed them out. Obama.

Meanwhile — meanwhile! When these people had security clearances, what the hell did they do with them? Well, let’s take a look. The Russians interfered in our election, right? Well, who was president, who was head of the CIA, who was national security advisor, who was the head of the FBI?

Mason NH’s Barbara DeVore Revokes Sen. Avard’s Invitation to Town’s 250th Celebration

On February 26th, 2018 the town of Mason, New Hampshire invited State Senator Kevin Avard to participate in their 250th anniversary. The attached invitation, signed by Martha Ward, for the Town of Mason, indicates the event will be held on August 25th, 2018.

“We invite you to join us on August 25th for a day of celebrating the founding of our town.”

Sen. Avard accepted and confirmed his appearance and then again in June. But when his office called last week to finalize the details of his participation things got ugly.

As the discussion over Andy Sanborn’s Q Score heats up, I can’t help being reminded of Pete Rose, who — despite his singular accomplishments as a player — remains ineligible for the Baseball Hall of Fame.

To paraphrase former major league outfielder Jim Dwyer:  The Hall of Fame is for baseball players.  Heaven is for good guys.

If your goal is to win a game, or a series, or a title, who do you want on your team?  The handsome, well-spoken guy with nice manners?  Or the crass, hard-charging guy with the skills and the drive to get the job done?

I continue to get Stuff – this time, the NHFC candidate survey itself

Actually, have had it for a while – and from a number of candidates that were rather peeved at it.  Good thing – unless I was looking in the wrong place (always an option!), I couldn’t find it myself anywhere on the NHFC site.  I thought that rather ironic that a gun group demanding openness and transparency from candidates on their views of the Right to Keep And Bear Arms wouldn’t allow others to see the survey that is getting so much talk (and not in a good way).  I remind you to look at the above image and see Alan Rice’s declaration (he’s the head honcho and responsible for this fiasco) that if you don’t answer this you are automatically anti-gun.  Some little tin-pot tyrant, IMHO, making the demand “PAY ATTENTION TO ME OR ELSE!!!”.

What a putz (I can send you my “Joys of Yiddish” if you want, Alan Rice, to understand what that means.  Yiddish is such a wonderful language for times such as this). I, however, digress.

What follows is the actual survey that was sent out to the candidates. However, other than the inflated ego demand on full display, I did see something that was missing – something very important.

A north country writer made the case today, in the Union Leader, that the opening of a new Casino in Springfield, Massachusetts is proof that the casino market is not oversaturated in New England.

I spoke with someone who has lived most of their life around Springfield with deep ties to the community. The local buzz down there is that even the casino operators think New England is probably oversaturated.

Paul Manafort was indicted by Bobby Mueller for tax evasion and money laundering. No, not in regard to any relationship with Mr. Trump or his campaign or Russian political collusion. Recently I was discussing the latest Trump-related hysteria with a friend, who was upset about what he perceived to be a progressive double standard.  Basically, he was arguing that in cases where Trump is just doing the same thing that Obama was doing, then Obama’s supporters ought to be willing to admit that they’re either both right, or both wrong.  He thinks they’re not being consistent.

But I think they are being consistent, albeit in an unexpected way.

A few days ago Jack Minzey, head of the Department of Education at Eastern Michigan University as well as a prolific author of numerous books, most of which were on the topic of Education and the Government role therein, sent out the final chapter that was the last of his works. Jack passed away last 8 April 2018.

How do civil wars happen?

Two or more sides disagree on who runs the country. And they can’t settle the question through elections because they don’t even agree that elections are how you decide who’s in charge. That’s the basic issue here. Who decides who runs the country? When you hate each other but accept the election results, you have a country. When you stop accepting
election results, you have a countdown to a civil war.

“The design and intent of our government” – A Series

Following is a communication to some of my fellows in the General Court (Legislature) of the State of New Hampshire.  For those of you who don’t know me, I have spent the last eighteen years in the Legislature.  Most of my time has been spent on the Committee on Children and Family Law, because I see it as the quintessential liberty Committee.  If you understand that the concept a man’s home is his castle is a fundamental doctrine of common law, realize that every issue that committee deals with broaches the castle walls.  The only term that I was not on Children and Family Law, I was Chairman of the Committee on Constitutional Review and Statutory Recodification.  In 2006, after my arguments were used to convince the Legislature to call itself into Session vis a vis defending its powers against encroachments by the Judiciary, I  was convinced by my mentor in the Legislature to write a commentary on the Constitutions of the State of New Hampshire.  I gained national attention for my Resolution, HCR6, “Affirming States Rights Based on Jeffersonian Principles”.

Today I find myself not running for office, in order to relocate and reorder our lives after the death of our youngest son.  For the first time in 20 years there are no sign on the road side announcing my candidacy.  So the question arises, what is my political activity for the next two years.

I have settled on a general plan.

A little girl leaning into a lion’s cage. Suddenly, the lion grabs her by the collar of her jacket and tries to pull her inside to slaughter her, under the eyes of her screaming parents. A biker jumps off his Harley, runs to the cage and hits the lion square on the nose with a powerful punch.

Whimpering from the pain the lion jumps back letting go of the girl, and the biker brings the girl to her terrified parents, who thank him endlessly. A reporter has watched the whole event. The reporter addressing the Harley rider says, ‘Sir, this was the most gallant and bravest thing I’ve seen a man do in my whole life. The Harley rider replies, ‘Why, it was nothing, really. The lion was behind bars. I just saw this little kid in danger, and acted as I felt right.’

The reporter says, ‘Well, I’ll make sure this won’t go unnoticed. I’m a journalist with the Washington Post, you know, and tomorrow’s paper will have this story on the front page. So, what do you do for a living, and what political affiliation do you have?’

GrokDebates – yes, we want to do them. We ARE going to do them going forward

Over the years, GraniteGrok has made it part of our Citizen Journalism to cover debates.  One reason is that we like listening (and critiquing) who was there, what was said, and to determine their political philosophies with respect to the NH Constitution, US Constitution, and to date, the NH GOP. We did debates, and covered them in unique ways, that the mainstream press just couldn’t or wouldn’t.  Part of the later is either just a lack of time (on TV News) or space (newspaper “inches” or word counts.  We, on the other hand, have neither limitation.

We also covered debates that they didn’t – they (and often the NH GOP) are only interested in the top of the ticket races: Governor, US Congress, US Senate.  The other races?

Pound sand.  Well, no longer. I’ve been yakking about taking GraniteGrok to the “next” level – debates will be part of that.  While we will still cover other folks’ debates, we believe it is time to do our own.  And we shall.
