That special election in Ohio that was going to be the next “final nail in the coffin of the Trump ascendency” or whatever his downfall is being labeled as this week, didn’t happen. But it started out grand. The media was very excited about how close it was. Al Franken-esque “look what I found mom” ballot discoveries were going to shift the tide. And those absentee ballots…Democrat victory was nigh.
Not so much.
This past Saturday I had the opportunity to sit down and talk with Jay Lucas (who ran as the conservative alternative in the Republican Primary for Governor back in the 1990s) about his new book “American Sunshine: Rays of Hope and Opportunity” (which is available in both Kindle and hardcopy versions. I found him very pleasant to talk with (again, we do “conversations” rather than interviews) and we discussed his other volunteer projects as well.
Police in Wilmette, Illinois recently considered charges against a mother for letting her 8-year-old daughter walk the family dog around the block unsupervised. Predictably, a lot of people are reacting with incredulity. ‘How can something like this even happen?’ they want to know.
It’s very simple. It happens because we’ve made failure illegal.
So, Tom Thomson (son of Gov. Thomson of “low spending yields low taxes” fame) who for years was the honorary chair of AFP-NH which argues for Free Markets, has decided to go the Full Monty and arguing that electric rate payers (that would be you and I) should pay for his timber to be cut (e.g., override the biomass vetoes by Gov Sununu on SB 446 and SB 365 which would promulgate the over $2 Billion overcharges to keep the North Country Biomass subsidies for electrical generation plants that turn crap wood into overpriced electricity). Sure, Free Market until it comes to be “get me some” and have Government continue to institute a undeserved and mandated “tax” on the rest of us:
Tom Thomson, a timberland owner of 2,600 acres and the conservative son of former Gov. Mel Thomson, spoke at the event in favor of overriding the veto. “You have to weed your garden if you want healthy vegetables,” Thomson said. “It’s the same thing with forests.”
Hey, go weed your own dang garden, Tom, and leave my wallet alone. If you have any intellectual honesty at all, stop privatizing your profits and socializing your risk. You can’t find folks to buy your timber? Too bad – that’s the risk of being in business: reward AND failure. To paraphrase the line in your Op-Ed in the Concord Monitor:
If you have been following New Hampshire politics this year, you know that House Bill 1264 became law. HB 1264 is intended to end the undemocratic practice of allowing out-of-state residents to vote in New Hampshire elections.
Once HB 1264 becomes effective the act of voting in New Hampshire will be deemed a declaration by the voter that he or she is a New Hampshire resident. This, obviously, will dissuade drive-by voting (which massively favors Democrats).
Note what I just wrote: “[o]nce HB 1264 becomes effective.”
The congressional races get all the attention, but there are several “other” important primaries coming up. We’ve weighed in on a few including Jane Cormier in EC4 and Kevin Avard’s Pro-Peggy Gilmour Republican challenger. Another in need of your attention is State Senate District 9 between Dan Hynes and Terry Wolf. Dan and I have disagreements, but he isn’t a Democrat in sheep’s clothing.
That would (ironically) be Wolf.
Democrats are blaming Gov Sununu for failing to appear at the special session of the legislature. It is their contention that the legislation meant to put a stop gap on other states taxing New Hampshire business after the Wayfair decision could have passed the house had he appeared to support it.
No, it wouldn’t. Here’s why.
More blithering from Andy Martin who is running as a Republican in NH’s First Congressional District. He generally thinks he’s a big deal in the races he enters but generally ends up, in real life and in the real results, as a zero. But he’s well known by the inside-politics people and pretty much, everyone knows he’s gonna sue somebody at sometime for something. Let’s look at this first:
Maura Sullivan’s not from around here, but she’s getting used to being treated like she is. These pages have no shortage of commentary on her political relocation “therapy.” From her “gun-violence” narratives to how she holds a firearm in her commercial that is neither from the War in Iraq or anywhere in New Hampshire. The latter being where she was planted by the DNC to steal a congressional seat. The former a point of political posturing that is also under attack.

Democratic congressional candidate Terence O’Rourke of Alton is calling on fellow veteran and primary rival Maura Sullivan of Portsmouth to prove she’s a combat veteran.

The 603 Alliance released the results of an online straw poll yesterday and overall New Hampshire’s Establishment Republicans took a beating.
Before I examine the results individually, please understand that the voting was done via email using a unique password access for each email address in the distribution list. The participants are individuals who signed up to receive email alerts and information from the 603 Alliance before the release of the poll. There was no public announcement that we planned a straw poll, so no individual knew in advance.
A Democrat with a high-level security clearance is going to prison for leaking classified information to the press.
Former National Security Agency contractor Reality Winner on Thursday was sentenced to more than five years in prison after pleading guilty to leaking a classified report with information on Russia’s involvement in the 2016 presidential election.
An observation and then a question.
The sort of folks who rant about the coming right-wing theocracy break ideological bread with the fundamentalist-environmental movement which gets us right to the point. The Portsmouth City Council is aflutter over a “climate conference” at which, to their surprise, Bjorn Lomborg would be a participant.
Lomborg believes in Global warming, the man-made sort, but not enough. He’s something of a heretic to the faith depending on whom on the Portsmouth City Council you ask.
Humans are stupid. Just ask a legislator. The more progressive the legislator, the dumber you are. We know this to be true because of the things they try to legislate. That would be “every” thing. You are simply not bright enough to manage much if anything without their aid or influence.
Ironically, the cure for this human stupidity is to convince a majority of the aforementioned dolts to elect you to a public office. The more progressive the legislator the smarter and more sophisticated your transformation.
Remember the left’s dopey NOH8 campaign? Celebrities, Progressive thought Leaders, dopey politicians, and sheeple lined up to get their picture taken with the “NOH8” narrative logo? People who ignore, excuse, or justify the violence that would amount to a hate crime when perpetrated on people with whom they disagree. Her service as State Rep. earned the highest scores from many independent conservative organizations due to unwavering support for family values, property rights, smaller government, individual liberty, lower taxes, and Second Amendment Rights.
Jane is strong, principled, and independent. Her moral values and belief in God always lead Jane to do the right things for the right reasons. She is incorruptible.
For only the sixth time since 2000 CATO has ranked New Hampshire as the second Most Free State in the US. We were number one all the other times. Unfortunately, this is the third year in a row at number two, and while CATO examines that there is still plenty of good news (not that being #2 isn’t good news).
We have some work to do to get back to number one. But before we get to that let’s talk about this
Democrat Socialist Maura Sullivan is running to be the Democrat nominee for NH CD-1. She flew in from DC after growing up in Illinois; even NH Democrats are upset about having their own mini-Me-Hillary-style carpetbagger. Many folks are writing about her latest ad and so are we (here and here).
The point of this point is to point out the “weapon” that Sullivan wants you to believe is an actual “weapon of war” that she used in Iraq (while serving in a Supply/Logistics role). EXACTLY like what she had in Iraq. Nonsense on a stick.
