Husbandry of the people, by the people, for the people

I once heard Penn Jillette (of Penn and Teller) say that he had learned from experience that if you enter into a contract with someone thinking that you’ll be able to use that contract to make him do something he doesn’t want to do, you’re setting yourself up for failure.

Right to Self Defense… It Is Absolute

Our Second Amendment constitutional right is absolute, unless and until it infringes upon the rights of others. The act of owning a gun, regardless of the type, does not infringe upon someone else’s right. Using it to threaten, injure or kill them most definitely does. Guns are inanimate objects, tools. They are tools used by … Read more

Rights guaranteed by the Constitution (but not created by it)

By NH State Rep Mike Sylvia Recalling that our constitution provides, “All men have certain natural, essential, and inherent rights…” I’d like to expand on this concept of rights. I say concept because rights are an idea, as opposed to a real physical thing. Most would agree that our natural rights are part of being … Read more

New Bill of NON-Rights?

New preamble to the constitution . This has been attributed to Lewis Napper, a Jackson, Mississippi computer programmer. He didn’t expect his essay — a tart 10-point list of “rights” Americans don’t have — to become an Internet legend. ‘We the sensible people of the United States, in an attempt to  help everyone get along, restore some … Read more

Quick Thought – Wright Museum is now anti-gun. Oh, the irony!

Tom just put this post up announcing that the Wright Museum, a celebration of the battles fought by America in WW II and display some of what our military used to win WW II, is now going gun-free: Executive Director Michael Culver Ph.D. has declared that “Starting July 24, 2019, the Wright Museum of WWII … Read more

Let’s see if the schooling just delivered has any impact, shall we, Kevin Broughton?

Over at my post “Yep, I’m thinking this sums up what a lot of Conservatives are thinking” where I laid out what the Left thinks about the Right,  a certain Kevin Broughton (a “Zero Day” commenter meaning that this was his first DISQUS comment ever – sometimes a sign of being a troll in the … Read more

The Left is No Longer Hiding from the Tyranny of Their Worldview – They are Preaching It.

Frederica Wilson (D – Big Shiny Hats) is convinced the government should silence and prosecute people who criticize members of Congress. I can only assume that means she supports extra-judicial silencing of the same.

“ATF Audits reveal 1 in 4 NH Gun Line background checks are wrong

NH House Bill 109 – calling for Universal Background Checks for every purchase of a firearm – will wrongfully deny even more Granite Staters their rights! It is sponsored by NH Democrat Representative Katherine Rogers [yes, the same Democrat Rep who pleaded guilty to assault the day before Christmas 2017]. After Right to Know Requests … Read more

What Mueller’s Report Teaches Us About Democrats

The Mueller report is a partisan screed that does everything it can to make a case for guilt despite the lack of any evidence of guilt. Democrats, taking the cues Bobby Mueller left behind vow to continue the quest. And while they think the message is “Trump is guilty” the message is that neither evidence nor innocence matter.

Our Nation Was Founded to Protect Our Rights From People Like Democrat Douglas Ley

Like most Democrats, Representative Doug Ley thinks Government exists to protect us from ourselves or others. “Waiting periods can and do save lives by preventing impulsive acts of violence and suicide,” House Majority Leader Doug Ley said at a press conference after signing the bill. “Our most important job as legislators is to protect and … Read more

Part 1 – Testimony on behalf of HB564 – relative to possession of firearms in safe school zones

I am here in Concord to both record and to testify on HB 564 (“relative to possession of firearms in safe school zones.”).  It’s not a good bill – one that I would suggest is a nuisance bill that just makes it harder for law abiding gun owners to exercise their Second Amendment and Article … Read more

DISQUS Doodlings: So, the City of Toledo has declared that Lake Erie has “rights”?

I first saw this over at, naturally, Treehugger where all kinds of “just shake your head at it” stuff comes up. I predict this is going to be an awful thing and the only thing that will have “Rights” in the end will be the Lawyer Class (reformatted, emphasis mine): A triumphant win for Toledo residents … Read more

The dumbest argument in politics?

Now that a ‘red flag’ law (more precisely a ‘suspension of due process for gun owners’  law, although that would telegraph its intent too clearly) is being considered, it means we’re going to hear the following specious argument raised in its defense:  ‘Rights are not unlimited. For example, you can’t yell fire in a crowded theater.’

It’s amazing to me that an argument this dumb has managed to stay around for as long as it has.  Why?  Because it’s so easily refuted.

I’ll never cancel MY Professorial office hours for such a scaredycat reason

Given that my second go round at being an adjunct Professor starts tomorrow, my interest was piqued when I saw this over at Instapundit (full story from The College Fix after the jump):

HIGHER EDUCATION BUBBLE UPDATE: My professor canceled office hours because KU allows concealed carry, says he ‘no longer feels safe.’

What a wuss – and a failure on the part of a College Professor that is supposed to base themselves on known facts and not on emotions and “feelz”. The fact is that someone who has a CCW (State paperwork allowing concealed carry) is FAR more law-abiding than police.

Appellate Court Slaps Down University for “cavalier attitude toward petitioner’s due process rights”

UBMy interest in this decision is two-fold. First, no small amount of effort has been expended on these pages to highlight the abuse of rights on college campuses or the culture that facilitates it. Second, I attended the University of Buffalo, which was just dope-slapped by a New York State Appellate Court for its banana-republic-like judgment against a student.

In response to their disciplinary process, the court said,

Rick Notkin – candidate for NH State House, Belknap County District 2

Rick NotkinRecently I was asked why I was running for NH State Representative. The easy answer would be that I was corralled into it. Really, there was an open seat as one of the reps was not running for re-election so I had an opportunity to “put my money where my mouth was”, so to speak.

One of the main reasons that my wife and I moved to New Hampshire was the lower level of government intrusion into people’s lives. My overall view is supporting free-markets and individual liberty. I believe that when people have the freedom to engage in capitalism, the free market can solve many problems that arise. I also believe people should be able to run their own lives, as long as they don’t interfere with the rights of others.

Proponents of government programs and projects usually proclaim that given problems will be solved. “Leave it to us” actually seems to mean “you can’t handle it yourselves”. More insidiously, the actions (or inactions) of bureaucracies that are put in place to run the program often can’t reach the goals that were set.

New Hampshire Democrats Oppose ‘Common Sense’ Gun Legislation.

???
???

The New Hampshire House voted 184-146 to advance Senate Bill 500, housekeeping legislation meant to clean up the language in firearms statutes in the GraniteState.

Unlike the State Senate where approval was unanimous SB500 did not garner overwhelming bipartisan support in the NH House. In fact, it received very little support from House Democrats with 139 of the 146 no votes coming from the left.
