7 Boston Turns ‘NH Turkey Population News’ into Story About COVID Infections and Deaths

Dead Turkey

Today on baking with Betty, we’re going to make some fabulous Soufflet Pancakes because over 1300 people tested positive for the coronavirus, and several have died. Does that sound weird? Well, how about this. News 7 Boston turned a story about New Hampshire’s Wild Turkey population into sickness and death!

Officials say NH turkey population has increased by 300 percent” shares exciting news from the Department of Fish and Game. “[R]esults from its 2020 winter survey reflect 2,309 flocks totaling 40,476 turkeys statewide. That was more than four times as many turkeys counted in 2019 and twice as many as reported in 2018.”

Why?

The government trapped people in their homes with nothing to do but notice the damn birds, but that’s not how they spun it. “[T]here was an increase in backyard bird feeding as well as bird watching, which may have contributed to the uptick in reports,”  followed by,

More than 46,000 people have tested positive for the virus in New Hampshire, including more than 1,300 confirmed cases announced Sunday that include numbers for several days. Eleven additional deaths were announced, bringing the total to 780.

Forty-four percent of the Turkey story is about COVID19, which is clearly not a problem for the Turkeys, though they never say that. At least that would have made some sense. But that’s not the point.

No one in legacy appears interested in sharing data on this casedemic that actually puts the numbers in their proper context.

We took WMUR to the woodshed for their deceptive spin last week. Now it’s news 7 in Bahhstin!

Okay, Channel 7, here’s some data for you, pulled from the NH Case Summary Report (1/3/2021), as we do every day they issue one.

Let’s say you have a 99-100% chance of surviving a virus. In most cases, without any symptoms, but having tested positive. Would that be good, great, fantastic, or dismal? If you are the media, it’s the end of the world. But it’s not.

How about a 98.77% chance of survival. That’s still very positive.

The only folks who are at the most risk, most of whom are already in the state’s care, account for most of the mortality.

If you were a betting man, would you put your faith in the same state that skews these numbers to create fear where it need not exist? Or how about a media that does the same thing but for profit – to keep clicks and eyeballs on their pages?

Meanwhile, we’re telling people to go out and live your life because 99.8% who test positive survive the so-called pandemic and should be free to make risk judgments without the meddling media or politicians (the real turkeys) getting involved.

As a reminder, those over 70 always need to be careful during any flu season, and COVID19 has not been kind. You need to decide for yourselves with family, and your doctor or care provider, what is best for you, as does anyone with respiratory issues or other high-risk comorbidities.

But you should not have to give up your business, job, liberties, friends, Holidays, or anything else – quarantine or wear a mask (unless you want to do that) if you decide the risk is acceptable.

You should be free to choose based on an honest presentation of the risk and your tolerance for it.
