New Hampshire’s Congressional delegation is unified in its defense of the Granite State from efforts to make online purchases taxable. Their primary objection, and I’ll use Senator Shaheen as my whipping donkey for this, is the burden it puts on small business owners.

As a former small business owner, I know that most small businesses operate on small profit margins and struggle to keep overhead low. That’s especially true for small online retailers. It is unacceptable to impose major new administrative costs on small businesses while making it harder to compete with big-box retailers.

New Hampshire Democrats Oppose ‘Common Sense’ Gun Legislation.

The New Hampshire House voted 184-146 to advance Senate Bill 500, housekeeping legislation meant to clean up the language in firearms statutes in the GraniteState.

Unlike the State Senate where approval was unanimous SB500 did not garner overwhelming bipartisan support in the NH House. In fact, it received very little support from House Democrats with 139 of the 146 no votes coming from the left.

One of the issues with slavery from the founding of the nation (leading up to and past the civil war) is that there was a class of persons who did not believe or could not be convinced that their slaves were human beings. In their eyes, they were not people, so the idea of granting them rights made no sense.

Hitler took a similar stand with the Jews. They were inferior. As such they became scapegoats and a “question” resolved by genocide.

When Democrats Take Back Congress They Will Repeal Tax Reform

pelosiNancy Pelosi announced that one of the first things Democrats will do when they regain control is to repeal and replace recent Republican Tax reforms. And she promises it will be bipartisan and done in daylight, (unlike healthcare reform, I guess). So, what might that look like?

If previous proposals are any indication, Pelosi plans on instituting a major tax hike, particularly focused on punishing those same generous corporations. In a plan published last month, Congressional Democrats proposed a $1 trillion dollar tax hike, pushing the corporate tax rate from its current 21% to 25%, undoing tax breaks for high earners, and re-instituting a top tax bracket that could tax some Americans at a rate of nearly 40%.

The New Hampshire Young Democrats Facebook page has a status update seeking help to make phone calls to stop HB1264. They mean to prevent efforts that could stop “out of state students” “from voting in New Hampshire.”

These are the same Young Democrats who will not phone bank to end the injustice of high-priced out-of-state tuition rules which directly contradict their justification for letting those non-resident students vote here in the first place.

Let’s dig into that contradiction, shall we?

Malaysia on Monday approved a law against “fake news” that would allow for prison of up to six years for offenders, shrugging off critics who say it was aimed at curbing dissent and free speech ahead of a general election.

Dogs and Guns and Democrats…Oh My!

People who are unfamiliar with dogs or have never owned one, are more likely to be intimidated or even afraid of them.   While people who are familiar with dogs, grew up with them or own a dog, understand them, know how to read their signals, and have the sense to have some respect for what they are capable of, particularly when they meet one they are not familiar with.

Guns are the same way.  People who are unfamiliar or who have never handled or owned a gun are intimidated,  wary, even frightened of them.  While lawful gun owners, hunters, sport shooters, and  folks who feel the need to own a gun for self defense are more likely to understand them, and have the sense to have some respect for what any gun is capable of particularly when they are introduced to one they are not familiar with.

Democrat’s “Drop-Out” Chickens Coming Home To Roost?

Former New Hampshire Governor John Lynch liked to talk about how his administration had overseen a historic decrease in the number of kids who dropped out of public school with a mission to get that number down to zero.  Not such an absurd idea when you consider how it is that he managed the ‘reported’ decrease it in the first place.

Lynch and the Democrats simply changed the name and the definition of a “drop out” and stopped counting anyone who dropped out by any other name.
