Why I Need Your Tax Dollars, by Gary Hirshberg

Gary Hirshberg CE-Yo of Stonyfield Farms wants you to know what he thinks about a recent taxpayer investment in organic farming.  His editorial in this mornings Union Leader goes on at great length extolling the virtues and benefits of organic farming.  It will create jobs, better food, help grow the organic farms footprint and provide fresh local dairy products.

He never mentions that his fresh local dairy farm is owned by a huge multinational French conglomerate of which he is a prominent international player. (Big Dairy!)

There is also no discussion of why a university study on cow farts helps organic farming, nor an explanation as to why such research–even if it were for something else meant to benefit such a "productive" sector–should not be paid for by the huge multinational French conglomerate that stands to profit from it.

Groupe Danone, the French company that owns Dannon yogurt and Stonyfield Farm is clearly interested in scooping up profitable organic farms to add to its multinational conglomerate.  If the local dairy business is such a growth sector as Hirshberg claims, why is Danone letting the federal government front this research at taxpayer expense if it is so critical to the development of a business model from which it can profit?

The question answers itself.  Hirshberg (and Danone) stand to benefit on the taxpayer dime.

So the CE-Yo, a guy who has spent about $150,000.00 of his own dollars this past decade in support of liberal democrats, is trying to convince you that this is really just corporate socialism and not environmental wackoism.

And that’s not a wasteful or frivolous use of your tax dollars?
