There are many things a local, state, and federal government can do for its people, from ensuring clean, drinkable water and road maintenance to police and fire protection to border security. But there are some elements of life that the government should avoid, and Portland, Maine, is considering crossing the line on two of them.
Remember that time when we told you about the five counties in Oregon that wanted to secede to Idaho. That was February. All five have voted in special elections on May 18th, and they want out of Oregon, bringing the total to seven.
Portland was long past stupid many years before George Floyd overdosed on Fentanyl. We have close to 200 posts on this progressive policy poster child. Their latest left-wing tantrum included yanking 15 million and ending the city’s gun violence reduction team. Shootings are up over 116% from 2019.
Add this new act to the list of stupid Democrat tricks. Portland, the city that can’t sleep because of the rioting, got #woke, and now they’ll go broke. Defunding the police has cost them 7 million more year-over-year, a 200% increase in law enforcement spending.

After three months of encouraging riots and violence by left-wing proxies BLM and Antifa, Oregon Governor Kate Brown has a plan to bring peace to Portland. The only problem is that she didn’t make peace with local sheriffs and police chiefs first and they are saying no, thanks we’re not interested.
The Oregonian reports there is a man under investigation in a fatal shooting in Portland. His name is Michael Forest Reinoehl. He supports Black Lives Matter and Antifa. Reports say his victim is a man, Aaron Danielson. Some knew him as “Jay.”
Police said a caravan of Trump supporters left downtown Portland around 8:30 p.m. Officers heard gunshots at about 8:46 p.m. CBS affiliate KOIN TV reports two men were seen yelling at each other. The altercation took place around that time. There are reports of hearing gunshots.
The mayor of Portland, Oregon is an idiot and that’s being kind. He is pleading for an end to the violence. How stupid can one mayor be? Yes, after a person was shot and killed the mayor thinks maybe things have gone too far.
Minneapolis was the epicenter of the spark that lit the powderkegs but there were no Democrat-run cities that blew up like Seattle and Portland. Both have had riots for months. And some businesses in Portland have had enough. They are thinking about moving out of downtown.

The left’s agenda is impossible without violence. Advancing it requires force and a militant police state to keep it that way. You can’t take things from people or make them do what you want without a means to punish those who won’t comply.
Being #woke, like most far-left constructions, requires a confusing blend of ideas in constant conflict. There are no genders, but men who are transgender dress up like women used to do before there were no genders. You’d think urinals could survive in that world, but no.
Journalist Andy Ngo got beat up by Antifa. The far-left group, along with Portland’s Democrat Socialists for America, attracted hundreds to counter protest a tiny prayer group. The resulting violence and destruction were met with criticism but wait till you see how the Portland PD Chief has finally responded.
A Portland Patriot Prayer Group held a ‘Him-Too’ gathering. In response, hundreds of Antifa thugs showed up along with members of Democratic Socialists of America of Portland to stop it.
A ballot initiative in Portland Maine to increase the minimum wage to $15.00 per hour failed last Tuesday. What makes this defeat so instructive is that Portland IS the Democrat Mecca of Maine.
