Being #woke, like most far-left constructions, requires a confusing blend of ideas in constant conflict. There are no genders, but men who are transgender dress up like women used to do before there were no genders. You’d think urinals could survive in that world, but no.
These white porcelain monuments to the patriarchy are like statues are to racism. They represent the oppression of people who can pee standing up. Not that this means anything. Not being able to pee standing up is no sign whatsoever that we are different. Nor does it challenge the reality of the genderless future as little more than more cultural Marxism. A fraud. A lie.
But if that were o, the city of Portland removing all the Urinals in a large public building would make no sense.
We will continue to have gender-specific (male and female) multi-stall restrooms that are readily available to any employee that prefers to use one. But, there will be no urinals in any restroom in the building. This will give us the flexibility we need for any future changes in signage.
Alex Parker, writing at RedState, shares a valuable observation from Hugh Hewitt. Flush toilets use a hell of a lot more water than a urinal. Even the new kind of toilet you have to flush twice (even if you only flush them once) uses significantly more water. The result of this new #woke rule will waste thousands of gallons more water a day. Multiply that by ten years (instead of 12) because surely this will accelerate the prophesied climate apocalypse, and that’s a lot of water.
For what?
This psychological experiment whose goal is to turn America into a place where whether you stand or sit to pee is far less of a concern than finding toilet paper (ala Argentina).
Oh, and the bathroom remodel of this one #woke building only cost taxpayers 195 million dollars.
