Carol-(S)Care

Carol-Care Meets RealityIndependent voices might have some expectation of doing independent things.  Things like reading legislation or accessing resources outside the ones the people desperately selling a bill want you to stick to.  That kind of open mindedness would go a long way to demonstrating integrity and responsibility.  Or you could be Carol Shea Porter.

Carol sold Health Care reform as instructed.  She shifted gears as instructed, spun when asked, and followed the talking points all the way to the bitter end like a clumsy dancer following on the fly choreography.

But now that the reality of what she has done is upon us, it sure would have been nice to have an independent voice instead Carol Shea-Porter.

CSP Rewind – Foreign Trade

Heartless, Callous Train Wreck Picture
Carol’s Driving….

Carol Shea Porter (CSP) continues to demonstrate her inability to grasp even the most basic concepts of governance.  Back in May of 2009 she issued a press release promoting her signing on to a letter suggesting that the Panama Trade Promotion Agreement, (TPA) also called the Panama Free trade agreement (FTA), would in essence cost American Jobs. To Quote the congresswoman…

“”I don’t want to have to vote for unemployment benefits. I want to vote for jobs.””

And to quote from the body of the letter she signed on to…

“”This disconnect between the Panama FTA and the current needs to restore our economy will make any vote on this FTA difficult to justify. Indeed, it appears to be the opposite of the “change” theme Americans voted for in the last two elections.””

Unfortunately for Carol, the real disconnect is between what Big Labor Lobbying groups (her number one campaign donors) have told her change means, and the reality of the Panama TPA’s impact on trade and jobs in the US.  But if Carol wants to dip her big toe in the waters of the international trade pool with blinders on, let me be the first to show you how she’s all wet.

Carol Shea Porter…On Veterans

Carol Shea-Porter has always claimed to have some kind of commitment to the troops.  And you don’t have to look far to find some suitable rhetoric on veterans either.  But when CSP voted to maul health care, and then later deemed it passed so she wouldn’t actually have to go on the record again supporting … Read more

Carol…On Helping Small Business

Even as a child, Carol could not keep the train on the tracks

Carol’s good work keeps on rolling in like the smell of low tide on a salty breeze.  Maybe you recall that five ream masterpiece of brevity appropriately mislabeled as health care reform?  Well it came fully equipped with a manifold of other disasters buried inside, one of which was that anyone with business income will have to issue a 1099 for every entity with whom they spend $600.00 or more in goods and services in a calendar year.  And you thought the Health care Castration Bill wasted paper?

This creates several problems for small business the biggest of which is the regulatory burden of having to deal with all that extra paperwork.   It will take more time and cost more money just to comply with the rules ‘deemed’ by Section 9006 of Carol-Care.  That amounts to millions  more dollars in lost productivity on left wing busy work that Carol and her ilk have now released from America’s employment engine and diverted into the ice-rimmed, bottomless, suck-hole of the bureaucracy.

So how does that play against Carol’s rhetoric?  Not well.

It’s Train Wreck Week!

I'm supposed to read what first?

It’s Carol Shea-Porter week over at Boo-Hoo Hampshire. That means quality opinion about the antics of the 1st district congresspersonista from New Hampshire are the order of the day, every day, until next Monday. So the guys at Granite Grok are more than happy to embrace Carol’s stated commitment to bi-partisan support, an angle you are not going to find at Blue Hamster, by providing alternative commentary about her for the duration, in honor of her having voted with her party leadership 98% of the time.

By the way. Do you know why Carol only votes with her party 98% of the time? She’s missed 2% of the votes.

But to be fair, and we know Carol is all about fair, we’ll leave it up to Blue Dumpster to produce Carol’s bi-partisan record in congress.  That’s when she does not vote with the leadership PAC money that keeps coming her way for being such a good little do-bee.  (Remember what Frau Pelosi says..don’t be a "Dont Bee," be a "Do Bee.") So good luck to them.  I don’t think they can pull it off.  Carol is easily one of the most reliable votes for the expansion of the Nancy-State.

I’d also like to see them merge her voting record with the "Independent voice for New Hampshire" rhetoric, an equally challenging effort given the facts. Of course Dean is not looking for facts he’s looking for sympathy. He’s mounting this "give Carol a big ol’ hug" campaign to energize whatever is left of the base or it’s support for Carol Shea-Porter since the independent voice of the independent’s has jumped ship leaving him with his voice, the left wing church choir, and a handful of RINO’s lurking over at Red Hampshire.  So how much you want to bet we get more traffic on ‘CSP Week’ than he does?

Dope of the Week: Creigh Deeds. If all media in America did this, we be further along in exposing and fixing what’s wrong… and ID-ing the perps!

Man, talk about getting a politician to screw himself into the ground. "I’m NOT going to raise taxes. I’m just going to collect more money to pay for stuff. Everything’s on the table. Except taxes. The new ones. That I’m not gonna raise. For anything. Except transportation. Never, I say! Got that?" Hmmm. You think … Read more

Flag Flap Update: This guy just won’t stop stepping in it!

Wolfeboro flags

The following letter was sent by the flag-removal lawsuit filer Claude Roessiger’s lawyer to one of the veteran activists expressing displeasure over what he tried to do to Wolfeboro’s public display of Old Glory. You’d think the guy would have simply crawled back under the rock from whence he came following his withdrawal of the suit. But nooooooo…

Writes the letter’s recipient:

Believe it or not I got an email this morning from Roessiger’s attorney trying to convice me that his client is a Patriot, and that the displaying of American Flags in Wolfeboro was a partisan display. Here is Attorney William Chapman’s actual comments:

Mr. Howe-

I am the attorney who represented Claude Roessiger in the now-terminated suit against Wolfeboro. He brought suit because the town refused either (1) to remove the American flags it is permitting a resident to display on town utility poles or (2) to allow Mr. Roessiger to display his own banner on those poles containing advice from George Washington that our country should avoid foreign entanglements.

Please be assured that Mr. Roessiger is a patriotic American who believes in what our flag stands for. What he objects to is someone using the flag and town property – public property – to advance a particular political viewpoint: support of the Bush Administration invasion of, and continued troop presence in, Iraq. It is clear from minutes of the meeting at which the selectmen approved the display of flags that they both understood and agreed with the reason for displaying the flags.

Mr. Howe, who is organizing tomorrow’s American Legion Flag Day motorcyle ride through Wolfeboro, replied, putting the whole thing in context:

Dope of the Week Award

(not Wolfeboro… just a random pic) It’s been a while, but the coveted GraniteGrok Dope of the Week Award begs to be presented once again… As found in yesterday’s Citizen newspaper: A Wolfeboro, New Hampshire, man is suing the town over a downtown display of American flags. The town has about 100 U.S. flags affixed … Read more

At least he’s consistent. Dope of the Week Award…

money sack..Screwer of taxpayers, Ray Burton..NH DOT workers..paying NH gas tax
.
Why this guy continues to fool the voters as he does is beyond me. As reported in all of the state’s major media outlets at the end of last week, "Republican" Executive Councilor Ray Burton, fresh on the heels of sticking it to motorists with the new toll hikes, now wants to raise the tax on gasoline.
.
In response to the "sudden" shortage of funds at the state’s poster child for totally blind fiscal foresight–the NHDOT, long-range highway plans are being revised, and, naturally, the politicians, led by this long-time faux-Republican, are once again poised to head straight for our wallets…
Executive Councilor Raymond Burton, R-Bath, who heads a committee charged with developing the plan, said unless the gas tax is raised, the state will continue to struggle to keep up with highway needs.
Notice he says nothing about maximizing the value for our dollars. He says nothing about eliminating the rampant waste that is obvious to all who have eyes and can see orange. He says nothing about what the DOT can do to regain the confidence of the hapless motorists here in the state. No, all this consummate big-spending, taxpayers-be-damned oily politician can do is TAKE MORE!!!
.
And don’t think for a moment that Mr. Burton has taken any sort of a new position in light of present circumstances, either (unless you consider that, given the recent bridge collapse, the time is right for a propaganda campaign using the incident as a scare tactic). No, one thing about Ray Burton is that at least he’s consistent. He’s for screwing taxpayers today, as he was yesterday– as he has ALWAYS been. Consider this from the American Society of Civil Engineers website, dated mid-February, 2004:

Dope of the Week: John Edwards (again)

.
As a small business owner, I have found that most proposals that come down the pike from Democratic politicians run counter to what we need from government. In fact, now that I think about it, I cannot think of much that they have proposed that has done anything but HURT small businesses. Oh sure, they do much in the name of the workers, often for short-term gains at high long-term expenses– once a business closes shop and goes elsewhere to get away from suffocating regulatory expenses and confiscatory tax rates, then what?
.
Anyway, when I read the story about Democrat presidential wannabee John Edwards’ latest offering yesterday, I thought, "This again? Ho-hum." The Citizen (Laconia, NH) newspaper delivered the news:
When it comes to helping parents take time off from work, Democratic presidential hopeful John Edwards is raising the stakes.
.
The former North Carolina senator on Tuesday will propose spending $2 billion a year to help states create family leave programs that offer workers at least eight weeks of paid time off to care for a newborn or ill family member. The proposal is similar to those offered by his rivals but Edwards would put up more money — Sen. Hillary Clinton’s plan calls for $1 billion a year; Sen. Barack Obama proposes $1.5 billion.
No big deal here, right? After all, it’s pretty much standard Democratic fare. They have been trying to buy votes with promises of time off for work for years. Why would I care any more this time around? What’s a few extra billion among friends? But then the next line in the story caught my attention:

I know that guy!

I live 5 miles from the center of the Town of Bradford. There’s not much excitement here in this rural community especially out where I live. It’s why we moved here from Bedford’s hustle and bustle in 1991. We love the outdoors and the privacy we have on our 27 acres. Yep, even a river runs through it…well, it’s really a brook and, unfortunately, I’ve never seen Brad Pitt fly fishing here although he and Angelina and the kids are welcome.

We regularly watch deer from our farmer’s porch. Beautiful herron’s land on our pond, and life is pretty simple and quiet most of the time. Sometimes we see bears and moose cutting through our property. Canadian geese make regular stops when migrating. Wood ducks mate and meander through the water. It’s peaceful and beautiful, and we’re blessed to live permanently in what many others would consider a vacation home.

Unbelievably, the peace was interrupted Monday when the little branch of Lake Sunapee Bank was robbed at knife point. Yep, it’s where I bank and I know all of the tellers by name and see them out and about elsewhere in the community.

I also substitute taught at the Kearsarge Regional School District for several years and fairly regularly saw Mark Laspesa,, the alleged bank robber, sweeping and going about his custodial duties. I talked to him there a few times and he helped me move some desks. He was always pleasant to me.

I was shocked to see his picture in the paper, click here, while he was in the midst of allegedly robbing my local bank. More accurately, "armed robbery" since apparently he had a knife.

Mr. Laspesa is most definitely the Dope of the Week. Why, you ask? He wears no disguise, he banks at the branch he alledgedly robbed, he uses his own car, the tellers and many people in town know him; when the police catch him, he still has the clothing and knife used in the robbery…need I go on!

It really makes me wonder why this quiet, former custodian would do such a stupid thing. Since he made it so easy to be caught, I can’t help but wonder what made him so desperate? I almost feel sorry for him, although I’m sure the very nice gals down at the bank may have been quite frightened. I’m sure I’ll see them later today, when I do some banking, and hear the entire story.

Of course, it’s all the town’s people have talked about since then. Well, at least it takes the focus off of what they usually gossip about. You know small towns; if they don’t know anything about you, they just make stuff up whether it’s true or not. Our family was verbally "victimized" by many townspeople shortly after we moved here because people "heard" we were in ministry.

The rumors were unbelievable and some of them were just plain bizzare. My husband and I tend to ignore such things, but when our 6-year old son came home from school one day and told us about some of the horrible things kids were saying to him about us, my husband took action.
