It's been a while, but the coveted GraniteGrok Dope of the Week Award begs to be presented once again...

As found in yesterday's Citizen newspaper:

A Wolfeboro, New Hampshire, man is suing the town over a downtown display of American flags.

The town has about 100 U.S. flags affixed to downtown utility poles as a way to show support for American troops fighting in Iraq. But Claude Roessiger claims the Bush administration's foreign policy has turned the flag into a symbol of what he calls "in-your-face, with-me-or-against-me patriotism."

In his lawsuit filed Carroll County Superior Court, Roessiger says the display is excessive, unusual and unlawful.

What do you say? What kind of person is offended when travelling through small town America lined with flags? I always found the sight uplifting. Even when Clinton and Carter were president...

Guys, here's a snippet of what I sent in to Pak 2000, which is apparently a NH company run by this odious gasbag named Roessiger: "We have recently been completely disgusted by news that your CEO (Claude Roessiger) has sued the Town of Wolfeboro for displaying the American flag. What an insolent form of garbage and a waste of our money for this gasbag Claude Roessiger to sue the town! Do you not realize what effect this will have for your company and its employees? This sounds to me like a case of someone growing senile and disturbed, requiring an immediate exit from their position before any more damage is done. I certainly will go out of my way now to avoid any kind of product or service provided by your company. I will urge my fellow citizens to avoid you as well. Please send Claude Roessiger packing north to Canada where all the true cowards go running when our freedoms are on the line. This entire incident is disgusting and saddens me greatly that anyone in our beautiful State of New Hamshire could have their head so deeply buried up their arse. -Bob Southard" I hope many hundreds of people will take the time to express their displeasure over this man's watse of our tax dollars. Here is a copy of the letter I sent to Pak 2000 and Claude Rossinger. Pak 2000 I was disgusted when I learned of the disdain by your Chairman, Claude Roessiger over the display of American flags flown in his town and his lawsuit that he is filling. Did he forget he lives in America? Did he forget that flag represents our country? Did he forget all of the men and women who sacrificed their lives for America and her flag? Obviously he didn't serve under that flag our he would be proud to have her waving from every building and every street corner. I fly that flag daily at my home and no one is going to tell me I can't. I have numerous folded flags displayed in my home. One that was draped over my sons coffin. My son Marc Alan Lee was the first Navy SEAL killed in Iraq 8-2-06 and he gave up his life for our freedoms and the right to fly that flag. I am deeply hurt and offended by Claude's' outrageous law suit. I am demanding an apology and will be notify the thousands of people on my email list. In case you think I can't impact your company go to youtube and type in my name and see what happened when I confronted the City Council in Berkeley. A boycott started which resulted in millions of dollars being pulled from contracts in Berkeley. You think the flags flying are "excessive and unusual," wait until you see the response from American Patriots who love our flag. Disgusted, Debbie Lee

I urge every patriotic American to register their disappointment and anger with this man's firm as well as the town of Wolfeboro. At the very LEAST - What a horrible waste of taxpayer money. But more importantly, what a terrible affront to the men and women who proudly and bravely serve this great nation. Since when has a display of patriotism ever been wasteful? Since when has ANY display - in a free country by the way - been considered illegal because its "unusual". Who is he to decide what constitutes unusual. So what if he doesn't agree with George Bush's policy - the American Flag belongs to the American People, NOT to George Bush. Unlawful? To fly the American flag? Since when? Have we missed something? ....Some law that passed while we were all asleep making it unlawful to fly the American flag? I hear things like this and can't believe that these are the kinds of people that my one and only son went to War for - to protect and preserve their rights to do such idiotic and stupid things. May those who have sacrificed their lives (for nutcases like this man) be forever in our hearts and may we also remember that there are so many other Americans that are NOT like this.

I posted about this on my blog and I have had a response from a Wolfeboro resident that tells me there is a side to the story that we "don't know". I asked them to be more specific and I cannot wait to see if they "fill us in". I originally posted the address and web site to PAK2000 but then thought that if this guy is that "sue happy" he might come after me next.

My son Lncprl. Adam R. Brooks USMC, was killed in Iraq in 2004. I dont have any love for Bush, but I do Love our country. If Roessiger is offended by flag displays, then leave the U.S. Go where he might have less freedom.

Thank you Skip for this posting...I have sent it out to about 300 people and have heard from so many that are writing directly to the company....Just like the posting from Debbie Lee....thank you Debbie. So this is a Swiss company - and he is from where??? First, he should apolgize for his ignorant remarks about our flag, country and our President - and to Jim and Lynn Savage - their son Matthew was KIA on 12/16/06. They are from Wolfboro. It amazes me that the "Bush haters" will stoop this low to even suggest the flying of our flag is because of our President. I have had a flag on my property since we moved her 6 years ago - I am proud to be an American - where he (not sure he is an American citizen) can say what he wants. He reminds me of a saying that I only use for idiots like him....If Claude's brains were converted to gasoline, it would not be enough to drive a piss ants motorcycle around the inside of a Cheerio... Let the boycott begin...

I suggest you fire this unpatriotic dumb ass before he destroys your company's reputation. This will not go away and there is a strong ground swell of anti Claude Roessiger sentiment building as I write this. The American Flag is insulting to this freaking clown? Claude "Hopper" Roessiger has pissed off quite a few Americans and we are not going to go away until he drops his ridiculous lawsuit. The media portrays items how they wish, or more realistically, what gets their items read. This is the perfect case where opposition of a town's decision turns into someone hating America or the flag - this is not the reality of the situation, but if it helps you get more hits, then whatever works.

Here's waht I emailed to PAK 2000: I am the mother of two sons who served with honor in Bosnia, Pakistan,and Iraq, and until recently was a resident of Wolfeboro. I find it disgusting, disturbing, and totally shocking that your Mr. Claude Roessiger is suing the town because of the beautiful American flags flying in the downtown area. You can be assured that I will never use any of your products, and will spread the word to friends and family to boycott your company. How shameful that someone who is taking advantage of all the freedoms here in the USA is trashing that very symbol of freedom- and is showing incredible disrespect to all who have served and are now serving to protect us all. Despicable!

Dear Anonymous...is your name Claude??? It would be nice if you had the courage to sign your name...but I understand that it takes someone with backbone. But, speaking of the media - you are quite right they usually are one (left)sided and write the news instead of reporting the news. I for one of thankful for outlets such as the Grok where you can find real truthful news stories, along with other outlets like them. Do you remember after 9-11? The USA was united and the flags waved from houses, cars, etc. The town of Wolfboro or any other American town should be able to display our countries flag at anytime, not just on Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Veterans Day, etc. but everyday. So, don't try to spin this away from the issue....Claude has filed suit against the town - for their right to fly the flags. Maybe he should move - I am sure that a country like Canada or France would welcome him. (do you need help packing???)

FREE SPEECH is a right in this country and I thank God for it. But Free Speech doesn't mean you are free from accountability for what you say. Here is the message I sent to the website. (and if you can't figure it out from this message the U.S. Federal Reserve Bank is one of this pitiful company's customers) "I simply can't believe that a company that wants to do business in the United States is led by an individual, Chairman Claude Roessiger, that can't stand what this country stands for and hates the US Flag so much that he will actually waste his money (or is it the company's money) and taxpayers money with such a lawsuit. Does he not realize that the American People will no longer support this company or any company that supports this company. It is probably best for you to close up shop in America because I know the world will spread and your sales will be lost. I also know some Senators and Representatives in Congress that will not allow the Federal Reserve to purchase your bags any more. Such an attack on our country when they are one of your customers. That makes perfect business sense." I might even call their switchboard tomorrow to express some of my FREE SPEECH. He tries to make himself out to be a patriot when in fact a true patriot would not even think of doing what he has done. I cannot believe that Claude has the audacity to write such letters. If he only knew the sacrifices my family and I have given for this country and his very freedom. MY message to the P.O.S. is as follows, and I truly hope that a firestorm of exposure causes this "company" to go out of business!........ Perhaps Claude the clod can design a RUSSIAN flag bag for your company to distribute to all his fellow America haters. What an appalling POS this man is to have such disdain for the flag that represents his own country...or does it? My letter to Claude, his Board, Levi's and the town: Last week we celebrated Memorial Day. Our little town (thankfully not in NH where Mr. Rossinger might have been “offended”) was festooned with American Flags, the center was filled with children and parents, grandparents and pets, all lining the streets to honor those who have sacrificed so much, some even their lives, for this country. My family looked upon those flags with pride. We looked at them as a reminder of so many brave men and women. What a travesty that Mr. Rossinger is wasting the town of Lancaster’s resources on a frivolous lawsuit. What an embarrassment for the town of Lancaster to be in the news for such a disturbing and disgusting display of personal derangement. What an embarrassment to PAC 2000, their clients and their Board members. I can not imagine that Levi’s, VW, Prada and others would be thrilled to know that the head of one of their business partners looks with distain on so many of their clients and employees. What kind of town and company produces and supports such a bitter and troubled soul? Does he represent you? Does he speak as the town for you? If so, I hope that vendors and customers of PAC 2000 get that message loud and clear and decide if they want to be tinged with his vitriol. I hope his fell towns people either rally to his side in agreement so that the rest of America knows who makes up your little borough, or they publically cast off his craziness and let the world know that one little narcissist does not speak for Lancaster. Mr. Rossinger, I am not certain what terrible things have happened to you in this fine country to make you so bitter, myopic and strange, but I hope that you find the resources to heal them. My perspective on this situation is certainly not to defend Mr. Roessiger. It is obvious that his transcribed thoughts (or thoughtlessness) work faster than his brain. What is obvious is that Mr. Roessiger's insensitive views were from his own insensitive mind. From my perspective, it is unfair to assume guilt by association and to punish the good, hardworking people of PAK 2000, many of whom are also veterans. I would think that most of these people are as upset as everyone else, including me. However, ONE BAD EGG does not spoil the bunch; do not chastise these good people. Some are your friends; others are your neighbors; they share your views. Deal with Mr. Roessiger separately, as an individual. I would think that the beautiful town of Wolfboro & their selectman would not lower themselves to the level of Mr. Roessiger. Hurting PAK 2000, whether locally or throughout the country, will affect the wrong people, who are not responsible for this ridiculous lawsuit. I urge everyone to use good sense & judgement...something that was obviously lacking in Mr. Roessiger's thought process.

Apparently, Claude is quite the peckerhead. These notes come from a Selectmen's Meeting in 2006 from the Town of Tuftonboro: "At approximately 9:05 Selectmen met with Claude Roessiger. Mr. Roessiger said that he had an issue with the speed limit on Ledge Hill Road, which he thought was too low. The posted limit is 35 but he says that most people do much more than the limit. Mr. Roessiger then produced a speeding ticket for going 50 MPH and wanted to know what the Selectmen were going to do about it. He also had an issue with the Police Officer calling him by his first name and requested that the police officers address people by their family name not by their first name. Chairman Albee told Mr. Roessiger that there was nothing the Selectmen could do about the ticket and that he should address his concerns to the Police Chief. Chief Shagoury advised that all town roads are posted at 35 MPH or in some cases lower." I guess Old Claude feels qualified to tell Police Officers and Selectmen how to do their jobs, especially when it's his ass on the can.

The suit has been revoked. He realized his stupidity. Don't hurt the Americans, veterans, etc... working at PAK 2000 by hounding PAK 2000's customers - you're stooping to his level.

Unless Jim knows something directly from Claude, he is not correct. I called the Wolfeboro Town Manager at 4:20, and he had not heard this. I was at the Carroll County Courthouse at 1PM today, and have all docs filed in my possession. There is nothing saying that it has been withdrawn. This guy has lots of dough tied up in the preparation of this. Methinks Jim simply seeks to derail the bandwagon rolling against Mr. Claude.

I just spoke with Carroll County Superior Court Clerk Patricia Lenz. "To my knowledge, it has not been withdrawn, unless something has come in by mail." Therefore the story stands. Of course, given the fact Mr. Roessiger prefers mail to actually showing up publicly, perhaps it's "in the mail" as they say.

This is what I sent Mr. Claude: This is for Claude. I have read about your lawsuit regarding the use of the US flags in your town, much less in our country. I wonder do you really understand why you have the RIGHT to file that lawsuit. It is because of people and families like mine that have fought and won the freedoms that you are abusing with your comments and legal stances. Let me give you a snapshot of the military history of my family: Let’s go back several generations: One Grandfather served in the Navy and another Grandfather was in the Marines. My Godfather was in the Navy, My stepfather who served in the Navy My father served in the Air Force, my brothers father who served in the Air Force, My uncle served a career in the Navy, 2 of my brothers that served in the Navy, one retired and served in the Reserves, I served in the Army and to round it all out I have a nephew that is in the Marines and most importantly my daughter is serving this great country in the Navy. It is for the millions of men and women that have served and many are currently fighting for the freedoms that you sir currently are using for your own means. It is because we have fought for your freedoms that you are allowed to file this lawsuit. Why you feel you have the right to say what you do is beyond me. My daughter is currently fighting for YOU sir. She stands in the gap left by you for you as do all of the men and women in the service. It is because it is hard for people like you to live with the reality that Freedom is NOT free – a price is paid by others. Yes you may pay your taxes but freedom sir in not paid for by money it is paid for by the blood of our sons and daughters, fathers and mothers, and sisters and brothers, friends and other family members. What sickens me is if this attack on the military family actually ends up benefiting you by promoting your business that is truly sad that you would actually do this as a way to draw attention to yourself. I have a American Flag at my home and at my work not only do I have the flag but also a photo of the flag draped on our Pentagon from the attacks on our country 9-11-01. I still feel that we should show footage of the attacks on our country so that people like you remember that FREEDOM is definitely paid by blood, sweat and tears. If I hear one more story about my kids daughters uncle's whoever fighting in the war - how dare you, blah blah blah........you're missing the point of the entire issue. nevermind that it has been withdrawn - read the granite state news, he wasn't against the US or the warfighters or our flag. why can't you people figure that out? it seems like people have a need to get emotional over nothing.

If this lawsuit continues, I suggest that that every American within 150 miles of Wolfboro, New Hampshire meet there on june 14th (Flag Day) and stand outside Pak2000's building with their flag. I am 123 miles from there in Southern MA. Anyone wanting to carpool with me contact ron8000v@gmail.

Anonymous needs to follow the other links and read the rest of the material. The lawsuit material clearly raises the point that he IS against the flag, and the "warfighters", as he cited from the minutes the REASON for the flags in the first place. He also mentions repeatedly in his correspondence that the flags must be removed due to it being an election year. While the suit might deal with the denial of his wanting to place placards under the flags, his goal is the removal of the flags. Part C of Mr. Roessiger's prayed for remedy from the Court asks the Court to "Declare that the town has violated RSA 231:160 and RSA 236:75 by permitting a private citizen to display on its utility poles American flags 'for support of our troops' and issue preliminary and permanent injunctive relief requiring the town to remove the flags..." Don't read the Granite News, read Mr. Roessiger's attorney's own words. They can spin it as they like, but his own words reveal the truth. It's peppered all through his own 27 page legal filing.

Huh? How does one even find the Granite News? And is the story out yet? I prefer source material, which is what went into the two subsequent posts here. As far as "the life of this blog" not continuing, again I say, "Huh?" We are in our third year and this story isn't the only one we're covering, although a juicy tale of lunacy like that of Mr. Roessiger doesn't come along every day. I'm sure the fallout will, however, last for months. And rightfully so, for him starting the whole sorry affair in the first place! :-)

It is NOT enough. I agree with not endangering the jobs of the employees of Pak 2000. Perhaps Mr. Roessiger should apologize to all Americans while he is standing in front of the local VFW holding a huge American flag --- what a target for a pie in the face (and make it apple).

To quote your own words and to answer them, you and every other American SHOULD hear every single story about every single serviceman or woman and what their sacrifices were. Have you ever served in the military? If not, why not? and if not, then SHUT UP! You have not earned the right to make ANY comment about anyone in the military or the families, just as those who never vote have NO RIGHT to say anything against our elected officials. You, and people like you, are what has become wrong with this country. Too lazy or unconcerned to actually do anything constructive, but the first to open your mouth and give your ridiculous opinion. You WILL hear another story, if you have guts enough to read it, about my son, Army Sgt. Michael D. Rowe, who gave his life for his country on March 28, 2006, leaving behind his wife and unborn baby girl. Google his name and see the articles and news stories written about him, and then imagine a mother's pain when she has to face the most devestating and greatest loss of all - a child. Read about what a special person he was and imagine what he could have accomplished if he had not chosen to give his life for his country, and for people like you so that you can say what you like. War itself is an atrocity but until we evolve enough as human beings able to accept everyone despite their differences and love everyone, then war will be the inevitable direction that we will take to right the wrongs commited in this world. My son gave his life because he believed in God, his country and his duty to his fellow man, be they white, black, Christian or Atheist. The world needs more people like my son and the rest of the brave men and women who give their lives to help others. Part of me died the day the soldiers came and knocked on my door. I will never be the same, love the same, or live the same. I know what all the other families who have lost loved ones are going through, and unless you have experienced it don't you dare minimize it as you did by your callous and cruel words. You don't want to read stories like that, then don't but please keep your uneducated opinions to yourself. And if you think that I am "getting emotional over nothing" then you are a bigger ass then your words portray you to be.

To the Mother's on this blog who have lost their beloved children go all my heartfelt compassion and boundless gratitude for the sacrifices made. Your children paid the highest price that Liberty extracts. I hope that there continues to be a majority of Americans that honor and worship the price that has been paid. In Claude Roessiger's case, a cold cynical streak of self-appointed superiority has gripped his soul and rendered his value and worth as a human being moot. If it is true (as our Forefather's held certain beliefs to be self-evident) that there are friend's, family and Countrymen worth dying for...then it must also be true that there exist those who are completely and totally unworthy of the sacrifice our loved ones make when giving their lives for our Liberty. Claude Roessiger is such a sad, feckless soul. He is steeped in the trappings of wealth and power that only America's free markets and individual liberty could produce, while judging a fight against Terrorists who would kill us en masse if given the opportunity to be nothing more than a political entanglement. There could be no more convoluted, perverse interpretation of the events since Sept. 11th, 2001 than that which Claude Roessiger has adopted. God save his soul because I certainly would not.
