A Personal Endorsement for Ron Paul

I live in New Hampshire.  I served as a US Army Field Artillery officer, own my own business, and started the Greater Nashua (NH) Tea Party.  I love my country and will be voting for Congressman Ron Paul in the New Hampshire Republican primary.

America is in deep trouble; fiscally, culturally, and constitutionally.  We took great strides in pulling our nation from the brink of collapse in the 2010 mid-term elections and, as we approach the Presidential election of 2012, are positioned to take the next great step, denying Barack Obama a second dangerous term.

When the primary process started, I took a quick look at the candidates.  Of course, I wanted to choose the most conservative candidate who could win.  Each candidate had a number of positives, and many of them were preaching messages I wanted to hear – smaller, less intrusive Federal government, fiscal sanity, and a return to a culture of personal accountability and individual responsibility.  Which of these candidates, I wondered, really meant what they were saying?  Which one actually had the desire and fortitude to rebuild the economic and personal liberties we have given up over the past fifty years, at the hands of both political parties?

ConservationNH And Their “Tree-huggin” Hippy Crap

The NH Union Leader’s Ted Seifert featured a story about ConservationNH.org and their inaugural release of the, “Dirty Dozen” list of bills currently before the legislature.  According to filings with the Secretary of State, this group began in 2009 and its board is comprised of individuals listing affiliations and accomplishments more warmly welcoming in the left-wing political arena. That is an important distinction to make because they have RINO’s Rick Russman and Liz Hager on their team.

When readers go to the website, ConservationNH.org, the information is incomplete. There are no links to actual bills, titles or analysis other than what ConservationNH.org has to say about it. Lets look at their list:

Why the Iowa Caucus Results Should Matter

The tired cliche heard around the world rang hollow just days before the Iowa Caucus.  Jon Huntsman, desperate for attention, for the second time said, “Iowa picks corn, but New Hampshire picks Presidents.”  Pretty desperate, but he is three-fourths right.  I have to agree that Iowa does pick corn (and soybeans).  I will also acknowledge New Hampshire’s prominent role in presidential nomination politics.  You play a very key role!  All one has to do is ask John McCain how important New Hampshire is.  Ask Bob Dole, George W. Bush, and now Rick Santorum how important the Iowa Caucus is and they would likely say – extremely.

I want to share with you three reasons why I believe Tuesday’s Iowa Caucus results should matter to those planning on voting in next Tuesday’s New Hampshire Primary:

Skip – while I enjoy the cartoons, I think today’s cartoon misses the mark:  we have a Congress and Republican mindset that refuses to vote on appointments.   Its really too bad the President can’t fire Congress for failing to work.  On the plus side – at least when they’re on recess they’re not spending money 🙂

I really like this guy – have worked with him, collaborated with him, and have known him for years.  But this, I needed to respond to:

Two days before NH’s First in the Nation Primary, here’s why I think the Iowa Caucus matters

I totally forgot to post this – my guest post scribblings that Shane requested and posted over at Caffeinated Thoughts on why I thought that the Iowa Caucus mattered here in NH right after it was over.  I will tell you, based on the Press reaction last night to Rick Santorum (uploading the video now, will post shortly), Iowa’s results do matter here in NH:

Well, we’ve now been through the warm up where the players assembled, a few that were desired by the fans declined to come out and play, and some of the would be players stayed home when the prelim lineup matchups didn’t play out as they wanted. We saw a wide range of nuances within a fairly narrow band stances which brought in either hoots or jeers from the stands with some flag waving, some huzzahs, and not a few raspberries thrown about. A couple more left after the general shoot around before the the Big Show started; a few of the lessors kept circling the court waiting to be asked to play (but never got the nod – and one finally went to another game).

Tuesday night, the opening buzzer to that Big Show sounded and it was a dash to the hoop – politicians looking to score big. Layups, gimmes, hooks, jump shots and three pointers. And yes, a couple of players got stuffed as they went for what they thought would have been a slam dunk on their home court. And like what happens in hockey, a game broke out during the fight. And when it was over, two winners, a tie, and a couple also rans. And one self-ejection.

Welcome To New Hampshire…Now Go Home

As New Hampshire plays it’s traditional “First In The Nation Primary” role for the  next few days, I am reminded of two things.  First, as the Live Free or Die state, no matter who ends up as either the GOP nominee or the next president, we’ll still have to act like the sovereign Republic that we are and repel the borders from progressives and big government, both inside and out, for years to come.   Second, there is what has to be my favorite New Hampshire bumper sticker; “Welcome to New Hampshire, Now Go home.” To which I would add,” unless you’d like to just move here.”

There are conditions for moving here, of course.  We consistently have some of the lowest poverty, lowest crime, and the best standard of living for a reason.  And as people speculate about our reasonably low unemployment as well, let me point out that these things are all related.   It is the secret ingredient.  It is what makes all the great things about New Hampshire possible.  The answer;  reduce the incentive for bad behavior.

If you don’t pay people a livable wage to remain unemployed, for some strange reason progressives cannot grasp, those people go find a job.  And believe it or not, this works everywhere it is tried.

From a 1-5-12 letter to the Editor of The Wall Street Journal, by Glen Risley out of Houston: Republicans “should oersistently point out that the redistribution of wealth at the direction of public policy is a poison that has permeated our society and mortgaged our future.” Spot-on.

Facebook doodles – Why must we bow to the Precautionary Principle like Euro-weenies?

Back in April when speed limits on Lake Winnipesaukee (approx. 21 miles long, from 1 to 9 miles  wide , covering 69 square mile and a  maximum depth of 212 feet) were being debated, one intrepid lawmaker asked for comments on Facebook as she was being inundated by emails and decided to see what her friends said.  Of course, there was one complaint that was truly obnoxious in the vein of “if not human powered, make it illegal” (right, look at the size of it!).

The lake needs a break! The smell of gas is obnoxious when you go swimming. Wasn’t that way 10 years ago! You can’t cross the Lake in a canoe and feel safe. Too many idiots! safety is a huge issue! It’s time to do something to protect those who come to enjoy the lake!

Another concerned themselves with “what if a slow boat comes in contact with a fast boat” and that implied that the fast boats necessarily meant that all other tourists would bail.  While I did talk about the actual accident records (which show that speed is a minor contributor to accidents on the Big Lake when compared to bad or drunken driving, failure to obey the present laws, and the like), that simply was not enough.  Making it on the facts turned out to be a loser – this argument was based on “Feelings, nothing more than Feelings….”.

So I addressed the underlying use of THE PRECAUTIONARY PRINCIPLE – which effectively says “unless YOU can prove it is safe, we’re gonna ban it if we think there is a slightest risk of harm at all”.

Gun Bills? Lynch Fights With Risky Behavior

The Union Leader’s Gary Raymo reports  how two New Hampshire State Police troopers demonstrated how quickly a semiautomatic rifle can go from unloaded to loaded during a press conference at the Statehouse. That is all that is said.  On the face of it, the reader is left to deduce what the troopers did to demonstrate the point.

Here is this press conference on Tuesday. A whole bunch of people…citizens, lawmakers, other cops, press and who knows who else are concentrated in this room for a press conference to hear Flynch and his lackies decry gun bills. Now, we add a couple of State Troopers with fully loaded firearms to the mix. Then each Trooper, caught in the governor’s gamesmanship and bidding, chambers a round on a semi-automatic rifle, placing it fully in battery (technical term meaning ready to fire) whilst standing amongst a crowd. Interesting concept.

Even people with the minimum of education and brains understand basic safety concepts. NONE of my firearms are EVER loaded with live rounds ANYWHERE with only a few exceptions. First, In my home I have loaded shotguns and handguns for personal defense…welcome to Manchester…break in elsewhere. Second, is the sidearm that I carry on my person. That gun never gets unholstered except for specific need… i.e. self-defense. Third, at the range with muzzle pointed in a safe direction.  It is perfectly lawful to have a loaded handgun in my vehicle because I have obtained a N.H. Pistol Revolver license.

Well, I guess that the heat got turned up real hot!  Remember Town Administrator Scott Dunn’s response to me when I asked him to apologize to the citizen who he maligned in a Letter to the Editor (and my complaint to the Selectman Kevin Hayes here)

The Shrill Kathy on Political Weirdness

Kathy SullivanI told my friend Steve Vaillancourt it might be a New Year’s Resolution to simply ignore her. But in ignoring her, I think a final analysis is in order.

For all of the useless Pablum The Shrill Kathy has written, she is never lost on attacking anybody with a “R” attached to their name. The Shrill Kathy never criticizes the asinine or silly policies of her liberal friends. The Shrill Kathy never details anything positive coming from the Democratic Party as a juxtaposition to conservatives or Republicans.

The Shrill Kathy quips,

I also hope that 2012 is a year in which common sense, and not ideology, return to center stage, both in New Hampshire and the country as a whole. That is the only statement arguing for common sense in the whole rant.

When Mitt Romney came to New Hampshire in June and announced his candidacy, One of the first visceral reactions I had was that Mitt could not win against Obummer. Not for all the conventions and opinings currently swirling about, but for the simple facial evaluation that the man in not honest. He is too phony, fake and disingenuous. His Flip flops are well-documented in the 2008 campaign by the very moderate-RINO that endorsed him…John McCain.
