How else will Obama ignore the Constitution?

Yeah, replacing it with “himself” would be one way

Update: A friend of mine from Ohio sent me this email:

Skip – while I enjoy the cartoons, I think today’s cartoon misses the mark:  we have a Congress and Republican mindset that refuses to vote on appointments.   Its really too bad the President can’t fire Congress for failing to work.  On the plus side – at least when they’re on recess they’re not spending money 🙂

I really like this guy – have worked with him, collaborated with him, and have known him for years.  But this, I needed to respond to:

>> Its really too bad the President can’t fire Congress for failing to work

Think about it – this really is a feature and not a bug.  A DELIBERATE feature!

No, it is a failure of the President, of either Party, when they do not follow the clear text of the Constitution.  The problem is, they are NOT on recess – regardless of what Obama says (or wants you to think).  He has NO power, under the Constitution, to determine if Congress (either component) is on recess or not.  That declaration (or power, if you would) solely rests with each branch of government.

Trust me, I would be saying this if a Republican was trying to do this.  What our education system has failed to do is

to properly ingrain what our Constitution actually says and means with regards to separation of powers – and our populace has become too shallow, because of our education system, to understand when our Political Class tries to pull a fast one.

The Founders DELIBERATELY created a system by which it is SUPPOSED to be hard to get things done if the idea presented is not acceptable to a majority of elected officials.  What is so dangerous about this situation is that the Rule of Law, THE foundational principle of our Republic, is being flayed.  I look at this akin to FDR trying to pack the Supreme Court back in the day when he couldn’t get the Court to stop declaring his legislation unconstitutional – that was his attempt to go “banana republic”.

This is Obama’s attempt to do the same.  Worse, it is yet another push for the Progressive end game – the Administrative State by which there is no limit what the Govt can do in order to “guide us” in being better people.

Democracy?  Freedom to Choose?  Not so much.  Remember what this bureau is – unaccountable, outside of Congressional oversight, and self-funding.  This is what we want our Government to be that has the ability to make arbitrary rules over a large swath of our financial system?  Remember – the more that Government decrees how things are to run in this area, the less economic freedom you and I have.
