It was Democrat NH State Rep Jan Schmidt who declared that “All murders are not the same“. But this from Elizabeth Banks takes the Irony Cake.
Stand Your Ground
John Kasich’s Gun Rights Veto Overridden by Ohio Legislature
On Christmas Eve we reported on Governor John Kasich’s veto of some bills including “gun-rights” legislation. Kasich was emphatic in his rejection. “If you think I’m going to sign a bill that gives more power to the gun folks, are you kidding me?” The State Legislature wasn’t kidding when they sent it to his desk. So … Read more
The Stalinist Idea Behind HB135 – The Effort to Repeal Stand Your Ground
I pulled this opening line from a very interesting article by Steven Hayward at Powerline because it reminds us where the lefts hatred for the right of self defense actually comes from, even if they themselves do not know it.
If memory serves, Irving Kristol once remarked that the term “peace,” as it was used by the left, “is a Stalinist concept,” since the intent of the so-called “peace movement” was the unilateral disarmament of the West and the triumph of Communism.
On the big stage Mr. Obama is doing a fine job of advancing that very-communist goal of undermining the US military from within but it occurred to me that the same ideological inheritance that encourages the Obama administration’s effort to put the US military into therapy is equally rich with a “peace movement” mentality which the average street-level apparatchik deploys (at the direction of their professional left-wing betters) against the second amendment.

Real life NH Example of why HB135 (repeal of Stand Your Ground) is a bad idea
From Pro-Gun NH, an example of someone who would be in jail if it wasn’t for the passage of the “Stand Your Ground” law simply for trying to protect his family member in a public space. I keep hearing that we are “not to worry – this is not a problem in NH” with the underlying whisper message of “not to worry – NH prosecutors WILL do the right thing”. Then we here in NH saw what happened to Ward Bird with “a willing liberal prosecutor, Robin Gordon“. And now, a second time (emphasis mine, reformatted):
After two days of trial and jury deliberation in Hillsborough County Superior Court South, a verdict of not guilty was rendered in the case of State v Craig Moses. The attorney for Mr. Moses was Evan Nappen….who is also the General Counsel and one of the five Directors of Pro-Gun New Hampshire. Mr. Moses had defended himself and his cousin, who was knocked unconscious and was lying in a pool of blood after having been brutally punched and kicked in the head. The attack on Mr. Moses and his cousin occurred early in the morning of May 5, 2012 outside a Nashua nightclub called “The Junk Yard.”
Upon exiting the nightclub, Mr. Moses was sucker-punched in the chest, breaking two ribs; he was also punched in the nose, and was dazed from a head injury. While trying to get away from his attackers, he saw his cousin also being brutally assaulted, receiving multiple punches and kicks to the head that left him unconscious on the asphalt as the beating continued. When Mr. Moses reached the vehicle he immediately went to retrieve his lawfully-possessed .380 handgun, which he had kept in the locked vehicle, and for which he had a License to Carry.
In order to create a zone of safety around his fallen cousin…
HB 135: State v. Craig Moses
“In a state where corruption abounds, laws must be very numerous.” —Tacitus
Liberals love to ignore inconvenient facts. Stick fingers in ears, close eyes and yell, “La-la-la-la-la!” Franklin resident Craig Moses was acquitted under the Granite State’s “Stand Your Ground” law. Moses was arrested nearly a year ago in Nashua outside a nighclub and charged with criminal threatening with a deadly weapon after he and his cousin were severely beaten.
“Citizens With Guns:” Better Trained Than Police? Really?
“Don’t tell people how to do things, tell them what to do and let them surprise you with their results.” —George S. Patton
I was at the State Senate hearing yesterday on HB 135. I heard a great deal of testimony. Senator Carson asked people not to read their testimony, Zandra Rice-Hawkins, boringly read hers. Other such liberals gave us the same old boring crap.
Alton’s Police Chief Ryan Heath, speaking in favor of passage of HB 135, told the committee that the average person simply isn’t trained to make these on-the-spot decisions regarding use of deadly force. He asserted that Police have training in the handling of firearms, use of force and it is part of their jobs. And Chief Heath is correct. there is nothing incorrect about his statement. In fact, I had become so used to hearing it.
Something happened at that very moment. I received a text message question from an individual organizing a “training”

From this morning’s Concord fish wrap: “Assistant Attorney General Elizabeth Woodcock said people who legitimately act in self-defense usually don’t get charged with a crime, anyway. “I think you have to have some confidence in your law enforcement people, that they do do their level best to prosecute, the people who really deserve prosecution and … Read more
HB 135 Deputy Dawg Shurtleff ‘Stand Your Ground Repeal’ – NH State Senate Hearing is Tomorrow
c/o Scott Smith / Facebook
New Hampshire: Shurtleff Criminal Protection Bill Scheduled for Senate Committee Hearing in Concord on Tuesday
On Tuesday, April 23, the Senate Judiciary Committee is scheduled to hear House Bill 135. Introduced by state Representative Stephen Shurtleff (D- Merrimack 11), HB 135 will render law-abiding citizens defenseless victims by removing consequences for criminal activity. The New Hampshire House of Representatives already undermined your inherent right to self-defense by passing the Shurtleff Criminal Protection Bill by a 189-184 vote on March 27.
HB 135 would repeal important self-defense provisions enacted in 2011, making the following changes to New Hampshire’s current self-defense laws:
A Message to the Ayotte “I told You So” Crowd
Many of us objected to Senator Ayotte’s vote to break a filibuster on gun control. Now that the measure is dead in the Senate, and Senator Ayotte voted to kill it, and Obama is mad as hell, the folks who thought we were overreacting, are all “well SEE!?” To these folks I submit the following: … Read more
House Bill 135: Representative Jan Schmidt Thinks People Don’t Understand
“It takes a lot of things to prove you are smart, but only one thing to prove you are ignorant.” —Don Herold
On Wednesday, March 27 Representative Janice Schmidt (D) Hillsborough 27 – Nashua took to the Londonderry Patch with her local voices entry entitled, HB 135: I Don’t Think It Means What You Think It Means. Representative Schmidt begins her entry with a supposed letter from a person who is concerned about the lack of ability to defends ones’ self within ones home…
Life Imitates Democrat legislation
I was just reading Scott’s post about the chickens of modern day feminism coming home to roost and it occurred to me; the video of the young man that dodged the ball that then modified the face of his date is a perfect example of how the left wants us all to behave.
I’ll call this “Life imitates Democrat legislation.” Do tell?
A Majority of New Hampshire House Democrats and (three Republicans), just voted to ensconce into state statute the very thing that this young man just did by voting to repeal stand your ground. If you can retreat…do so. He did. She took it right in the face.
The progressives don’t want you to take responsibility. They do not want you to exercise your judgment. You are not allowed to think. Run away! Someone from the government will get there just as soon as they can.
Shurtleff Defends Stand Your Ground Repeal In The Union Leader
“There is hardly any mental misery worse than that of having our own serious phrases, our own rooted beliefs, caricatured by a charlatan or a hireling.” —George Eliot
Last Monday, Steve Shurtleff wrote an op-ed in advocacy for his bill to repeal stand your ground. He tells several lies, makes completely inaccurate statements and could not cite one case where the law was used by a criminal to avoid prosecution. Shurtleff writes,
“For more than three decades, New Hampshire law permitted the use of deadly force in
NH House Vote To Repeal Stand Your Ground (HB 135) is Today
Update [-Skip]: The NH House just voted to pass HB135 which means that you must flee from danger instead of asserting your Right to Self-Defense. From the House Republican Alliance:
“We are saddened but not surprised by the passage of HB135, which removes a person’s right to defend oneself. The passage of this politically motivated bill strips away the rights of citizens to stand their ground and protect themselves, others and their property if threatened where ever they have a right to be,” stated Representative Al Baldasaro, HRA co-chair. “Every citizen has a constitutional right to defend themselves and this blatant attempt at political correctness is a disservice to our constituents.”

We’ve pretty much chopped down a digital forest discussing HB 135, the effort to solve a non-problem in pursuit of an ideological fear-campaign with no evidence to support it. So much so that I can’t begin to find all of the articles and posts. But here is a “short” list of content we’ve put out in the last two months on the bill, the idea, and the moonbat behind it all. If you feel the need to find more just search HB135 (without a space between HB and 135), or search ‘Shurtleff’ or ‘Stephen Shurtleff,’ or even ‘Deputy Dawg.’
