“Government has to protect us from our own stupidity”

From June OK, I have no idea how I got on NH Insider blogger (and NH House Rep ) Steve Vaillencourt’s email list, but I have.  Mostly I read (even briefly) and sometimes I just delete (don’t be offended as I sometimes have to do it to LOTS of incoming email – I barely keep … Read more

WMUR’s Closeup – Maggie Hassan on 10/30 edition

Yet another post that kinda got away from me – I forgot about it (D’oh!) and with everyone writing at full steam, the posts (like emails in my Inbox) keep moving further and further down the list.  Face it, if an email goes three or four “page downs”, it pretty much is gone from sight and gone from memory (even as I say “Skip, DON’T forget this one!”).  Anyways, these are the notes I took as Maggie Hassan talked with Closeup host, Josh McElven, about a number of topics:

  • Voter ID is a very extreme bill and harm the citizens of NH

Extreme? Very Extreme?   I keep hearing that from the Democrats and about the only thing I can think of that is “extreme” is that Democrats think it an extreme idea that Republicans don’t like the idea that Democrats keep getting votes that really should never have been cast by people who should not have been voting at that polling place.  Perhaps, the real extreme idea is that  the Democrats just don’t think enough of Citizenship and don’t think that ensuring that the validity and integrity of a Citizen’s vote is worth protecting.  We seem to be in a time when the value of Citizenship is deliberately being diminished (e.g., the mayor that wants to let people votethat should not be in the country).  This is not about “discrimination” – this is to hold a fundamental right and responsibility of citizenship high and to maintain its integrity.

  • The State Budget that cut the cigarette tax also cut the University and the College budget significantly.  That says to the young people in this state, smoke more and go to college less….and to employers, don’t bother to come because we aren’t going to have an educated workforce.

Ah yes, just like Alan Greyson’s “Republicans just want you to die quickly” when it comes to healthcare. Is this the best that a future Governor (Lord, forgive me!) can say about the opposition?

#Occupy Policy Goal = 35 Years in Jail?

Redistributing the wealth, and blaming banks at the same time, must be sending a mixed message to “American’s” who are committed to redistributing the wealth.  Take James Karahalios for example.  He ‘liberated’ wealth from several banks, motels, and greedy business owners, and what did he get for it?  Thirty-five years in prison for armed robbery. … Read more

Difference between free market vs command-and-control economy could not be starker; why do environmentalists wish to turn us into the latter?

The big international news of the day is the death of North Korea’s despot, Kim Jong Ill (yes, the obligatory “no longer ill,  just dead”).  The Communist regime that has controlled the country since the ’40s with its Stalinist command and control can easily be seen from space at night as the image to the … Read more

#OccupyKepler22-b

The big news in science is the discovery of a ‘Goldilocks’ planet orbiting an Earth-like sun at a distance referred to as the ‘habitable zone.’ This is great news. The party of ‘Science’ should build a ship and occupy it as soon as possible. No need to wait for conclusive evidence of habitability. I mean, … Read more

“We don’t want to have to spend this much energy and attention to your job.”

The above quote is from a post over at The Corner of NJ Governor Chris Christie.  Very much in line with what Gov. Rick Perry of Texas has said:

“My goal is to make Washington as inconsequential to your daily life as possible.

People DON’T want to think about politics all the time.  For most people, it is a waste of time as they deal with their jobs, their spouses.  They have reality based lives to lead, actual families to take care of, jobs to perform in.  Hobbies, past times, and causes other than politics to care about and in which to get involved.

Problem is, Progressives are convinced that it IS their job to hijack (word specifically chosen) Government so as to then be able to “shape” our lives so that “we will be better”.

The Obligatory “Hey, Barney Frank will soon be gone!” post

I first saw the news at Hot Air ("Exit stage left"): Rep. Barney Frank (D-MA) will announce later today that he will not run for re-election. So, we see yet another example of a politician not being held accountable for what he (or she) has wrought.  Bahnee Fwank will take his decades of service (and … Read more

DCCC Annual “Ruin Thanksgiving” Cheat Sheet

Every Thanksgiving we can now expect the Democrat Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) to do to your holiday what it has done to everything else it touches–ruin it. This year is no different.  They have once again equipped your obnoxious left-leaning relatives and friends with their very own palm-card.

The DCCC ‘cheat sheet,’ is a recurring feature (not unlike Irritated Bowel Syndrome) whose name the Free Republic correctly identified in 2009 as eponymous to the Party that produces it.  2012 is no exception.  This years Cheat is filled with cherry picked, out of context, tin-foil hat foolishness, spun and slanted as it strives to fulfill the maxim, the bigger the lie the more likely it is toTurkey be believed.  (If Yves Goyut was alive we could add these to his collection of Socialist Fallacies.)

Unfortunately for the progressives we are no longer forced to listen to their media narratives and the Cheat sheet only serves to clarify who not to invite to next years feast.

So without further ado, here it is. The Annual DCCC Turkey.

Wait!  Same warning as last year.  Make sure you are not drinking anything while you read it.  You may start laughing and we don’t want to detour any beverages through your nasal cavities.  Eggnog comes to mind.  Not pretty.  Kind of like the 2012 DCCC Cheat Sheet.

By the way, the cheat sheet starts with some Democrat Majority ‘accomplishments" none of which include producing a budget (which Democrats have continued to obstruct for over three years now).

Prepare For The Barakaclypse

Every one of these was or is a left wing campaign to make leftist dogma look like centrist mantra. They exist to streamline progressive/socialsit thought into mainstream thinking. But they failed and so the latter iterations have become more destructive. Each “movement” has gotten progressively more unruly, progressively more violent.

A working definition of “social contract” for the rest of us

As seen on Instapundit: “The social contract exists so that everyone doesn’t have to squat in the dust holding a spear to protect his woman and his meat all day every day. It does not exist so that the government can take your spear, your meat, and your woman because it knows better what to … Read more

Is The NH Dem Petition Against Baldasaro A Fraud?

If you missed it, a State party Democrat (David Robinson), speaking for a left wing Veterans group (VoteVets.org) is part and parcel to an effort by the New Hampshire Democrat Party to petition House Speaker O’Brien to remove Republican Al Baldasaro as Chairman of the House Veterans Affairs Committee. None of the reporting to date, other than here at GraniteGrok, has identified the group or Robinson as Democrat-backed or connected. But there’s news about the petition they plan to give to O’Brien.

If you go to Change.org, you can see the petition set up by the New Hampshire Democrat Party, but the list of signatories is not accessible just by visiting the petition page. One thing we do know however is that of the ten names we can see, seven of them are from out of state.

DOES THE GOVERNMENT HAVE YOU UNDER SURVEILLANCE?

“We are rapidly entering the age of no privacy, where everyone is open to surveillance at all times; where there are no secrets from government.” Justice William O Douglas

DHHS_WATCHFUL_EYES_GROK.jpg

Perhaps some will read this and the knee-jerk reaction might be, “Oh, there goes one of those tin-foil-lined hat rants again…Like the government doesn’t have anything better to do than watch, “me.” Perhaps on some level, thinking of the government having citizens under surveillance harkens back to Soviet-style citizen oppression, much less being an inefficient and wasteful use of valuable resources.  This issue, however, focuses on the incidental happenstance of average citizens and the likelihood of being caught up in something few contemplate or even envision.

You’re watching the news and a story about bombs and explosives airs and part of the interview features some law enforcement mouthpiece claiming, “The bomb was constructed from instructions readily available on the internet…and materials bought at local hardware and home goods retailers…” You have never given thought about building a bomb, much less how to build one. So, being bored you grab your laptop and Google, “How to build a bomb” Sorting through the various hits the topic garners, you spend all of ten minutes searching and reading. All you really want to know is if the claims made have any credibility.

ONE Vote NH Censoring Facebook Comments?

ONE Campaing is a globalist shamMy Objection to the underlying agenda of the ONE Campaign should be well known.  ONE is part and parcel with the UN Millennium Goals (MDG) which use poverty (in the case of ONE Campaign) to milk western democracies in support of global governance and the entire UN MDG agenda.  (Ugly details here, and here)

Why bring it up?  Recent remarks were posted on the ONE Campaign New Hampshire Facebook page asking if their group was the same one that promoted global redistribution of wealth.  A follow-up comment indicated that this was correct.  Both were promptly "vanished."  Deleted from the page.  Kind of the way political opponents are ‘vanished’ in many of the countries struck by the kind of poverty ONE campaign claims to be fighting against.

No arguments to the contrary?  No debate.  No challenge to the assumption that ONE is party to global redistribution of wealth or is connected to the UN and its Millennium Development Goals agenda? An agenda that would deny the right to self defense, implement anti-American treaties and awful UN education policies (to name but a few)?  Just delete the comments and hope it goes away?

Oops.  That’s not going to happen.

Jeanne “Central Planner” Shaheen

Jeanne Shaheen The Central Planning MachineThe Union Leader has done us a service these past two days by exposing Governor Shaheen for who she is.   In back to back staff editorials we see that her priority is to filter money through the hands of distant bureaucrats rather than find ways to keep it in New Hampshire in the first place.

Her supporters will say, as they did with the earmarking debate, that we need these kinds of representatives "to get our money back from Washington."  But I have always said, would it not be better if we had representatives who just worked harder to keep it here?  Why must it leave in the first place?

It must leave so our former governor can brag on her press page about how she has helped bring money into the state for this or that.  And this or that is always from a list of benefactors and favorites of the political left.  And that is why she cannot leave the money in state where it belongs.

Inane Jane-ane Gar ‘awful’ oh

Janeane Garofalo should have her own breakfast cereal.   It would have to come in a small, narrow box.  We’d call it Gar ‘Awful" Oh’s, and it would come with the bitter taste of guilt.  Left wing guilt.  Guilt that makes you say and do incredibly stupid things.  Because that is who and what Gar-awful-oh is, the poster child of this inanity about racism.

People like Karl Rove liked to keep the racism very covert. And so Herman Cain provides this great opportunity say you can say ‘Look, this is not a racist, anti-immigrant, anti-female, anti-gay movement. Look we have a black man.

Collective nonsense…

It is clear one of the reasons why it seems that politics is so disjoint the last few years – we have two totally opposite philosophies of governance and the role of the individual vs the collective in them.  It should be rather obvious that we at the ‘Grok hold that it is, like the Founders original vision, that government was to protect the Rights, Liberty, and Freedom of the Individual.  Progressives, stemming from their Socialist roots, hold that the collective should always hold sway when talking about individuals.

Certainly, Elizabeth Warren (formerly running Obama’s "Consumer Financial Protection Agency" and now trying to oust Senator Scott Brown (R-MA)) shows her disdain for the successful individual in my post of yesterday.  Cheering for an individual who has "made it", or nodding in success that someone has achieved the American Dream?  Not so much – in the video, this pointy headed Hahvad over-bearing Progressive Professor shows the disdain she has for American capitalism and the spirit succeed.  Hold up that entrepreneur as an example to follow?  Not so much.  In her mind, one to tear down, for the lack of a better work, for the lack of gratitude to society for their success.

Well, she’s been hailed as a savior on the Left. The Right has a better response:

JOHN LYNCH: A STEADY LEADER…WHEN?

“Without initiative, leaders are simply workers in leadership positions.” Bo Bennett

Shrill_Kathy_Chronicals_Grok.jpg

In a letter to French Scientist Jean-Baptiste Le Roy in November of 1789, Benjamin Franklin quipped those ever long-enduring and famous words, “[B]ut in this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes … ” It would appear Franklin had not contemplated the certainty of blow-hard political hacks and self-aggrandizing opportunists.

Upon Seeing the Union Leader Headline Tuesday, “Gov. Lynch will leave office very popular, and for good reason“, and who the author was,  predictable is the litany and diatribe that follows. And, with the whole and complete certainty of death and taxes, the “Shrill Kathy” hath delivered. In the 779-word bloviation, the “Shrill Kathy” delivered a mere 199 words extolling Lynch’s virtues and reserved the remaining 580 words for her usual and expected attack on Republicans, checkered with a contrast and comparison-like tone…Make no mistake about it…Lynch’s announcement, as with most other political events, is a mere pretext for her visera.

You Owe US! You’ll never be anything without US!

This is why I hate that phrase "give back".  Commonly used to indicate doing something to benefit a community, it translates to be like an entitlement by and to society.  An obligation, as in "what are YOU doing to ‘give back’?".  After all, you owe us.  Yet, I thought we were a "free people"!

Not according to Elizabeth Warren!  She was supposed to be ‘Bam’s head selected head of the new Consumer Financial Protection Agency (you know those Progressives, have to protect "their children" who can’t make their way in the world; here, take Daddy Govt’s hand). In the FRONT of her Progressive / Socialist mind lives that normally "back of the head" sense of obligation to society, and that on steroids.  No, it is not that you HAVE to "give back" at some point but that Society gets to TAKE back  and that extends to any credit for your success – and she gets shrill about it (added emphasis by me):

Below is a transcript of Warren’s remarks:

“I hear all this, you know, ‘Well, this is class warfare, this is whatever. No. There is nobody in this country who got rich on his own — nobody.

“You built a factory out there? Good for you. But I want to be clear. You moved your goods to market on the roads the rest of us paid for. You hired workers the rest of us paid to educate. You were safe in your factory because of police-forces and fire-forces that the rest of us paid for. You didn’t have to worry that marauding bands would come and seize everything at your factory — and hire someone to protect against this — because of the work the rest of us did.

“Now look, you built a factory and it turned into something terrific, or a great idea. God bless — keep a big hunk of it. But part of the underlying social contract is, you take a hunk of that and pay forward for the next kid who comes along.”

I’d Check with Ray or The SEA

Tactics are everything for Democrats, and nothing is beyond the pale.  Just think Project Gunrunner, in which a left-wing narrative about American guns in the hands of Mexican drug lords is brought to life by the Obama Administration when facts failed to support the desired conclusion.  So when I read this report this morning of racially tinged graffiti painted on several houses in Concord, I got suspicious.

Tim Buckland reports for the Union Leader…

Ngendahayo returned home from church Sunday to find the message, which called his family “subhuman” and told them to leave. The message, several lines long, was also found on the homes of other African immigrants living at another Perley Street house and at a home on Downing Street…

I’m sorry, but this is just tailor-made to be some left-wing scheme.
