“I did not run for this office just to get back to where we were. I ran for this office to get us to where we need to be.”

That was a line from one of Obama’s recent campaign speeches.  Now if you took it at face value, it sounds like what any politician would be.  Further, most Americans, steeped in the traditional values of Americana would do the “fill in the blank” – and this is exactly how that phrase was supposed to be taken.  But how come the Media never asks  “”and where is ‘where’?”

“I ran for this office to get us to where we need to be.”

What’s the context?  This:  “we are five days away from fundamentally transforming the United States of America.”  But we know where he is going – he’s told us.  “We Can’t Wait”…if Congress won’t act…his use of Executive Orders….his agencies and departments choosing to make rulings, regulations, and statutes that far exceed their authorizing legislation.  Add to that an almost complete regard to rulings of the court system. Obama rails on the outside, but with a smile on the inside.  You see, it is an inside job.  Added by Harry Reid and the other Progressive and Democrat Socialists in the Senate and the House, they are making Congress irrelevant (what is it, 1200 days since the Senate passed an operating budget?).   Government has grown larger, has inserted itself into almost every aspect of our lives because of the actions of past and present Democrats – and Republicans.  Under the guise of “helping” and “we have DO something!”, bit by bit,  Govt ended up doing more and more.

Expectations are being set.  If you know no different, then what is the loss?  We still are the Land of the Free, right?  Er….sigh….is the water boiling yet?

Carbonite CEO’s Real Problem is Not Rush Limbaugh It’s His Liberalism

Why did David Friend really pull his companies advertising from the Rush Limbaugh program?  We are meant to believe that it was because of what Limbaugh said about Sandra Fluke.  That the words ‘slut’ and ‘prostitute’ were discussion terms he was not interested in associating  with himself or his company.  But this is coming from a man who gives his own cash-money to groups like MoveOn.org, and a host of Democrat candidates.  People who denigrate women on an almost daily basis.  He wasn’t outraged at all,  and as it turns out, was merely ‘activated’ like some suicidal sleeper agent.

Recent reports have revealed that the entire ‘advertiser outrage’ was planned and orchestrated by Media Matters.  Carbonite yanking it’s advertising was just part of the show.

The Reality of Progressive Intimidation

What you should take away from the Rush Limbaugh fracas, other than that aside from the choice of words, he was right.

First, advertisers who initially abandoned Rush Limbaugh are afraid of the left.  They are afraid that the party of big government will come at them with all their resources to undermine whatever it is they do.  So they cannot be trusted to stand up for free markets or capitalism.  Plain and simple.  They will never defend freedom of speech or the right of association.

Just as it isn’t about getting free contraceptives – it’s about standing up for the Constitution.  Slutgate is the excuse for the Left’s faux outrage to pummel a single person – but that is the distraction the Left wants you to believe.  It is not about civility – the Left has spewed far more vile at far more women on the Right over far more years.  Why?  To insult and to intimidate those on the Right, to force us to think that it is time for us to dejectedly leave the field of political / philosophical battle on our own.  And then they win and then they have a clear road to continue to dismantle the Rights given to us by our Creator.  To Progressives, ‘inalienable Rights” are simply an alien idea that has to be put down – for they have no God but Bigger Government.  Freedom is what they would have us believe we get from men – in the political scene, they wish to believe  they have the right to act as gods to determine how we shall run our lives.

And we see them, via Media Matters (funded by George Soros) and Van Jone’s Color of Change working behind the scenes, trying to achieve the real goal – seeing their political opportunity to silence Rush Limbaugh.  Thus far, they (the tip of the spear of the Left, to give them their due) have convinced 22 advertisers to leave Rush Limbaugh.  They have orchestrated a massive turnout of emails and calls to those companies to “leave Rush, or we leave you”: 400,00 have signed a petition to get Rush yanked.

This has nothing to do with contraception everything to do with the governments role in mandating it.

Progressives only look across the scope of human history for propaganda.  They have no interest in the connection between yesterday, today, and certainly not tomorrow.  They are only concerned with the distance between what their spleen tells them today (grow government), and how to do that and still get through their next re-election.  Which is why, in responding to a comment to my post, Beggars CAN be Choosers, I made this point…(paraphrased)

If, during the arguments for Griswold v. Connecticut, you suggested that seeing a right to privacy in the constitution would just a few years later result in the legal practice of live birth abortion, people would have called you crazy.  And yet it happened.  Griswold begot Roe, Roe begot the abortion industry, which begot letting living breathing babies die at birth.  The right to privacy somehow resulted in legal murder.

Email Doodlings: HB437 – My take on repeal of gay marriage

On the same email thread that NH State Senator Ray White’s missive came from came this question:

Not sure why we’re wasting time and political capital on this issue, this year (an election year for God’s sake)…with an almost 100% certainty of a Lynch veto and failure to override…

At first blush, the intent behind the question was correct – the economic issues SHOULD be front forward.  I even started off with that thought….and then it hit me: why should we cede all the social issues to the Democrat / Progressives / Liberals?  To the Secular Humanists? Why should their morality become public law – why should their’s trump mine (which is far close if not, indeed, traditional American in outlook? The HHS insurance mandate now roiling America’s religious community is a great (and horrific) example of this – Progressives believing that Government has the legal right to so narrowly define what a church is that it can, out of whole cloth, strip their ministries from being “religious” ones to being secular by fiat decision.  And then force those newly re-classified secular (formerly religious) organizations to obey Governmental restrictions instead of being accountable to religious ones.

My answer (lightly edited, names redacted):

My take: I, too, would rather see more changes on the economic issues simply if not to allow Democrats to demagogue the “why aren’t you concentrating on jobs like you promised?” (even as Enterasys just moved 540 jobs into NH).

However, there is also the “walk and chew gum” at the same time argument.  Thus, I look at this from this perspective – the Republicans did not start the culture wars – the social engineering in recent years has been all Democrat based.  We need Republicans to point this out over and over and over and over again (and with better messaging than what has been done to date, I might add).

WHY would we, why SHOULD we, cede the culture war to the Progressives?  WHY should we just give up the social engineering side of the war?

“What if you are only allowed to vote because it doesn’t make a difference?”

Over at Townhall, Judge Napolitano penned a column that caught my eye:

What if you are only allowed to vote because it doesn’t make a difference? What if no matter how you vote, the elites get to have it their way? What if “one person, one vote” is just a fiction created by the government to induce your compliance?…

A charade, a farce, and the meaning of democracy is no more.  This country was built on the foundation of one man, one vote; that this one vote is precious and it should count for something.  Casting that vote is the culmination of  a sovereign citizen deciding how they will be governed by the elected and that includes guidance to the elected when voting on specific issues.  The problem here is that the “elected” (School Board) decided that the citizens don’t know what is best for them (or their families).  To start things off, watch Kurt Webber, Chair of the Gilford School Board, reaction to the call out of “arrogance” as a town resident takes him to task for ignoring the will of the voters:

Yes, Webber is not a happy camper and it is obvious that he is not too keen at being taken to task.  Yes, it is edited, but the context of the full video can be watched here at my blog, GilfordGrok (“all things Gilford”), Part 4, starting at about 5:20).  The event was a joint meeting of the Selectmen and School Board held to ‘listen to public input’ as each is having to deal with citizens having brought forward Petition Warrants that, if implemented, would place tax caps on their budgets.

Why?  What the Judge is talking about has happened in my hamlet – the resident is trying to get Webber to understand why people in town are upset with School Board.  The topic – full day kindergarten (the local communities in NH can make that decision for themselves) and why did the School Board decide to unilaterally implement it EVEN AS THE TOWN FOLK HAD PREVIOUSLY VOTED IT DOWN?  Sounds like  elitists telling the proles “we don’t care about your vote”.

Why should taxpayers be paying for more babies? Who really is the selfish one in all this? Enter stage Right – HB1658

Before getting into the quick discussion of NH HB1658 (“limiting financial assistance for mothers who have additional children while receiving Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF).”) that some Conservative has introduced, how ’bout this for a table setting?  This went viral back in December and while it was shocking to see a single women with 15 kids by 3 “baby daddies”, what was worse was the attitude display by her:

“Somebody needs to be held accountable, and they need to pay.”

(H/T: Weasel Zippers)  The Welfare State gone crazy?  No, it hasn’t.  What is shown here is the actual logical endgame of the Liberal philosophy that allows bad behavior to continue under the guise of “she needs help”. Yes, indeed she does – but not the type I think she requires (think: a humungous dose of traditional morality).  Yes, those children are in a bad situation – no doubt about that.  However in this case,  the Liberal philosophy that places personal sexual / libertine behavior off limits for discussion is shown for the fraud it really is – and the result is now clear that it places lots of children at risk.  Tell me, Libs – how is this result showing “we care more than Conservatives”? There are Progressives that hold the State should not become involved in the intimate life of that woman (except when it is a minor female child – then they have no problem involving Govt in abortions without Parental Notification), but here’s the rub – they have no problem in having the State pay for the consequences of that philosophy.

Except they also expect us all to just pay for the cost of their failed policy. And that is where NH HB1658 comes in.

Of the things said at Thursday’s Presidential debate, Rick Santorum said the most important:

Thursday night’s GOP Presidential Debate in Florida was, for the most part, a Mitt-Newt mud fight with their hands tied behind them (re: all they could do was just roll in it).  Lots of dirt to spread around.  However, Rick Santorum made the most of it, and I believe finally was able to lay in a few good licks, especially on ObaneyCare.

But as far as I am concerned, he uttered the most important words of the evening:

When an audience member asked the candidates how their religious beliefs would affect their decisions as President, Santorum turned to the nation’s founding documents to reference the relationship between faith and governance:

“The Constitution is there to do one thing, protect God-given rights,” said Santorum. “That’s what makes America different than every other country in the world.”

“When you say ‘faith has nothing to do with it’– faith has everything to do with it,” Santorum went on to say over applause. “If our President believes that rights come to us from the state, everything government gives you, it can take away.

“The role of the government is to protect rights that cannot be taken away.”

TEA Party and the Presidential Election – the view should be “and a cherry on top”

I just discovered that a reporter from the Dallas Morning News, with whom I had an phone interview last week, actually used a quote from me in his piece “Front-runner Romney hardly a tea party favorite“:

“Was the tea party movement, if we don’t nominate a conservative tea party candidate, much of a success?” said Skip Murphy, a tea party activist in New Hampshire. “My main goal is to beat Obama. If we stop the progressive administration and start to move toward more conservative values in this government, that’s something. It’s taken years to get where we are, and it’s going to take years to turn this around.”

And he also quoted fellow TEA Party activists Jerry DeLemus, Jane Aitken, Ken Eyring, and Brad Winslow.  In fact, the quote from Brad reinforced what I had been trying to emphasize with the reporter, Wayne Slater :

Brad Winslow, a software designer from Salem, agreed that while the tea party might fall short in putting a staunchly conservative budget hawk in the White House, its impact would be felt in local and state politics.

“We’re changing school boards and we’re getting local officials elected. Certainly at the state level of New Hampshire, we’ve made gains,” he said. “Have we solved our problems with RINOs [Republicans in name only]? … It’s going to take a while to weed that out.”

Get that last part?  About “We’re changing school boards and we’re getting local officials elected.  So true.

The knock on the Presidential Primary campaign is “oh, the TEA Party is broken and old news” because there is no clearly identifiable TEA Party candidate in the running (a la Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL).  The Republican Establishment is happy, the Left is saying ‘whew!” and the media is supporting both.  Yet, all three are missing the point of what the TEA Party is and what it is all about.

2012 NH Governor Race – Maggie Hassan calls the opposition “extremists”

A friend of mine sent me this email missive from Maggie Hassan (candidate for the Democrat nomination for NH Governor):

Dear Friend,

After watching the GOP Primary, I got tense thinking about all of the damage some of these candidates could do to progressive causes and values across the country.

That’s why we need President Obama to stand strong.

At home, progressive values face the most serious threat in years.  We need to stand strong right now as well.  Please support our campaign financially today to make sure we stand strong as Granite Staters.

If Bill O’Brien and his extremist friends control all three branches of our government there is no telling the amount of damage they could do.  Consider, they have already:

  • Overriden the Governor’s veto to allow parents to opt their child out of ANY public school class if they don’t like the material that is being taught for ANY reason
  • Tried to repeal the law that protects our environment and limits the impact of greenhouse gases across all of New England
  • Tried to repeal public employee collective bargaining rights and passed so-called “right to work” legislation.
  • Organized to repeal marriage equality.
  • Tried to repeal kindergarten and compulsory education altogether.
  • Repealed the minimum wage.
  • Cut cigarette taxes.
  • Canceled the state’s contract with Planned Parenthood for birth control.

Extremist?  Really?  Now, as I said here, I’m willing to talk with anyone, including Progressive Democrats – and be nice too!  But really – extremist? Of course I have some thoughts….
