EAST DERRY, N.H.—The N.H. House of Representatives overwhelmingly declared that no governor ought to use emergency powers the same way as Gov. Chris Sununu ever again, and passed a reform yesterday with a bi-partisan veto-proof majority that will make sure of this.
We learned that Wednesday was House Budget Day. The NH House spent the better part of Wednesday passing a budget that kept Republican campaign promises. We passed HB1 and HB2, the budget bill and trailer bill, which effectively utilized tax dollars, and cut back government spending while cutting taxes.

This week, my committee met to review the performance audit of the liquor commission’s division of enforcement and licensing. The Commerce Committee, which usually deals with the liquor laws, joined us and provided a unique perspective.

This week, my committee heard HB 141, which requires the department of environmental services to track, in a publicly-accessible database, all uses of class B firefighting foam – used on flaming liquids, very effective but contains PFAS chemicals that have contaminated some water supplies.
New Hampshire has a few bills I like to call ‘Actual COVID Relief Legislation.’ They relieve the pain and suffering imposed by the unnecessary political response. Yes, it was unnecessary; Florida and South Dakota are proof of that. So, here comes HB 63, a bill that would forgive emergency order violations.
The New Hampshire House has taken note of the potential for threats to motorists traveling near “protesters.” It has approved a change to state law that would expand the allowable use of deadly force in self-defense or the defense of another to include motor vehicles.
