Opportunity is Knocking. Will Chris Sununu Answer the Door?

So ConVal School District has sued over education funding. A copy of the lawsuit can be found in this New Hampshire Public Radio article. Essentially, ConVal urges the State Supreme Court to reprise its ongoing role as State Supreme School Board and order that the State has to use ConVal’s formula to determine the “cost … Read more

The New Hampshire GOP Shows, Yet Again, That It Is The Stupid Party

This: Let’s be real. The Democrats’ primary objective is NOT regulating inaugural committees. It is embarrassing Sununu. The Democrats had zero interest in “inaugural slush funds,” “self-dealing” blah, blah, blah when Maggie or Lynchie or Jeannie were doing the slushing: Since Hassan did not have to file reports disclosing her inaugural activity, there are no … Read more

Will Gov Chris Sununu veto SB241?

Our standard of measure (an engineering term that Gov. Sununu should know well) here at GraniteGrok includes the NH Constitution.  SB241 is yet another attempt to implement a 19th-century technology, a choo-choo train, for the benefit of a very few at the expense of very many. And of course, they are at it again with a … Read more

New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu’s Budget Address

Thank you — Good morning. Happy Valentines day. Mr. Speaker, Madame President, honorable members of the house, senate, and Executive Council and commissioners and department heads who have joined us today. My fellow citizens — Welcome. I would like to start by thanking the many Commissioners and state agencies we worked with throughout the past … Read more

Kids Already Learn Everywhere, So Let’s Give Them Credit

By Colleen Hroncich, As any parent will tell you, learning doesn’t end when the school day ends. Not all kids thrive in a conventional classroom—some earn their marks after the dismissal bell through service, sports, nature, or the arts. Why shouldn’t their learning count for graduation credits? That’s the game-changing proposal that New Hampshire Governor … Read more

The Red Pen Governor

The liberty and freedom we’ve enjoyed in New Hampshire is under direct attack.  And it’s the worst it has ever been. Fresh off their November election wins, Democrats fired up their campaign to restrict rights and grow government.  And, unfortunately, they control the House, Senate and Executive Council.   But fortunately, we still have a Republican governor … Read more

Off-Shore Wind Boondoggles- NH Says Deal Me In

New Hampshire has expressed an interest in “milking” the sacred cow of offshore wind. To that end Governor Sununu recently asked the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) to establish an intergovernmental offshore renewable energy task force for New Hampshire. The move is the first step in a multiyear process whose goal is to screw taxpayers for … Read more

Something Steve’s Post on the Florida Supreme Court’s Recent Education Funding Decision Made Me Think Of …

Steve MacDonald recently posted Florida Court Invokes Separation of Powers in Refusal To Play ‘Adequacy’ Game in Public Education on Granite Grok. You should read it. You should also read the decision. As a parenthetical note, the Florida constitution -before the amendment in issue in the decision- actually contained the word “adequate”: Prior to 1998, article … Read more

Chris Sununu is Destroying the Republican Party

This from Governor Sununu’s “Policy Director”: “Voluntary,” “financially solvent” – sounds just like private insurance, which begs the question:  If it is possible to have a “Paid Family Leave plan” that is “voluntary” and “financially solvent,” then why isn’t such a product already available to employees through private insurers? Because “Paid Family Leave” covers situations … Read more

Quick Thought – If it wasn’t for double standards, they’d have no…

Well, you know what the rest of that line is, right? I do agree with Jon that money is not the root of the NH GOP problems – but it is rather easy to point to as an overall symptom:

The silver lining is a timetable in which the membership of the Republican State Committee picks a new chairman in late January. Incumbent Wayne MacDonald of Derry took over a party last July that had $650 in the bank, $14,000 in bills and $48,000 in long-term debts.

“This isn’t any one person’s fault, especially Wayne, who was handed a bag of crap at the 11th hour,” posted Jon DiPietro, a conservative activist from Manchester. “But we had better get it fixed. There’s a presidential election in two years and it’s going to be here in the blink of an eye.”

Why, what is the problem here?  His immediate predecessor was Jeanne Forrester – and he was the Vice-Chair so he knew about the problem.  Now, the point of this post is not Wayne.  It IS about

Jeb Bradley Needs to Look in the Mirror

State Senator Jeb Bradley’s take on the midterms: “Governor Sununu had no coattails and didn’t campaign with House and Senate members. He is going to pay a price for that certainly,” Bradley said. “He won, but Sununu under-performed; there’s no question about it. We did fine with in-state fundraising but we’re going to have to … Read more

Question Answered: Maybe Chris Sununu Can Get Re-Elected…, But What About Everyone Else?

Back in May, I questioned whether Republican behavior, especially Governor Sununu’s, which had gotten decidedly progressive, could weather the electoral storm in November? And while Governor Sununu may be able to weather the loss of thousands of votes… what of elected members of the party he (at least figuratively) leads? Candidates who need a handful or … Read more

Democrat Molly Kelly Wants Gov. Chris Sununu to Denounce Brett Kavanaugh

Candidate for New Hampshire Governor Molly Kelly (D – Never met a tax increase she didn’t like) wants the current Republican governor, Chris Sununu, to denounce Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination publicly. Sure, it’s a trap, but not one he can’t easily side-step. Mr. Sununu should counter with something like, “This is not a banana republic. No … Read more

Have we been down this Sununu road before?

I took a LOT of crap for writing this post about then US Senator John E. Sununu’s lack of campaigning – and Jeanne Shaheen cleaned his campaign clock and took his seat away. So I ask once again – how much campaigning has one seen from latest / youngest scion of the Super Sununu family lately?  Not a heck of a lot from what I’ve seen or heard – and he seems rather proud of it as I’m now just watching him on WMUR’s News. In a piece contrasting Molly Kelly (upping her Primary hastings efforts now towards the General election a few scant weeks from now), there’s Chris:

Adam: But the Governor is planning to run on his own record: from full day kindergarten to cutting taxes. And he’s highlighting that he’s spending more time on working than campaigning

Yeah, heard that tactic before.  How’d that work out for the family business?

“I’m so angry that he put us in this situation. I’m in no mood to help him right now.”

Chris SununuThat from an ally over NH Gov. Chris Sununu signing HB1319, the latest Bathroom Bill (aka “today I feel like a women even without the lady bits so I’m going into the ladies room”) and HB587 (gotta let gays be gays and no talking them out of it) which is a sop to the gay lobby and is an affront to both the First Amendment and NH’s Constitution in the matter of denying free speech and free conscious. I wrote this at the time:

So Governor Chris Sununu just told his Conservative and Faith-Based base to buzz off. You just told those that brung you to the dance that you’re in love with another. OK, buzz off we shall – like a buzzsaw. You asked we’ll deliver.

So how do I tell him and NH State Rep Mindi Messmer apart, who is running for US Congress with pretty much the same message
