The Red Pen Governor

The liberty and freedom we’ve enjoyed in New Hampshire is under direct attack.  And it’s the worst it has ever been.

Fresh off their November election wins, Democrats fired up their campaign to restrict rights and grow government.  And, unfortunately, they control the House, Senate and Executive Council.

But fortunately, we still have a Republican governor – and he promised to at least defend our gun rights under Article 2a of the NH Constitution.  Chris Sununu showed us this when he signed Constitutional Carry into law a couple years ago.

Even if he sticks to his promise, there are still scores of other bad bills in the system.  And, like IED or sapper attacks, for every 50 bills they submit, a handful will surely make it through the wire. (increase business taxes, raise minium wage, unionize the legislature, eliminating the death penalty, increase vehicle registration fees, eliminate voter id, etc. etc.)

So, can’t we just sit back and relax, confident that Chris Sununu will do the right thing and veto every bad bill, including the ones that shrink our gun rights?  Sure you can – but only if he thinks like you…and if you trust him.

For starters, Governor Sununu isn’t really a hardcore Conservative, and has favored some things that most Conservatives don’t – Medicaid Expansion, All-Day Kindergarten, Paid Family Medical Leave, to name a few.

Second, like most New Hampshire Governors, he’s looking at the US Senate as the next notch in his political belt.  And thanks to the Progressive 17th Amendment, running for US Senate is both a beauty pageant and a big money game.

So if Sununu plans to be our next US Senator, he will walk straight down the middle – pleasing both sides of the aisle as much as he can.

What will he give the Leftists during this walk?  Sure, he signed Constitutional Carry, but will he sign a repeal based on “popular demand”, the results of some bogus polling?

Will he sign the Red Flag Law currently in committee (where a family member or neighbor can report you as a public safety risk without due process), calling it a “common sense” and “necessary” approach to improving gun safety (in the safest state in the Union)?

Will he sign a watered-down version of the 7-day waiting period bill (for firearms AND ammunition), compromising on a 3-day wait instead?

Lesser evils.

Chris Sununu is a politician.  Sure, he’s spent time running aspects of his family business – but make no mistake – he’s a politician at heart.  And politicians need to raise money, slap some backs and make deals.  And our liberty and freedom could be the chips on the table.

So, what do we do?  Well, Chris Sununu needs to remember who we are.  We are the Conservative base.  And if he wants to be a US Senator, he needs us as much as he needs them.

If you look back at the Senate campaigns of Scott Brown and Kelly Ayotte, this becomes clear – both lost the support of the true Conservative base and, most importantly, the gun rights base – and both lost their elections.  If Kelly Ayotte had only been slightly more Conservative, she would have gotten those 863 votes needed to defeat Maggie Hassan.  Talk about “almost had it”.

So, contact Chris Sununu in some way.  Call him, write an email or forward him this article.

Some people have even decided to send him Red Pens, symbolic of our expectation that he veto any bill that infringes on our gun rights or grows government beyond the limits of reason and budget.

For extra credit, send him a whole pack of red pens from Amazon ($5)

You can’t prevent your government from doing bad things to you – unless you take some action to control your government.
