Why?  We EXPECT that to be done – it should go almost without question. If those bad things were outside of the Platform or Constitutional bounds, it should be an automatic “You shall not pass” (H/T: Indiana Jones and the Holy Grail). It is a measure of quality against your Standard.  We know what that is – both are easily found.  We expect that you know them, that they guide you, and such elected politicians, when you swear your oath to defend it or campaign under that banner that they would be uppermost in your mind when contemplating whether to sign or veto.

  • Consider the conversion sexual attraction / therapy ban bill, HB 587?
  • Consider the education savings account bill, HB 1636 (formerly SB193)?
  • Consider the Medicaid Expansion bill (I can’t remember the bill number)

Isn’t the first one:

  • Affirmation of the Democrat Identity Politics agenda?
  • WHY would you strengthen their Cultural Marxism tool against your own Party?
  • And isn’t it an affront to both the First Amendment (free speech), and Articles 4, 6, 22, 30, 32, and 38? And quite a few of the NH GOP Platform statements (free people, religious freedom)?  WHY are the Republicans allowing themselves to be hauled into the Democrat “hate speech” canard?  Is this yet another canard in which elected Republicans are meekly falling into line so they won’t have to hear “bad words from the Dems and the media” or worse, “let’s just take this off the table so they can’t use it against us”.  As Kimberly is wont to say

UNH CampusWhere are the Republican Professors at UNH? If it’s like most campuses they are in hiding. College campuses are hostile hate mongering intimidation mills for thought outside the approved narratives. And UNH is just getting worse. But it’s easy to see why.

When I read this study, I wanted to see where the University of New Hampshire, the largest university in our state, fell in this bias.  The results were even worse than the study: with nearly 2,000 donations this cycle alone, ZERO were to any Republican-affiliated candidates or organizations.

We are hiringCNBC is reporting that jobless claims have hit a 48-year low (which for the math challenged includes the years when Obama was President).

Initial claims for state unemployment benefits were unchanged at a seasonally adjusted 211,000 for the week ended May 5, the Labor Department said on Thursday. Claims dropped to 209,000 during the week ended April 21, which was the lowest level since December 1969.

There are more jobs than skilled labor, by many estimates. Hey, maybe some of those able-bodied folks on Medicaid Expansion will look for work before January 2019 when the NH Waiver makes it mandatory?

No Heavy Hitters for April?

Heavy Hitters AprilDid you miss the published post for April’s heavy hitters? No. There wasn’t one and this feature may have to wait for its “official” return until the new site goes up. Why?

We had a number of issues in April that made an accurate calculation impossible. First, we had to do a site restore that erased a week’s worth of hit counts. I tried to keep track, I did. Then I had a heart attack. Then we had another issue with a link hijacker and I unplugged a handful of site plugins to address potential security issues, one of which was the post hit counter.

I simply don’t have the number’s but I am still armed with my opinion, so here are a few of the posts I liked the most from April 2018.

Why the obsession with spending money to attract people to move into New Hampshire

Have you ever visited the Grand Canyon? If you were there would you ask yourself how you can spend people’s taxes to attract more visitors? While waiting in line to enter the sold-out Zion National Park would you think of ways to get more millennials to visit?

New Hampshire has many fine qualities. Near the top of my list is its low population which results in rare traffic problems and short lines virtually everywhere. Even in the heat of summer, it’s not too hard to find a place to spread out on the beach at Wallis Sands State Park. In the fall rush, a person can hike the trails of Pack Monadnock and still enjoy seclusion in the woods. In the summer, a family can get a ticket to the minor league ball game for cheap and not get turned away due to a sell-out.

At no point do I ever say to myself “I wish there were more people here.”

The government-will-protect-you-narratives of the gun-ban left took a few more hits this week. Broward County School Officials finally admitted (discovered?) that Parkland Shooter Nikolas Cruz was referred to the Obama-Era program that prevents arrests for behavior that would have prevented Cruz from buying the gun he used in the shooting spree.
