Drunken Senate Binge-Spends ‘Surplus,’ Asks House to Go Along

Federal money-addictionSo much for the Senate being the more tempered and ‘August’ body of any legislature. Ours just took one look at the surplus I discussed here and went on a spending spree.

CONCORD ­— It started as a routine bill to create the position of state demographer, but has turned into what some are calling “the Christmas tree,” an omnibus spending bill that doles out nearly $100 million in surplus revenues from a flush state budget.

Among the baubles hung on HB 1817 in a late-night session of the Senate on May 3: nearly $13 million for state employee pay raises; $20 million for red-listed bridges; $44 million to settle a dispute with hospitals over uncompensated care; and another $10 million for the state’s Rainy Day Fund.

Lack of Character in the Corner Office

George Washington was a reluctant, selfless first President.  He put his personal life on hold to serve as our nation’s first leader.  He could have served as America’s President for life but didn’t.  Having fought for the Rights and virtues that were written in the Declaration of Independence, and subsequently, in our Constitution, George Washington genuinely understood their meaning and their values.  When his service as President of our country was over, he returned home to resume his civilian life. He was a true public servant – and not a career politician.  George Washington put what was best for our country ahead of his personal interests.

Our founding fathers were acutely aware that this selfless form of service to our Government would be the greatest means to serve the American people.

Regrettably, George Washington’s virtues (and those of our Founding Fathers) are now only found in a few elected representatives… and NH’s Governor Chris Sununu is not one of them.  Instead, Mr. Sununu is more interested in being re-elected to the Governor’s office for life, rather than respecting the GOP Platform and the promises he made during his campaign (view 29:13 of this debate).

(It’s hard to miss when it is in black and white). And what I’ve said before, is that Concord often follows Washington DC in Republican voting, has been repeated once again. Major bills that should have passed, after we gave the GOP the House, the Senate, and the Corner Office, have failed. Important ones to the conservative base.  Ones that should have breezed through – if the NH GOP patrolled itself a bit better.  We do the heavy lifting come vote time – like any investor, we expect an ROI on that investment of time, effort, and sometimes, real money. At the end of the season, why shouldn’t we, like investors at quarterly/end year, look back and say “were they worth it”?  What you’re hearing is “er, nope” (stronger terms should be imagined).

  • He’s an outright liar
  • He’s fishing for clickbait
  • He’s wishing to cast aspersions of guilt amongst the Union Leader readership
  • He’s lazy.

Or all four.  He’s been around NH politics a long, LONG time – he knows better than to do this unless he was intent on making trouble where none exists. Yet, he decided to take a fact and make it an unfact: what’s a delegate by the rules?

How Soon Before ‘Mother’s Day’ is Banned in New Hampshire?

Today is Mother’s Day, that lovely day once every year in which people across the country celebrate their mothers in a special way, the women who birthed or raised them and loved them unconditionally. Of course, with the impending Gender Identity legislation, passed by a majority of men and about to be signed into law by Governor Sununu, eventually, to appease trans activists, motherhood will be redefined just like womanhood is being redefined under House Bill 1319 (HB 1319).

New Hampshire’s “Crumbs” – Federal Tax Reform Produces “Abnormal Rise” in Business Tax Revenue

Dollar-Differences-and-Changes-in-Revenue-April-2018-768x388This week the New Hampshire Fiscal Policy Institute (NHFPI) issued some analysis on the “abnormal rise” in New Hampshire Business tax revenue. Their conclusion? It is likely due to Federal Tax Reform.

As of the end of April, the BPT and BET together are about $90.8 million (16.9 percent) above plan for the year, and $107.0 million (20.6 percent) above April 2017. Although these two business taxes have been the primary source of the surplus during the year, the post-TCJA rise has dwarfed other revenue sources, even those that are major contributors.

Fox Television Picks up ‘Last Man Standing’ for Season 7

Last Man StandingFoxnews.com reports that Tim Allen’s hugely popular ABC show has been picked up by Fox for Season seven.

Gary Newman and Dana Walden, chairmen and CEOs of Fox Television Group, said the decision to bring back the series was a no-brainer.

Marriage and the NHGOP

To advocates for removing “traditional” from marriage in the NHGOP platform.

First, you are guilty of using the most frustrating and pernicious leftist debate tactic.

To try to make your case, you use examples outside the norm – such as families who adopt, grandparents raising their grandchildren, single parents due to the death of a spouse – in an attempt to undermine the norm. It’s no different than those who are pro-abortion trying to undermine opposition to abortion by raising rare cases of rape and incest, or more recently, using the existence of intersex persons to try to undermine natural sex/gender.

Many of us have friends or family whose situation is exactly one of those examples, but their efforts are a compassionate response to a crisis, not something that we should set as a legal standard.

Second, articulating an ideal is not exclusionary.

They surrender the issues they ran for office on to the ability to get “things done” or to “save what they have won.” I the this entirely. It is a basic human instinct – except for liberals. Liberals, progressives, socialists, whatever you want to call them, go even more radical once surrounded by power. They try and eliminate all opposition, that is in their evil nature.

The best of all worlds for progressives is to get their intended victims to help them along. It is an easy task. Plenty of appeasers will side with progressives in an always unsuccessful attempt at satisfying progressive anger and deflecting attacks. This plan never works for long.

HB 587 is on its way to Governor Sununu’s desk. It could strip professional licensing from any counselor whose words to a gender-questioning child are deemed insufficiently supportive of gender reassignment. That’s the absurd vagueness of this so-called “conversion therapy” bill.

Too Bad Frank Edelblut Won’t Run For Governor This Year

Election-Voting-ReutersIn 2016 Mr. Sununu barely survived a primary win against Frank Edelblut. Gov. Sununu offered a job as the state commissioner of Education to Frank, and he may be the best one we’ve had in decades. So we can give Chris credit for listening when someone tells him what might be a smart move for him politically.

That’s important because Frank doesn’t strike me as the sort of guy who would undercut his “boss” in that circumstance so I don’t see him accepting any offer or encouragement to primary Governor Sununu in 2018. But if Chris Sununu signs HB1319, Frank would win easily.

There’s a message in that reality. Here’s another one.
