This September Republican Primary voters in Sullivan County have to choose between an actual Republican (Jeremy Herrell) and a Democrat (Jeffrey Barrette) who is “accidentally” registered as a Republican in their primary. I kid you not.
Barrette who appears on the Sullivan County Commissioners Page as a “Democrat” (pictured far left) is a Democrat but he says he changed his affiliation to ‘undeclared’ before the 2016 Presidential primary and just forgot to change it back.

According to WMUR, he had put in a quarter of a million into his campaign that started three months ago. I’ve had the chance to talk with him and was looking forward to doing an in-depth interview. His announcement:
“After careful consideration and speaking with my family and campaign team, I have decided to suspend my campaign for Congress, effective immediately. While I know that we are in a strong financial and political position looking ahead to the final two months of the primary, recent developments with both my family and business have caused me to arrive at this difficult – but appropriate – decision.
“I announced my candidacy for Congress on May 1 because I have been so very blessed in my life, giving me a strong desire to serve and give back to the communities and people who have been so good to me.
Last month we reported on New Hampshire breaking new ground on both employment and labor participation in May. June was even better.
Seasonally adjusted estimates for June 2018 placed the number of employed residents at 735,730, an increase of 2,540 from the previous month and an increase of 9,020 from June 2017.
I can’t seem to find any comment from Democrat Gubernatorial candidates Steve Marchand or Molly Kelly about this continued climb into record employment and robust labor force participation absent their apothecary’s inventory of socialist curatives.
What is the most important qualification for voting in the State of New Hampshire? This puzzle has “confused” people for decades. One qualification is being 18 years of age – but then again – lots of people are 18 years of age.
So, there must be something else that would set a group of people above the age of 18 apart from all others when it comes to voting in our state.
Let’s check the first two most important sentences in Part 1 Article 11 of our State Constitution when it comes to voting:
New York, Maryland, Connecticut, and New Jersey are suing the federal government over tax Reform. The suit seeks to overturn the new 10,000.00 dollar limit on Federal deductions for State and Local Taxes. New York Governor Cuomo claims that,
“The federal government is hell-bent on using New York as a piggy bank to pay for corporate tax cuts and I will not stand for it,” said Andrew Cuomo, New York’s Democratic governor.
He’s got it exactly backward.

Glenn Reynolds, proprietor at Instapundit, built his reputation, influence, and ranking as a news aggregator in doing zillions of links with just a sentence or two describing what it’s for or commenting on the content at the link. Seldom, VERY seldom, does he do a looong abstract from the piece he’s linking to. Given the length of what he did quote, it’s important and I’m reproducing it here: The Dishonesty Of The Deep State:
I’ve seen President Clinton deny he had a relationship with “that woman, Miss Lewinsky.” I’ve seen President Obama assure people they will get to keep their doctor under ObamaCare. And I’ve seen former press secretary Sean Spicer declare that President Trump’s inaugural crowd was larger than Obama’s.
But these falsehoods pale in comparison to the performances of a series of “deep state” witnesses who have combined chutzpah with balderdash, culminating so far in the testimony of FBI agent Peter Strzok.
Let’s review just some of the highlights.

Capistrano has the swallows, and Nashua, New Hampshire has the rail study. Every legislative ‘season’ the transportation doyens staff up the winery so they can wail like banshees about rail-study money. We need 4-million dollars for another rail study. It’s always four million.
Since the same people will “study” rail with the same preconceived outcomes as every previous study (report, recommendation, guideline, etc) I’d be happy to save them a small fortune and provide reams of analysis on the subject if they send me a new unpackaged thumb drive and pay the cost of labor to populate it.
Or non-profits. Or special interest groups. Whatever you wish to call them, right or left, people have interests and these groups are the essence of what de Tocqueville was so amazed about when he toured America back in the 1830s – the ease and speed in which ordinary Americans voluntarily banded together to solve a problem without government needing to get involved. This has been part of the hallmark of American Exceptionalism – people governing themselves and doing for themselves and others without being told or outsourcing that interest to government. Employees and employers have this thing they do where they agree to the value of any given individual contribution to an operation. Left to its own devices the job market and the free market will find parity not just in costs but prices.
It’s a beautiful thing and it works. But Democrats can’t leave anything alone.
They are obsessed with using the government to meddle. Intrusions that result in outcomes opposite to those advertised.
Swamp Rats inside the IRS can’t leak what they don’t have. And thanks to a new rule the IRS will no longer be collecting personal donor data upfront from organizations that include (for our triggered progressive “friends”) unions and Planned Parenthood.
The Treasury Department said the policy change will maintain donor disclosure requirements for traditional charity groups organized under section 501(c)(3) of tax law. But it frees labor unions, advocacy groups, veterans organizations and other nonprofits such as Planned Parenthood that do not receive tax-exempt money from complying with the decades-old confidential disclosure requirements.
Imagine going into a meeting of a homeowner’s association and saying: I don’t own any of these units, but I stay here sometimes with a friend who owns one, so I should get a vote.
Imagine going into a meeting of the shareholders of a corporation saying: I don’t own any shares of this company, but I use your products sometimes, so I should get a vote.
Imagine going to a polling place in Canada on election day and saying: I’m not a citizen of Canada, but I go to school here, so I should get a vote.
These are all absurd, right?
Every time I hear about a state (most recently Massachusetts) or city (most recently Seattle) raising the minimum wage to some unsustainable level, it makes me wonder what I would do if I ran a business in one of those jurisdictions.
The obvious responses would be to (1) move to a new jurisdiction, (2) hire fewer employees, (3) raise my prices, or some combination of those three. But there’s a less obvious response that I think I would try first.
Would it surprise you to hear that banning plastic drinking straws will accomplish nothing? How about this; that 500 million straws a day “fact” everyone is repeating came from a 9-year old kids’ school project. Or, that U.S. straws in the waste stream are a sliver of a fraction of 1% of all the plastic waste the ends up in the ocean.
