Quick Thought – Government has a “different” definition of “shortly”

I am now of that age to register for Social Security; a couple of months ago, I did so to start soon.  I called at 3pm today to talk to a customer service representative to see if everything was all set.  Upon being transferred from automated system (rather annoying that they have decided that you HAVE to listen to information that THEY deem necessary but has nothing to do with why I was calling), I heard about 30 seconds bit of “on-hold” music and then got this in my ear:

…your wait time is approximately 1 hour and 5 minutes…”

then just a WEE bit more muzak and then this:

The 14th Suggestion

I’m amused to see people dragging out the 14th Amendment in response to President Trump’s suggestion that he’ll unilaterally end ‘birthright citizenship’ through executive action.

For example, a recent piece in Reason ends this way: ‘The original meaning of the 14th Amendment has been clear since 1866. If Trump proceeds with his unconstitutional executive order attacking birthright citizenship, he deserves to be laughed out of court.’

What the author fails to realize is that the words of the 14th Amendment aren’t any more meaningful, to the Supreme Court, than the words of the 1st Amendment, or the 2nd Amendment, or the 4th Amendment, or any of the other words in the Constitution.

Do we have laws, passed by Congress, abridging freedom of speech?  Yes.  Do we have laws infringing the right to keep and bear arms?  Yes.  Do we have laws allowing government agents to search people without probable cause?  Yes.  Do the words of the Constitution allow any of those?  No.  Has the Court unilaterally amended the Constitution to allow all of them?  Yup.

The Ikea Bill of Rights

I recently read about a psychological phenomenon called ‘the Ikea effect’.  Briefly, if you make something — or even just finish making what someone else has started — you value it more than if it’s already complete when you get it.  The work you put in gives you a sense of ownership.

When I saw that, it occurred to me that people don’t seem to value our Constitution, and in particular, our Bill of Rights, as much as they probably should.  And now I wonder if that’s not at least partly because these were handed to them, already complete.

And if that’s true, what might we do about it?

Sigh: And an NH GOP Town Chair supports a Democrat

Yep, it’s almost like the NH GOP hates itself, right? Why would they keep allowing this to happen? Why would a Town Chair think he wouldn’t get caught? Reformatted, emphasis mine:

WINDHAM — The head of the Windham Republican Committee, who hopes to win a seat in the state House of Representatives in the Nov. 6 election, has resigned from his leadership role following a controversial endorsement of a Democratic candidate in the race for Rockingham County Commissioner. On Sept. 30, Joel Desilets used his personal Facebook page to endorse Derry’s Joshua Bourdon, praising him for serving “with the utmost character” as a Derry town councilor. Desilets wrote that Bourdon “will bring integrity to the office as our next county commissioner.” He asked voters to “please consider him for your vote.”

And the reason for this same on same betrayal?  Sounds like political revenge on the part of Joel Desilets – and he played it like a bumbling fool. He sounded like a schmuck as Mike and I  videoed a candidate night (NH State House Representative) in Windham – now he’s removed all doubt:

The sad story of the same suspect Republicans endorsing Democrats – what will the Party do?

Once again, like with almost any election in NH, the same names, the same sorry passel of Progressive Republicans (yes, there are Progressives that call themselves Republicans.  HOW they can do that intellectually as Progressivism is antithetical to the beliefs stated in the NH GOP Platform), the same RINOs, the same folks that couldn’t recognize a conservative Principal if it bit in the ankles, pop up in support of Progressive Democrats.  At least the latter belong in the proper Party – these should consider a move:

Democrat Chris Pappas has announced that more than 100 Republicans and Republicans-turned-independents from across the First Congressional District are supporting his bid to represent them, including several from Central New Hampshire. “Republicans for Chris Pappas” include Liz Hager and Robert Joseph of New Hampton, Alida Millham, Peter Millham, Richard Coggon, and Donna Gaudet Hosmer of Laconia, Marlene Woodaman of Meredith, and Richard Thayer of Wolfeboro.

How long ago was it that both political parties supported America? How long ago was it that both political parties believed America’s border laws should be enforced? Leftists now openly advocate for open borders which is dissolution of America. Earlier this year, the call to abolish U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE, morphed into a Democrat Party position through support from Senators Warren and Gillibrand et.al. It is easy to see how this high visibility public position encourages more illegal immigration, including the caravans.

Even former President Obama when he was a senator said, at least rhetorically, that illegal immigrants couldn’t be let into the country en masse and without restrictions. “… We simply cannot allow people to pour into the United States undetected, undocumented, unchecked and circumventing the line of people who are waiting patiently, diligently, and lawfully to become immigrants into this country…” Do you support Obama or Warren & Gillibrand?
