A false sense of independence, I would say.

"Picture the elderly person that is in their home, independently living, because that is what is better for them, it gives them the most freedom, and their services do not arrive on time.  It takes the social worker, in the darkest hour of the night to go to that elderly person, make sure that they are cared for.

– Diana Lacey, President State Employees Association (SEIU)

This was said this morning on WMUR’s "Close Up" political show this morning – and if you combine this with that, once again you get that cloying feeling that the State has the preeminence in the "caring dept" – the State worries about our youngsters and cares for them, and worries about our oldsters and cares for them.  After all, the parents treat them like slaves chattel and obviously ignore their parents!

But that’s not the point of the post – what is the point is this question: is it a false sense of "independence" that is being flogged by this union President, Ms. Lacey?

We have seen the abuse and obfuscation of language before in the attempted service of political aims (the latest being President Obama…

Unions: “I Got Me and Mine…F*ck You and Yours!”

I fear that New Hampshire Senate Republicans lack the testicular fortitude that Wisconsin Republicans embraced in dealing with Union-related issues. In my 47 years on this planet, I never once begrudged a labor union its’ right to exist and advocate for workers. Today, that has all changed. I now think unions totally and unequivocally ‘suck’.

Firefighters_Police_Protesters3.jpg

Unions’ time has come and gone. The present-day union hackarama serves as little more than a loud, thuggish mouthpiece for a very small percentage of the labor force and merely exerts force on the greater masses into accepting higher taxes to pay for their often times lavish pay and benefits, not commonly available to comparable private sector workers. Only a Union collectively assembles people to act like disruptive bullies, and the rude jerks we witnessed yesterday at the Statehouse. Summarily, I think it behooves us to once again put the greater facts about Unions in perspective once again.

According to a 2010 report of the Bureau of Labor Statistics, 11.9% of the nation’s workforce are union members. Of that number, roughly 35% are public sector employees and 6.9% are private sector unions. Demographically, the highest rate of union membership is among those aged 55-64, closely followed by members aged 45-54.

Despite the representation of a small percentage of the American Labor Force, public employee unions have become the largest contributors to political campaigns. This self-serving, greedy and corrupt allegiance has now netted unsustainable and structural deficits in local governments and municipalities across the nation.

Spoiled Brat Unions Don’t Want Parity – Again.

The measure states–if I understand it correctly–that if the union contract expires and has not been renewed, and no new contract is yet negotiated, those employees become at-will workers who can be treated (wait for it) like everyone else.

Roll Call-palooza – Another Democrat Taxpayer Swindle

New Hampshire Democrats, who benefit from taxpayer money laundered through public employee union dues into their campaign, are spending taxpayer dollars in the legislature to make sure they have sound bites and talking points to give to their union buddies to ensure the Aztec gold continues to flow moving forward.

The End Of The “We Pay Taxes Too” Argument?

The only way it could ever be equal, is if we all paid the same taxes, and taxpayers paid nothing extra for benefits and retirement; you would have to fund pay all of your share of both at the same rates as the average private citizen.

What Changed For State Workers In Wisconsin?

If we ignore the change in national perception based on weeks of evidence that public union employees (and democrats) are selfish, angry, violent, children what actually changed when the Wisconsin legislature and Governor Walker succeeded in passing changes to collective bargaining?

Time for the GOP to go bare-knuckles? Uh…long overdue.

Is there a lesson here for the GOP super-majority in New Hampshire? Well yeah….

Yesterday the super-majority Republicans in the Wisconsin State Senate voted 18-1 to strip government employee unions of all collective bargaining rights. The unions now are essentially…not unions. For all intensive purposes, they have been outlawed. Good. The "Demorat" members of the Wisconsin Senate weren’t there to help their government union friends. They’re hiding somewhere in Illinois, denying the Republicans a quorum to conduct financial affairs. That’s why the vote was so lopsided: No Demorats present.

In the meantime, some say "It’s About Time." The GOP needs to man up and realize they’re in a war. A political and cultural war. They need to admit it, understand it, and act accordingly. Here’s a comment about the Wisconsin events from a RedState.com member:

Union Thuggery -Coming Soon To A State House near You.

WI ThugsI was just thinking back to all the loose talk from the left about ending the gun ban in the New Hampshire State House.  How they imagined someone just unloading over testimony supporting same sex marriage–to use one example–kids getting cut down in the cross-fire.  And how they fell over themselves trying to scare parents into keeping their children from ever visiting the place because it was now just too dangerous.

Then I look at the way the union run leftists in Wisconsin are acting.  How they are storming the state house, climbing in through windows, and forcing people to flee for fear of their well being.  These pro-union forces are pushing against state troopers trying to get past them.  Maybe being let in by union cops.  Just because they demand the ability to collectively bargain for benefits (not wages–they still have that privilege as far as I know.)

What is perhaps more instructive is that the left in New Hampshire supports them.  I’d bet money you will not hear a peep in opposition to any of this from the state leadership of the democrat party.  Nothing about State Senators running away like spoiled children.  Nothing about the hate speech, the Hitler signs, the threats or the aggressive mob tactics and intimidation.  They support that–and by their own rules support it through their silence.

So what of it?

Dear New Hampshire Democrat Party…

Given you gentle spleens when it comes to matters of incivility, we on the right would like you to comment on this email, sent by pro union left wing forces, to elected Republican legislators in Wisconsin.

Unions – about power. Yeah, that sums it up….

Own the politicians, own the power.  Own the power, own the money.  Spend the money on politicians. Watch that loop cycle over and over again.  After all, it is your tax dollars that allow this nonsense to continue over and over and over again. (H/T: RedState)

Wisconsin Protesters

To the Editor:

Many of the people protesting on Saturday don’t even understand what they are doing.  They talk about “Worker’s Rights” (which I support).  But they have been duped into protesting for public sector  “Union rights”, the right of unions to conspire with politicians against the interests of the American people.

President Franklin Roosevelt said it was wrong to unionize government  workers because they are supposed to serve the public.  He was right.  The public sector was unionized about 50 years ago.  Unionization has led to union leaders and politicians creating an increasing number of safe, easy and often low value, well paid unionized employees whose union dues are funneled back to the politicians.  It is a vicious cycle.  Politicians are supposed to represent the people, but they ignore the good of the people to reward their union supporters.  This is corruption pure and simple.

The Real Reason For Raising The Drop Out Age To 18?

I can tell you from long discussions about the various pathways to “graduation” that the goal is more geared toward getting kids through school on paper to make the numbers look good. Any reasonable path to that end is considered a win, but by any traditional standard it is anything but a public school success story.

Moultonborough, NH edition: Scary leanings of Teachers

As I pointed out here, there seems to be a side of teachers to believe that they are of more importance to a child’s well being and success than their parents.  Yes, I know about how some parents are doing the best they could (according to teachers) to help their kids through school and the like; I get that.  Having run a daycare center, I saw it first hand and gently shook my head at some parents.  But that was a minority, a real small minority of parents.

Sidenote: Sometimes, parents give up trying to help.  I’ll admit – I’m not a math major as I only got through multi-variate calculus and I do computers instead of my major, biology (where I concentrated on energy transfers within sub-cellular mechanisms).  I figured that SURE, I can help my kids with their math and science homework.  But I’ll tell you, all I ever got was “THAT’s not how my teacher teaches me!”.  And when I finally figured out the cockamamie way it was being done, I finally learned why Johnnie and Janie can’t read and make change in the 7-11; I admit, I stopped trying to “help” my kids – it caused more problems than it solved.  It brought back memories of trying to teach a Education student what Y=MX+b was.

But I would never, not even in my wildest dreams of megalomania or delusions of being “Emperor for the World for a Week”, would presuppose to believe that I was better for their kids than they were – my staff were paid to watch over and teach age appropriate lessons.  Never did I think that we were that important to believe that we should or could supplant parents.

Unfortunately, like the teachers in that post, there are others that need to relearn that lesson – like these words uttered by teachers in Moultonborough, NH back in October, whose words were similar to that of the WI teachers:

…students are WAY ahead of the times, way ahead of parents on multiple issues especially when it comes to openness and sexuality…I disagree with having parent being allowed in.  I think that students are willing to talk about this because they have different views than their parents…a huge disservice to the community and the school.

And I wonder why they have different views…as another teacher admitted (also speaking against letting parents into that workshop:

Obama and Jobs

President Obama says he is focusing on jobs.  Is that good or bad?  In 2009 and 2010 he said he would “focus like a laser” on jobs.  Yet we suffer from the longest high unemployment since the great depression with no end in sight.

Nationwide Union Protest a Flop. But Not to the Lamestream Media

Failure. The rapacious, greedy, plundering unions failed. Good. From the excellent Legal Insurrection blog, a few words about the national protests that were supposed to occur in support of the public employee unions in Wisconsin: The 50-state protest was a failure, plain and simple, although the images from Madison may create the false impression of massive … Read more
