Last I remember, NH sent both Frank Guinta and Charlie Bass to CUT THE SPENDING.

Low expectations for Charlie on my part – am not enthused that he has failed to meet that height challenged standard.  For Frank, however, who campaigned hard with TEA Party constituencies, the bar was higher – MUCH higher.  Sigh….Today, I get to repeat my lament: why isn’t your name among the other Conservatives that voted against spending more?  Oh, to be sure, I got both eBlasts about H.R. 4628:

  • Charlie’s: Earlier today, the House passed, on a bipartisan vote, legislation to extend the current student loan interest rate of 3.4 percent for one year.  Without Congressional action, the rate would double on July 1st, making it even more difficult for students struggling to find jobs in such a weak economy to pay back their loans.  I strongly supported this fully-offset, fiscally-responsible legislation and hope the Senate moves on it as soon as possible.
  • Frank’s: Representative Frank Guinta (R, NH-01) today voted for the passage of H.R. 4628, the Interest Rate Reduction Act.  It would extend the current 3.4 percent rate for college undergraduate recipients of Federal Direct Stafford loans.  Without congressional action, that rate will double on July 1.  The bill was approved in a 215 to 195 vote.

I note with no small irony that Obama has recently visited over 120 colleges and universities.   My response concerning this out-and-out-pander vote back at Frank’s office (NH CD-2 is not my district and I’ve given up on Bass):

So, we’re taking money from a program that most of us want to kill, for which we had no money for it in the first place, to fund a program that Obama nationalized.

Remembering Democrat Rule In New Hampshire – Part 1

New Hampshire Democrats treated your money like toilet paperIn the 2006 Elections Democrats took control of the New Hampshire House for the first time in 95 years (giving them complete control of State government for what would end up being four years).  What happened after that must not be forgotten, for it is the doom of men that they forget.

They forget that the House Democrats first move was to turn budget policy on its head.  Instead of estimating realistic revenues so that the governor could have a guideline for his budget, they would let the governor request a 14% expansion of state government in February of 2007, to which they would pad or add their spending spree agenda items before figuring out how to tax New Hampshire citizens to pay for their wish list.

In the now infamous shout heard round the State House, Democrat House leader Dan Eaton would later condense the entire four year budget strategy of the New Hampshire left into one sentence.

 ‘It makes sense to know how much you’re spending before you decide how much money to raise.’

Now that might just make sense for a school trip or new band uniforms but this wasn’t a fundraiser.  Eaton was talking about using the force of law and the power of the state to extract juice from the fruits of other peoples labors based on the whimsy of big government legislators with little or no regard for its affect on the state, our economy, or the people who would be paying, and that was exactly how the Democrats would govern.

Media Irresponsibility

The editorial in Friday’s The Citizen, reprinted from the Concord Monitor was totally irresponsible.  So, I submitted the following as community commentary to The Citizen, and something similar to the Concord Monitor.  I doubt they will publish my input:

Please check the attribution of The Citizen’s April 13, 2012 editorial, titled, “A budget to widen nation‘s income gap.“  If it really came from the Concord Monitor, please check to see if they have replaced their editorial staff with the Democrat National Committee.   I am shocked that our respected local paper would print such a partisan and totally non-constructive editorial.

The editorial calls the Ryan plan ”radical”.  Compared to what?  Lets compare it to the Senate‘s budget.  Oops, the Democrat controlled Senate doesn’t have a budget, it hasn’t passed a budget in three years!

Letter Doodlings – a rebuttal to Meg Jenkins

It is now Town Meeting / Deliberative Session time here in NH where town budgets are being proposed and voted upon by town citizens (no, not just City Councilors, select boards, Town Councils, aldermen, and the like – I really do mean ALL the registered taxpayers in a given town).  My hamlet just did their Deliberative Sessions (Town and School Board) where each Warrant Article on the ballot is discussed, perhaps amended, and voted upon to put it on the official ballot for March’s actual vote.  Apparently, Ms. Jenkins was none too happy with my actions to vote on these Articles in a secret ballot as opposed a voice vote, a hand raised vote, or a stand up vote.  Nor is she all that keen that some of us want to start spending less in town (that’s considered to be “not supportive”).  Of COURSE, I had a response that I sent in as a Letter to the Editor:

Free market liquor stores coming

GOP Rep. John Hikel has sponsored a bill that will allow bottled spirits of all types to be sold in markets, grocery stores, convenience stores, and other outlets. This change in the law will obviously benefit the free market and consumers in New Hampshire, but it will also result in the creation of lots of jobs, and lots more work for truckers, delivery people, stockers, etc. A Commerce Committee hearing will be held this coming Tuesday, February 7th, at 2:15 p.m. in Room 302 of the Legislative Office Building in Concord. You should be there and testify in FAVOR of the bill.

US Senator Kelly Ayotte (R-NH) – I keep appreciating how she is actually voting and talking.

As we have said before (and told her personally), Senator Kelly has been a pleasantly surprising voice and vote in the US Senate as she has been voting more conservatively than what we first believed she would.  I think this quick interview she did with Fox News shows how important the debt ceiling, the indebtedness this nation has descended to, is to her:

I don’t think that there is a sane person in NH or the rest of the country that would disagree with her.  Progressives that worship at the feet of Obama and hang on every syllable uttered from TOTUS?  They continue to believe in the magical money tree, financial pixie dust, and Hope (which, as any project manager will tell you, is never a solid plan for success).

So, Obama knew that the financial meltdown was NOT just Wall Street’s fault???

Conventional wisdom / street knowledge is that Wall Street and their crazy and risky financial instruments was not solely to blame for the financial crash from which we are still picking our way out of (even as Obama keeps erecting more and more obstacles in that pathway).  Over at The EnterpriseBlog, James Pethokoukis (a highly respected economics journalist) plucks 11 “stunning revelations” from a formerly secret document that Larry Summers (former head of Obama’s economic advisors, and was advising him during the campaign).  The 11th was what caught my eye (James takeaway followed by an actual quote from the Summer’s document):

11. The financial crisis wasn’t just Wall Street’s fault.

A significant cause of the current crisis lies in the failure of regulators to exercise vigorously the authority they already have.

Not to take away any shame or malfeasance by Wall Street, this is a stunning admission from someone who became “the Obama Administration’s economic insider”.  This statement can also be placed not only on the Wall Street regulators but also the two GSEs (Government Sponsored Entities) Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.  Obama’s main thrust has been to advocate and regulate more rules by government over the financial sector.  Yet, little has been admitted by the Obama Administration (and other Democrats like Barney Frank) in terms of Government malfeasance.  But then again, to do so would undermine Obama’s own philosophy and core belief – how could the Progressive State be allowed to “guide” and regulate the lives of all of us if it itself cannot regulate itself?  What is the sense of adding more and more regulations if the State (e.g., the Feds) could not even credibly enforce what was already on the books?  If that last question holds true, Obama and the rest of his pathetic pack of Progressives have only a chasm of platitudes instead of a valid political philosophy.  If true, on what basis can they credibly state:

“trade your individual freedom for our equality enforced upon all – after all, we know better!”

Data Point – Yeah, those Republicans have certainly slowed down spending, eh?

Do Nothing Democrats

It has been three years since the Democrat party produced a federal budget. The Democrat Senate has blocked repeated efforts by the Republican controlled House to ‘do something’ about that. President Obama, Senate leader Harry Reid, and the Democrat leaderships contribution (including their media homunculus) has been to demand compromise without giving any.

Its Time to Ignore Liberal Bullying

Mr. Veverka and Mr. Hightower would have you believe that any time a liberal imagines a need, the government should reach into your pocket, or at least your neighbor’s pocket, and take your (or his) money.  Or, more accurately, the government should borrow money from the Chinese for which we promise repayment of principal, interest, and a little bit of the opportunities, freedom, and standard of living of our children, grandchildren, and future generations of Americans.  

Anyone who does not immediately jump at this “bargain” will be the target of name calling, lies, and hysterical personal attacks.  This intimidation is to blame for a significant amount of our current approximately $15 trillion national debt and so many flawed government programs.

Stonyfield CEO In Line For Another Pile of Taxpayer Cash?

>The question should not be if Stonyfield Dairy CEO and prolific Democrat donor Gary Hirshberg gets another pile of taxpayer cash, it should be “how much is he going to get?”  But whatever do I mean?

The University of New Hampshire has just been approved to receive a Department of Agriculture grant totaling $2.86 million dollars to “enhance the year-round capacity of northeast organic dairy producers to produce high quality component-enriched organic milk.”

Hirshberg is almost always on the receiving end of taxpayer funded public largesse.  In August of 2010 he was awarded $100,000.00 by Democrat Governor John Lynch and the State of New Hampshire as part of a job training program. 

Not long after Stonyfield was fingered by Senator Tom Coburn over the matter of a $700,000.00 Federal grant to the University of New Hampshire to study the environmental impact of organic dairy farms on the environment.  Who do you think just happens to have an organic Dairy Farm?  An organic dairy farm run by the Hirshberg’s but majority owned by Dannon /Group Danone, one of the largest food companies on the face of planet earth.

MAGGIE “THE MARXIST” HASSAN IS RUNNING

 Defeated Democratic state Senator Maggie Hassan made it official today that she will be running for governor in 2012. In her usual hokum, Hassan touted the typical big government solution to prop up the economy. As reported in the Union Leader, Maggie the Marxist, “stressed the need to create jobs by “investing” in education and job training programs and by fostering a business climate that attracts innovative small businesses and new technologies.” Translation: “investing” equals big-government spending and solutions…equals heavy taxation to raise such revenues. Such notions were brought with her as a carpet-bagging “massplant” to the Granite State. 

The Union Leader reported that “Maggie the Marxist” pledged to be a fiscally responsible governor who would veto any sales or income tax and commit herself to a balanced state budget.“  This is laughable given her extensive record as a State Senator.  My fellow Blogger Steve MacDonald absolutely nailed it on back October 5th when he wrote:

  Hassan is a left wing, government first, spend then tax Democrat who wants socialized medicine, supports abortion from conception to birth (also here), and was more than willing to trample on opponents with the “Sullivan/Hassan Hates Speech (the left can’t control) amendment.” (also here, and here, …)  She is also willing to lie about her opponents to get re-elected.
