US Senator Kelly Ayotte (R-NH) – I keep appreciating how she is actually voting and talking.

As we have said before (and told her personally), Senator Kelly has been a pleasantly surprising voice and vote in the US Senate as she has been voting more conservatively than what we first believed she would.  I think this quick interview she did with Fox News shows how important the debt ceiling, the indebtedness this nation has descended to, is to her:

I don’t think that there is a sane person in NH or the rest of the country that would disagree with her.  Progressives that worship at the feet of Obama and hang on every syllable uttered from TOTUS?  They continue to believe in the magical money tree, financial pixie dust, and Hope (which, as any project manager will tell you, is never a solid plan for success).

That which cannot be sustained will stop at some point – the question will be is whether it will be a controlled landing (the interest rates will balloon at some point, pushing debt payment from 4th to 2nd place of expenditure priorities in the space of weeks) by wise and skillful politicians (yeah, I’m CERTAINLY gonna hold my breath that we get a majority of those) or whether the market will do it.  Make no mistake – the market will be ruthless when it happens.  And those weasels and wusses in Congress that act like ostriches and sand (unlike Kelly and others that recognize our impending financial doom) give me little to believe that they can or will step up to make the hard decision(s).

I had seen the video before I got this from her office:

Tuesday marked a troubling milestone for our country — 1,000 days since the Democrat-controlled Senate last passed a budget.  During that time, Washington has spent $9.4 trillion and added $4.1 trillion to the national debt.  Congress is required by law to produce a budget and has an obligation to perform this most basic, but critical, function. As a member of the Senate Budget Committee, I will continue to press the Democratic leadership of the Senate to allow us to fulfill our obligation to the American people and pass a responsible budget plan for our country.

This week, the President also asked Congress to raise the debt ceiling by another $1.2 trillion.  Yet in his State of the Union address, the President failed to offer – let alone outline – a serious deficit reduction plan that cuts spending. The government is spending so much, so fast that the President may request yet another debt limit increase before the end of this year.  I voted against the debt limit hike because we cannot wait any longer to address our deterioating fiscal situation, and I will continue to push for a bipartisan path forward.

Our motto is “Spank’em when they’re wrong, but thank’em when they’re right”; Thanks, Kelly!
