I’m going to call a spade a spade. There will be no sugarcoating and no special treatment for any reps that I once liked and respected, so let’s get started. Consider me the National Transportation Safety Board examining the wreckage.
Two years ago, we discovered something interesting. If you ask too many questions about Taxpayer-owned Gunstock Resort, huge sums are spent, and pressure is brought to oust anyone in elected or appointed office who asks those questions. Suspicious?
Friday’s mail brought an anonymous missive following regarding the apparent misuse of public funds by outgoing Gunstock General Manager Tom Day, who, it appears, used the Gunstock postage meter for postage to mail some type of personal payment from him to the City of Portland, Maine.
HB1002, as passed by the New Hampshire House, would allow unprincipled municipalities to turn requests for public documents into a revenue stream. It passed the NH House yesterday, after which (at least) two things happened.
There is legislation brewing to take power away from your county delegation and hand it to the county commissioners. It’s probably a response to the Gunstock situation, though it could be anything.
