When our aging site first suffered the ill effects of a link hijacker we did a restore that required backing up a week’s worth of published posts. When it was over I discovered that through no fault but my own (for failing to confirm the exact restore date) we lost days worth of content.
March 26th was erased.
Well, I found them.
Democrats like to talk about “keeping money out of politics.” Well, meet Henry T. Nicholas III, a wealthy Corporate baron. One of those ‘Big’ corporation guys the left ‘hates’ so much. He’s also the brother of Marsalee, the woman for whom Marsy’s Law is named, and the money behind the push to amend the NH Constitution under the cover of “victims rights” reform.
Henry T. x3 has spent several million in New Hampshire already to advance his pet project to the detriment of victims, the constitutional protections of the accused, but that’s peanuts compared to the $29.49 million he has spent on political initiatives over the past nine years.
Well, I do have to admit, the Concord Monitor does get a large diversity of commenters on posts sometimes. No, not the skin-color-deep-facial-features kind of diversity where only looks count. I mean the only diversity that really counts – intellectual and philosophical differences. Dick Lemiuex riled up frequent Progressive CM and Grok commenter, Bruce Currie who wrote (emphasis mine, reformatted):
Mr. Metzger believes, “(New) Hampshire citizens know at a gut level that a property tax is not an equitable way to tax people.” But somehow, he seems to believe we will accept the notion that a car tax IS an equitable way to spread the cost of schools. If equity is the objective, how about “if towns were freed to set their own” head tax? Then, at least a family of 4, with 2 kids in school, would be paying twice as much as a retired couple without kids. That would create at least some link between costs and benefits. Maybe THAT would have more of a “gut level” appeal. Of course that idea wouldn’t appeal to heads of large families. Similarly, Metzger’s idea wouldn’t appeal to owners of high end cars.
The question is, who’s ox is going to be gored? Every tax creates winners and losers.

Why are the New Hampshire Young Republicans getting involved in a Democrat primary in this manner?
Especially when attacking Maura Sullivan now helps Chris Pappas who would be the strongest Democrat candidate in Congressional District 01.
Since late 2017, leading up to today, we’ve written or shared at least twenty-three articles opposing HB628, the so-called Family Medical Leave Act. This makes (at least) twenty-four. Why so many? Until very recently neither the governor nor Republican Majority leadership had made a noise that wasn’t fawning.
And while a recent joint committee vote to ITL the bill has people singing praises, until the floor vote adds a final stake (at least for this session) I’m not convinced it’s dead with good reason.

I think it’s kind of cute that the NH Democrats continue to pretend this had anything to do with offering Family Medical Leave Insurance (FMLI) to New Hampshire Families. Or that Governor Sununu would accept “FMLI” in any form the legislature coughed up.
Here governor, sign this thing that happens to have family medical leave insurance in the name or else we’ll call you names and blame the Koch Brothers.
He didn’t so that’s what they did.
I wonder where this handy bit of information was when the Marxist Women’s March folks were pouring outside money into their national campaign to waste taxpayer dollars. It says that School Walk Outs are NOT protected by the first amendment.
The first priority after surviving a cardiac event is to prevent another one. The cardiac cocktail is a manifold of meds designed to decrease stress on the heart. It’s a muscle, albeit the most important one in your body, but like any other muscle, it needs room to heal. The cardiac cocktail is designed for each patient to optimize both desired outcomes.
Blood thinners, Blood Pressure (BP) meds (lower it), Asprin (another blood thinner), and in my case something to keep the foreign objects (stents) where they belong and something to lower the cholesterol levels in my blood.
That is not a lot of chemistry, but it’s a good bit so what could go wrong?
The mentality of “We are a team with special status” pervades all.
This is what you are up against when it comes to keeping government accountable. One look at “The Swamp” in Washington, DC shows definitively how power, money, and influence alter the way people come to think and behave when they join the team. Even the smallest amount of government power corrupts if you are not careful.
Take the tiny Town of Dummer, NH for instance.
And another Blogline of the Day (ok, a slap at the Democrats and NeverTrumpers at the end). OK, so the private sector, a la Elon Musk, did it by getting paid a lot by the US government. But Musk’s SpaceX cut their costs dramatically with a radically new idea:
In the past, Russian space officials have talked tough about competing with SpaceX in providing low-cost, reliable service to low-Earth and geostationary orbit. For example, the Russian rocket corporation, Energia, has fast-tracked development of a new medium-class launch vehicle that it is calling Soyuz-5 to challenge SpaceX.
On Tuesday, however, Russia’s chief spaceflight official, Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin, made a remarkable comment about that country’s competition with SpaceX.
“The share of launch vehicles is as small as 4 percent of the overall market of space services,” Rogozin said in an interview with a Russian television station. “The 4 percent stake isn’t worth the effort to try to elbow Musk and China aside. Payloads manufacturing is where good money can be made.”
According to an independent analysis, the global launch market is worth about $5.5 billion annually. Losing its half-share of this market, therefore, has probably cost the Russians about $2 billion, which is a significant fraction of its non-military aerospace budget.

Sorry, but the good judge got one thing really wrong – the word “allow” (emphasis mine):
To be sure, many Americans of good faith bemoan the amount of money spent on campaign contributions and political speech. But if you don’t like big money in politics, then you should oppose big government in our lives. Because the former is a necessary consequence of the latter. When government grows larger, when regulators pick more and more economic winners and losers, participation in the political process ceases to be merely a citizen’s prerogative—it becomes a human necessity. This is the inevitable result of a government that would be unrecognizable to our Founders. See, e.g., NFIB v. Sebelius, 567 U.S. 519 (2012).
So if there is too much money in politics, it’s because there’s too much government. The size and scope of government makes such spending essential. See, e.g., EMILY’s List v. FEC, 581 F.3d 1, 33 (D.C. Cir. 2009) (Brown, J., concurring) (“The more power is at stake, the more money will be used to shield, deflect, or co-opt it. So long as the government can take and redistribute a man’s livelihood, there will always be money in politics.”).
I could write about the Union-paid-for anti-gun rally at the NH statehouse today, or how they are protesting alongside the 420 pot rally folks who will also be there, but I decided to post this instead.
Researchers sought to learn whether there was any added risk of driving on April 20 – a recognized day of celebration in the United States among pot enthusiasts – when marijuana use is trumpeted and encouraged and legal sales are noticeably higher. And after examining 25 years of traffic crash data, what they found was a 12 percent increased risk of a fatal car crash taking place that day after 4:20 pm, the unofficial kickoff time of the drug’s holiday.
