HB628 killing the NH AdvantageSince late 2017, leading up to today, we’ve written or shared at least twenty-three articles opposing HB628, the so-called Family Medical Leave Act. This makes (at least) twenty-four. Why so many? Until very recently neither the governor nor Republican Majority leadership had made a noise that wasn’t fawning.

And while a recent joint committee vote to ITL the bill has people singing praises, until the floor vote adds a final stake (at least for this session) I’m not convinced it’s dead with good reason.

Here governor, sign this thing that happens to have family medical leave insurance in the name or else we’ll call you names and blame the Koch Brothers.

The first priority after surviving a cardiac event is to prevent another one. The cardiac cocktail is a manifold of meds designed to decrease stress on the heart. It’s a muscle, albeit the most important one in your body, but like any other muscle, it needs room to heal. The cardiac cocktail is designed for each patient to optimize both desired outcomes.

Blood thinners, Blood Pressure (BP) meds (lower it), Asprin (another blood thinner), and in my case something to keep the foreign objects (stents) where they belong and something to lower the cholesterol levels in my blood.

The US Govt gave up, the Russian Govt took it, and the US Private Sector took it back

In the past, Russian space officials have talked tough about competing with SpaceX in providing low-cost, reliable service to low-Earth and geostationary orbit. For example, the Russian rocket corporation, Energia, has fast-tracked development of a new medium-class launch vehicle that it is calling Soyuz-5 to challenge SpaceX.

On Tuesday, however, Russia’s chief spaceflight official, Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin, made a remarkable comment about that country’s competition with SpaceX.

“The share of launch vehicles is as small as 4 percent of the overall market of space services,” Rogozin said in an interview with a Russian television station. “The 4 percent stake isn’t worth the effort to try to elbow Musk and China aside. Payloads manufacturing is where good money can be made.”

According to an independent analysis, the global launch market is worth about $5.5 billion annually. Losing its half-share of this market, therefore, has probably cost the Russians about $2 billion, which is a significant fraction of its non-military aerospace budget.

I could write about the Union-paid-for anti-gun rally at the NH statehouse today, or how they are protesting alongside the 420 pot rally folks who will also be there, but I decided to post this instead.

Researchers sought to learn whether there was any added risk of driving on April 20 – a recognized day of celebration in the United States among pot enthusiasts – when marijuana use is trumpeted and encouraged and legal sales are noticeably higher. And after examining 25 years of traffic crash data, what they found was a 12 percent increased risk of a fatal car crash taking place that day after 4:20 pm, the unofficial kickoff time of the drug’s holiday.

New Hampshire Democrats Demand More Money For A Problem They Don’t Want to Solve

NH Congressional DelegationNew Hampshire is getting another $3.1 Million to combat the opioid crisis. US News is reporting that New Hampshire’s All Gurl Delegation, Democrat x four, says it is not enough.

New Hampshire’s delegation had urged President Donald Trump’s administration to revise the formula used to allocate funding so it prioritizes states like New Hampshire that are hardest hit by the crisis. But that didn’t happen.

This coming from a gaggle of progressive geese with no real interest in solving “the problem.”

Pointless Passion for a Porn Star

Ever since the last presidential election, Democrats have obsessed over the alleged collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia. For months, they’ve pontificated about some international conspiracy and its damage to our election process. Now that it’s becoming increasingly clear that such a conspiracy never existed, they’ve shifted their attention to President Trump’s character.

In recent weeks, they’ve been focusing on a supposed encounter between Trump and a porn star occurring several years ago. Even more tantalizing for them is a wholly unsubstantiated incident five years ago involving two prostitutes, which was reported in the infamous Steele dossier.

Fired FBI Director, James Comey, is even speculating on the veracity of the dossier, even though he had previously testified that it was never substantiated. Facing his own credibility problems, and free to say whatever pops into his mind, he now echoes the liberal narrative that President Trump is morally unfit for office.

regulationsThat would be “Administrative Law” – laws created and legally enforced (sometimes as felonies) by unelected, unaccountable, and unassailable bureaucrats.  The Competitive Enterprise Institute has a report on how large of an impact this “extra-Constitutional” process of “legislating” has on the average American citizen who, if you haven’t been educated in government schools lately, our forefathers fought a war over “taxation without representation”).  At least then, we knew who was doing what to us.  Now, not so much – if at all.  A sampling of the results:

  • Federal regulations and intervention cost Americans $1.9 trillion in 2017.
  • Federal regulation is a hidden tax that amounts to nearly $15,000 per U.S. household each year, more than Americans spend on any category in their family budget except for housing.
  • In 2017, 97 laws were enacted by Congress during the calendar year, while 3,281 rules were issued by agencies. Thus, 34 rules were issued for every law enacted.
  • If it were a country, U.S. federal regulation would be the world’s eighth-largest economy, ranking behind India and ahead of Italy.
  • Many Americans are concerned about their annual tax burden, but total regulatory costs exceeded the $1.88 trillion the IRS collected in both individual and corporate income taxes in 2017.

AFP-SHARE Tax ReformI speak of the Tax Reform passed at the end of last year in which the Republicans (FINALLY doing something aligned “with our values”) fought the Democrats to do one simple, easy to understand idea: you get to keep more of your hard earned money.  Why is that so anathema to Democrats?  Oh, because they are really Socialists and Government ALWAYS comes before anybody else.  After all, Tax Reform is not just just good for we citizens, it’s doing rather well for the country as a whole (emphasis mine):

Item 1: Kroger announced that it was accelerating wage hikes, increasing the company’s 401(k) match, enhancing benefits, and expanding employee discounts. All, it said, thanks to the Republican tax reforms. Kroger joins more than 500 other companies who’ve extended bonuses, wage hikes, or improved benefits to more than 4 million workers in the wake of the law’s sharp reduction in corporate tax rates.

Sure, shareholders have received a lot of the now freed up money in this “keep your own money to yourself” law.  Why not? They own the company – they took their cash, bought part of a company via their buying shares and expect a good return on their money.  That said, employees demonstrably have received a heck of a lot of money that they otherwise wouldn’t have received.  Yet, Democrat Progressive Nancy Pelosi keeps saying that letting people keep more of their money instead of the Government keeping it is a “tax scam”.  Once again, she lets us all know whose money it should be.
