Yesterday, Nikki Haley and Mike Pompeo announced the United States intention to withdraw from the UN Human Rights Council citing its entrenched bias against Israel and inclusion of “notorious human rights abusers” as members.

U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley, who has sought major changes on the council throughout her tenure, issued a blistering critique of the panel, saying it had grown more callous over the past year and become a “protector of human rights abusers and a cesspool of political bias.” She cited the admission of Congo as a member even as mass graves were being discovered there, and the failure to address human rights abuses in Venezuela and Iran.

The UN Human Rights Council is a joke. The preeminent example of letting wolves “guard” the Hen House.

Seeking Asylum Separates ‘Parents’ From “Children” Especially When You Lie About It

Of the few “children” who cross the border illegally “accompanied” by a parent or family member the most common cause of separation is seeking asylum.

If they just turned around and went home, they’d never have to part with their kids. If they applied to enter legally, they’d never be separated from their kids. But by seeking asylum, they force the government to detain them independently. And because of a decade’s old ruling by the Ninth Circus court of appeals, the US can only detain the kids for 20 days. After that, they have to find a suitable guardian while the asylee is processed (which can take months), separating them further from their kids.

Gov. Sununu Vetoes “Energy” Bills That Would Drive Up Electric Rates

Residential solar installLast week we shared a rumor that Governor Chris Sununu was prepared to veto SB 365 and SB 466. Both pieces of legislation were bipartisan sops to green energy that would drive up our already unreasonably high electric rates.

That rumor is now a fact.

In his veto statement on Tuesday, Sununu said the two bills would cost Granite State ratepayers approximately $100 million over the next three years in higher electricity costs, placing a strain on the elderly, those on fixed incomes and businesses.

SCOTUS Will Hear Case That Could Subject Asset Forfeiture to 8th Amendment

Yesterday, the Supreme Court decided to consider Timbs v. Indiana, an important constitutional property rights case. As my co-blogger Eugene Volokh and Reason’s Damon Root explain, the case will address the question of whether the Excessive Fines Clause of the Eighth Amendment applies against states, as well as the federal government. If the Supreme Court decides that the Clause does apply against the states, it will also have to consider exactly what kinds of fines qualify as “excessive” and to what extent the Clause applies to asset forfeitures, as well as more conventional fines.

NH House of Representatives – No Shows

NH Hall of RepresentativesI’ve been asked on a number of occasions to run for the NH House of Representatives and have turned them down because of work responsibilities.  There was just no way to be able to keep my job AND do the job of a NH Rep correctly and fully. Plus, for full disclosure, when I ran for elective office in my hamlet, I promised the TEMW that I’d never run for higher office (and even though I tried my hardest ever this year, when I asked to be let out of my promise, the response was “the look” – yes, I was doomed from the start.

Sadly, a lot of these folks, mostly Republicans at the top of the Chart of No-Show Shame, should have been doomed as well as certainly the voters that spent their previous Votes on them got hoodwinked:

“The politicization of everything”

Concord_Monitor_logoBill Bunker, a conservative commentor over at the Concord Monitor (yes, there are a few!) actually had an Op-Ed piece published by said paper by the name above (reformatted, emphasis mine):

…Politics spills into every aspect of our society, including sports, entertainment, faith, education and even corporate America. No aspect of our lives is immune from toxic political sewage spewing from those with an agenda, ideology and thirst for power. What brings fans together at a sporting event is the game. Uniting behind our favorite team, we find common ground and sameness. We can be of a different race, economic class, gender, politics or faith, and we meet on common ground. Politics has eroded and is ruining that tiny bit of unity.

Athletes and media outlets like ESPN abuse their powerful celebrity pulpit, destroying what little common unity many of us have left. Subtle suggestions of our supposed racism and sexism in Super Bowl ads is a prime example of politics permeating the institution of sports and pitting one fan against the other.

I spent a relaxing afternoon wandering around town, observing. This was not my first visit to Copenhagen and my personal impression is that the people here are freer than Americans, at least in some ways. So let’s see.

CNN NewsOne of the televisions at Cardiac Rehab was on CNN this morning. The volume is down (thank the Lord), but it has closed captioning, so you can read (or not) what’s important to the Leader in Fake News. It’s all about “separating families.” The whole time I was there.

CNN is, not unexpectedly, all in and 100% focused on propagandizing a Democrat party talking point. Did I say not unexpectedly?

SCOTUS Wont End Gerrymandering

Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr., writing for the court, said it wasn’t enough to claim that Wisconsin’s districts were drawn to favor one party or another. The plaintiffs needed to prove they individually were unable to vote for a credible candidate of their choice because of the gerrymander.

As Grok Prepares To Take it to the Next Level It’s Time to See Where We Rank With Alexa

alexa traffic rankBefore we were hacked in April GraniteGrok climbed up the Alexa Rankings (for Online news or media sites in New Hampshire) to do battle with the top 5. The redirect did some damage to that, and we almost dropped out of the top ten.

That was not great, and we’ve written about the redirects that plagued readers, but some good has come out of it. We amped up the fundraising and our new Web site, which Skip lovingly refers to as Grok 3.0, is under construction. The new security is a lot better and we’ve got some very serious plans for this platform that will, yes literally, take us to the next level.

So what level are we on now? I asked Alexa’s ranking where we stood in the New Hampshire Political/News interwebs and here’s what I learned.
