That’s the lesson we are to absorb without question from the next part of The Writer’s missive.
Again, while there is the element of truth in “Primary voters select the nominees” what wasn’t mentioned in the politics that goes on behind the scenes. Sure, there are a number of NH GOP officials that are not supposed to openly take sides in a primary. Those of us that watch these kinds of races in details have seen how thumbs often come down on the scales. Help is slow in coming from above, the “word” goes out about candidates to stay away from giving to certain candidates. Popular activists that are desired to be on candidates staff are “warned” about their future.
Politics ain’t beanbags (as the saying goes) and the politics ARE high as the because so are the stakes.
After watching these kinds of races closes for well over a decade, and while I will admit that being just an ordinary schlub from Central New Hampsha that I don’t know everything, I know that the glasses on my nose often correct my lyin’ eyes. I’ve heard what people say and I’ve watched the actions that people do. A nod here, a shake there, a deliberately missed conversation, a shrug of the shoulders, the “blank” face, the deer-in-headlights” when asked a very specific question, phone calls are very curtly answered or not returned at all, or the “he just walked away when he saw me”.
And a couple of times, it was rather blatant. Remember, not only do I (and other Groksters) see stuff, we’re told stuff as well. Over the years while there may not be any OFFICIAL “picking”, the pattern of the data points over a long time line says otherwise. Is it all the time and in a lot of cases?
No, it isn’t – but it does occur. It has been clear when “hand-picking” has been done (and glorious to watch when The Chosen One is cast aside by the insurgent – especially in the “slump of the shoulders” when the result becomes known to The Anointer” – heh!).
To make the innuendo that it doesn’t happen “officially” is disingenuous to reality.
Oh, and that “We have to teach the Republicans a lesson, so they’ll give us better nominees” bit? Just go back to the lamentations of the first post in this series. This could be called “not learning from reality”. If you aren’t winning, you can’t blame the electorate in toto.
