Ayup. Er, no. That was Trent Spiner, Executive Editor of the Union Leader telling me that, like in Animal House, ALL IS WELL! Nothing to see here….move along. It went up a while ago. Again, nope. I started to get that feeling someone was trying to do a stonewall stand. Open and transparent? If that were true, the following didn’t have to be written:

This is the 46th of my letters as your Representative. Everyone has an opinion regarding schools and education in Franklin. I spoke at a City Council meeting last week and attended a meeting on the schools but I want to talk about how some people prepare to serve as a legislator and what you can do to be an informed NH citizen.
My wife interviewed a young, former State Representative who gave his story about his preparation. He began his study with the founding documents, the US Constitution, the New Hampshire Constitution, and the Declaration of Independence. He realized there were many references to other documents so he read Bible and then he went to the Federalists Papers and Anti-Federalist Papers, Black’s Law Dictionary, Bastiat’s The Law, and de Toqueville’s Democracy in America. Now this seems like overkill. But upon reflection perhaps it was because he was serious about his role and probably because he was home schooled.

That’s my latest sampling of how many days it took the National Guard to federally recognize the promotions of its servicemembers after those promotions had already been fully approved by their state command. Just to be clear: these officers start doing the work of their new rank the day their promotions are approved – they just don’t get the pay increase or the time-in-grade credit until the Washington bureaucracy processes the papers.
Like I’ve been saying lately, I get stuff from all over and from a lot of people. Including a lot of Democrats. You see, they all think I can be influenced because I’m a “registered Independent”. Go ahead and chortle over that one – I’ll wait.
So, the US Senator from MA, Elizabeth “You didn’t build that” Warren sends me a LOT of emails. Funny that, so do a lot of other Democrats; most of their names also keep being shoved into the Prez Wannabee mirror machine. But I digress. So Warren sent the above (in part) to me back on July 4th (full email after the jump)
So, she’s railing against the ineffectiveness of Government. Big Government. A Big, Sprawling, Paper Overridden, Slow as Molassas Government. Imagine that….oh wait!
Huh? A rant from this Uber of Ubberest-Progressives (not many Progressives are to her Left, except perhaps that ninny 28 year old from the Bronx, but that’s another post)??? So I wrote back:
If you search ‘Woke’ in the urban dictionary you’ll find several possibilities the amalgam of which is this. Abrupt or sudden awareness of (something) …that turns you into an annoying little douchebag.
I may have embellished a bit but not much.
The concept of ‘Woke’ is a byproduct of cultural marxism wielded by stompy-footed triggered social justice snowflakes so they can shout things like ‘Get Woke!’ #StayWoke to make them feel superior. But “woke” as a concept is not about enlightenment or understanding. In fact, it is the opposite.
It looks like the economy has managed to push aside the smothering pillow of Obamanomics.
The Commerce Department reported Friday that the economy grew at a pace of 4.1 percent in the second quarter, propelled by consumer spending in another win for Mr. Trump’s policies of lower taxes and fewer regulations.
The growth was the fastest since 2014, following first-quarter growth of 2.2 percent that was revised up from 2 percent.
The suffocating “cultural” blanket of Obamanomics is wearing thin as well.
The squiggly line (because it’s not an arc) of the Left’s Russia Rantings run from Trump was never spied on you dolt to well, of course, he was spied on you dolt. Along the path (that squiggly line) are a series of media reports filled with details that reporters should not have. Details that were leaked to the press, which happens to be a felony.
In related news, the White House announced this week that it might strip a number of former officials of their security clearance. Yes. The two things are probably connected.
As I said in the last issue in this Tales from the BudComm series, I became real concerned when freshman Joe Wernig first said, and then Chair Sean Murphy assented, that we weren’t supposed to be changing GL accounts – the line items in the “recommendations” (verbiage from RSA 32) that the School District / Municipality give to the BudComm. The troublesome verbiage in the transcript is after the jump.
So this past meeting, I decided to pin Sean Murphy down on his assent on Wernig’s supposition that changing any amount is MicroManagement and that’s no our job. Either we do change the GL Line item amounts because we think that the recommendations are too high (or too low), or what are we doing is a farce and waste of time. And I told him that. Here’s the snippet from the hour long meeting when Sean Murphy recognized me during the meeting to raise the issue.
On Tuesday, August 14, at 6 pm, there will be a discussion about school funding at Richards Elementary School in Newport. The discussion, which will center around a report created by the (recently shuttered) New Hampshire Center for Public Policy Studies, will be led by Executive Councilor Andru Volinksy, and John Tobin.
(You’ll remember them as the attorneys who helped the New Hampshire Supreme Court conclude that it is ‘essential to the preservation of a free government’ to give that government a monopoly on education… relying on a constitutional article that says it’s the government’s job to protect the public from monopolies.)

The NHGOP recently held scheduled an event at a venue owned by a notorious Democrat donor. Skip took them to the woodshed. They didn’t care for that. In one email exchange he forwarded to me from someone who sounds like they are inside the State Republican Party (or carry their water) we got this response.
I really try to wrap my head around the circular firing squad we so often engage. I get we like to fight for what’s right, but instead of just fighting for fighting’s sake, I wish it were channeled against our common foe.
Help me out here? Who exactly is this common foe? How do we recognize them?
Citing the fact that US law makes no mention anywhere of the Obama-era term ‘Undocumented,’ the Trump Administration will use the legal term ‘Illegal Alien’ and/or their country of origin to describe them.
The word “undocumented” is not based in U.S. code, and should not be used to describe someone’s illegal presence in the country.

Democrat congressional incumbent Ann(ie) Kuster has nearly three million cash on hand. And she’ll have more.
Her competitors have nothing by comparison. And no, this is not a new development. Democrat Incumbent Kuster has always had exponentially more cash to spend on elections than her competitors.
It’s not indicative of anything other than that she is there and entrenched in the swamp, doing swampy things that make lobbyist cronies smile.

Some of you already know the outcome of the Union Leader claiming, with no basis whatsoever, that “leaders of GraniteGrok” were already behind Andy Sanborn in the NH CD-1. That would be me and as I said here, that’s an assumption that Kevin Landrigan, crack political reporter with decades of experience, made. We all know what Ass-u-me means, don’t we?
For those that don’t, let me put out the email trail.
A good friend of the Grok recently shared my post on how Tax reform is not just about money; it is about trust. He posted it as a status update on the Closed Group ‘Brookline NH Elections’ on Facebook. He got this response.
Keith F. Thompson: “The tax cut for ordinary Americans is temporary, while the tax cuts for corporations and the very wealthy are permanent. “Average” Americans have already seen their tax cuts disappear like vapor. Inflation, cuts in services, a MASSIVE increase in the deficit, and now, chaos from this maniacal trade war. My tax cut was smaller, and didn’t survive the rise in gas prices.”
Here’s what I offered in response.
Led by Marie Kondo, a wave of tidying up is sweeping the nation. People everywhere are going through their belongings, posing some simple tests, and getting rid of the items that fail those tests.
In Ms. Kondo’s case, the test is: Does this item spark joy? If it does, you keep it. If not, you thank it for being part of your life, and send it on its way (to a friend, or a thrift shop, or Goodwill, or the transfer station).
In the case of some ‘minimalists’, the test is: If you didn’t already have this item, would you buy it again? If not, get rid of it.
I think this latter attitude may be the key to getting the Republican party to regain its focus on its primary purpose: preserving the republic.

I’ve been coming to New Hampshire since I was 3 years old and I’ve lived full-time in Hancock for the past 10 years. I know this state; we are famous for our Yankee ingenuity, our work ethic, our frugality with a dollar, our community service and our willingness to help a neighbor in need. We love our woods, water and wildlife and the clean air we breathe and the fresh water we drink. Yet, even with all these advantages, our towns are slipping behind in some key areas that concern me, and I believe we can do better.
Again, I get stuff. Last Thursday, the Cheshire County Republican Committee held a debate for the Republicans vying to be the NH GOP victor in the primary in September for CD-2. What was brought to my attention was this line (video starts at 11:45 into the event):
“Government’s job is to provide opportunity for all of us.”
Let that sink in for a second.
