Anonymous Allegations?

Concord Monitor is deleting comments to stories about people who comment there on taxpayer timeOver at the Concord Monitor web site, someone going by the name of ItsaRepublic, has been doing some very heavy lifting for GraniteGrok.  They have gone to bat for us on our investigation of Public Employees who have been using the Monitor’s web site, during office hours, at taxpayer expense.  Not exactly a friendly environment to promote anything we do here, but we appreciate the effort.

And as I have pointed out previously, the Monitor had begun letting those sorts of comments stand (where in the past they had been known to ‘moderate’ them out of existance), and letting the debate take it’s bi-partisan course.   But when it comes to allowing links back to GranitGrok articles on the investigation itself, a CM Moderator has explained why they wont be doing that any time soon…

The Senate approved S. 2367 by unanimous consent, giving the House a chance to act if it wishes, although no House member has introduced a similar bill.

…The word “lunatic” appears in the U.S. Code in Title 1, Chapter 1, which covers rules of construction. Chapter 1 holds that when determining the meaning of any law, “the words ‘insane’ and ‘insane person’ and ‘lunatic’ shall include every idiot, lunatic, insane person, and person non compos mentis.”

Filling a vacancy on any Supreme Court–be it the US Supremes or the NH Supremes–is a big deal, so it is no surprise that people are talking and reporting on it (as we have here, here, and here).  So did the Union Leader;  Ted Seifer interviewed Tim, asking him about the NHLRF‘s position on Gov. John Lynch’s nominee for the NH Supreme Court, Jim Basssett.   Having gotten the link from a friend I decided to read the piece and this caught my eye:

From the “Dragging him over the line” notebook – well, he’s got this Education point right.

In 2008, I was not the most thrilled to have John McCain to be the Republican nominee, at least until I was able to say “Yeah, I voted for Sarah Palin and the old white guy”.  At that time, however, I had a bad premonition about what an Obama Presidency would bring (yeah, I pretty much had it right as the future-now-history shows).  This time, it is Mitt Romney as the Republican nominee and once again, it’s back to “drag that candidate over the line” as the excitement for me for his candidacy just isn’t there.  It is back to the “vote against the other guy”, for if Obama is given a second term, the America that the Founders envisioned with respect to limited government and an emphasis on individual freedom may well be never seen again.

However, this from a speech that Romney gave today gave me a little smile:

First, I will expand parental choice in an unprecedented way.  Too many of our kids are trapped in schools that are failing or simply don’t meet their needs.  And for too long, we’ve merely talked about the virtues of school choice.

As President, I will give the parents of every low-income and special needs student the chance to choose where their child goes to school.  For the first time in history, federal education funds will be linked to a student, so that parents can send their child to any public or charter school, or to a private school, where permitted.  And I will make that choice meaningful by ensuring there are sufficient options to exercise it.

Attention NH House….HB 1704 – It’s Still A Trap!

NH HB1704 is still a trapThe New Hampshire Senate has passed a “revised” version of HB1704, the amended, re-amended, amended version of what was once a perfectly functional campaign finance reform bill from the New Hampshire House that is now little more than a piece of crap with a bow on it.  Or perhaps more accurately described, it is an acceptable left wing baby-step toward silencing political speech, facilitated by progressives, under the cover of “election transparency,” at the hands of a Republican Legislature.

The House needs to strip it back down to it’s roots or kill it and here’s why: The Coalition for Open Democracy.

The Coalition for Open Democracy has promoted and supported the amended versions of the bill and this should set off some alarms because the Coalition for Open Democracy claims to be “a nonpartisan coalition of organizations and individuals dedicated to ensuring integrity, transparency and efficiency in political and legislative processes in New Hampshire and the nation.”   What they actually are is a patchwork of left wing organizations, run by progressives, pretending to be non-partisan, pushing the Democrat campaign finance agenda to counter or if possible undo any or all of the advances made by the US Supreme Courts Citizen United decision.  And they’ll do it one tiny bit at a time if they have to.

So HB1704 is being used to move the issue a step or two to the left to establish a base from which to execute the next step or two to the left.  Put more simply… It’s a trap!!
