John Hawkins from RightWingNews has been a friend to GraniteGrok right from the start as he was one of the first of the national blogs ever to link us up. Then, he was a constant and valued guest on Meet The New Press through out its run and I finally got to meet him in person a couple of years ago at RightOnline.
So when I read his goodbye post to his beloved Patton, I have to admit – being a dog person, I teared up for his loss of Patton.
It is never easy to say goodbye, and when it was time for Gypsy, Tasha, and Tyson, it was heartbreaking – and not an easy decision to ever make for loyal companions and friends. Sure, you think – just another four footed animal that can be underfoot at the wrong time, wants to go out at inappropriate times of the morning (like 3am), bark like crazy at a leaf falling as you’re talking to a customer on the phone, ruining a post that you’ve spent hours trying to wordsmith right by deciding your trackball is better operated by their long nose and then stepping all over the keyboard, and jumping up on the table and snatching your New York Sirlon steak that was meant for your dinner party (the Chinese take out was a bust replacement).
But what better friend when one of those dismal, horrible times along – because they don’t care what’s actually wrong. All they can sense is that you need a friend RIGHT THEN AND THERE as they jump up into your lap, nuzzle your hand, or just lay on your feet as if to say “hey, I’m here for you”.
And they are. My condolences to you, John.
