Carol Is Still Batting .980

Carol “98%” Shea Porter surprised several people when she offered to co-sponsor HR 1207, the Audit the Fed Resolution.  The bill, sponsored by Republican Ron Paul would require an audit of the not so independent “independent” central bank.

The hobgoblins who run the Fed were not interested in an audit for obvious reasons.  As the manipulators of monetary policy they were and are responsible for trying to manage the boom bust cycle or more appropriately (and more likely) causing it. But they were still part of the government, so for Carol to step up and make even a token gesture was unexpected.

Or was it?

Carol’s rhetoric—or at least the local party rhetoric—is that Carol is an independent voice for New Hampshire, but in reality she is a committed partisan meat puppet.  Open Congress.org shows her following her party 98% of the time.  I’ve not seen a single measure where she is not voting with her party at least 95% to 96% of the time.  So no one will be alarmed when I say that Carol was not the first one at the “audit the fed” Clam Bake.

That was in June of last year.  Travel forward in time to June 2010 and the situation has changed.  HR 1207 could have been tacked on to HB 4173, the democrats so called Wall street reform bill, but Carol "Independent voice” Shea Porter couldn’t find her spine when it came time to vote because Nancy Pelosi keeps it locked up in the dungeon under her office.  In a completely partisan vote (despite bi-partisan opposition) the democrats killed the resolution 198-229 co-sponsorship be damned.

Carol has again demonstrated who she will go to bat for.  The democrat party leadership.

She was probably goaded into co-sponsorship with dozens of other liberals who needed a lift in the face of the rising and unpopularity of the stimulus and the emerging Health care debate so the leadership yelled "climb aboard."  They milked that emaciated heifer until the time came to "jump ship" and Carol did as she was told.  And while that may make a few democrats happy, more than 60% of her district is something other than democrat, and auditing the fed is anything but a partisan issues, unless there is something else they are trying to hide besides partisan hackery.
