The Case for Nurse Terese, Part 2.

In my previous article, I discussed the earliest candidate slate members for the executive council seat being vacated by the retirement of Ted Gatsas.  I elaborated on Ryan Terrell and have been asking some questions behind the scenes and even emailed Scanlan.

He’s Back … Will GOP Voters Hand An Executive Council Seat To The Democrats?

Ted Gatsas had barely turned his horse and begun to ride off into the sunset when … LOOK AT ME! LOOK AT ME! EVERYBODY LOOK AT ME!!! perpetual candidate and perpetual general-election loser Robert Burns politi-bombed the scene. The question now becomes will GOP voters in Gatsas’ Executive Council District hand the seat to the Democrats by nominating the clearly unelectable Burns.

The Case for Nurse Terese (for Executive Council).

Sometimes, I choose a title, and that’s how it’s published. Sometimes, management alters it at its discretion. Sometimes, I submit a piece and call it “untitled,” thus letting the editor finish the job for me. There are a variety of reasons and one of them has to do with the enjoyment of pretending I’m Howie Carr or Ed Mosca, but today’s literary inspiration is Victor Davis Hanson.

Safe Station in Manchester Needs to be Reevaluated

Manchester’s Safe Station initiative has always drawn these kinds of numbers of people from out of the city. This is nothing new. What is concerning, however, is that it appears as if the state’s program might actually be referring people to the city.

That Time the Mayor Joyce Campaign Called the GOP a Seven-Letter Word for a Body-Part (Caution – Graphic Language)

This: The “Young” (I suppose that it is a sign of the times that “young” means up to 40 years old) Democrats subsequently deleted this tweet. But it speaks volumes about the Mayor Joyce campaign. If you dare question Mayor Joyce’s narrative that she has personally turned Manchester into Disneyland from the Tijuana that it … Read more

EmptyChair

I’m now betting that the NH GOP wished Jane Cormier had won

I’m speaking of the race now between Ted “The Empty Chair” Gatsas, who beat Jane in the primary, and Democrat Gray Chynoweth for NH Executive Council.   (reformatted, emphasis mine): The debate over debates has infiltrated the open seat for Executive Council that Pappas is leaving to run for Congress, the 4th District. Democratic nominee and Manchester … Read more

Executive Council District 4: “I don’t need to do anything to win because I’m Ted Gatsas!” – Part 3

“what can you do for Ted instead of what Ted will do for you”

Because he isn’t telling you.  And if he isn’t willing to tell you, what is your answer to this question: “Can I not worry about how he will vote because I don’t know what he stands for?“

That’s how I ended up with my last post – what does Ted Gatsas believe in? We dunno, or at least I don’t.  I’m quite sure there is a set of issues or a set of beliefs somewhere.  After all, he’s had a long political career here in NH: state senator, mayor (wanted to be Guv). Perhaps those websites said what he thought were the issues of the day and what he’d do about them – then. Now? As the Executive Councilor for District 4?  Not a whisper, not a word, not a syllable.  I don’t think one can say “Transparency” in the political world where there’s nothing there to be transparent about.

I intimated this earlier – WHERE is the Issues page on Ted’s site?  Answer:

Executive Council District 4: “I don’t need to do anything to win because I’m Ted Gatsas!” – Part 2

“HAVE A QUESTION FOR TED OR AN IDEA FOR THE CITY OF MANCHESTER?

Previous post on Ted Gatsas insularity here.  I say that because it turns out that I haven’t been the only one trying to reach out to their campaign to arrange a debate between him and Jane Cormier.  Same result – no answers or blow offs.  You’d think that the Gatsas campaign, with all of his experience as a former NH State Senator, a former Manchester Mayor, and a former Republican candidate for Governor, he would be enthusiastic to show his expertise.  C’est la – I guess it isn’t to be.  The silence is deafening.

In my last post, I posited ““what can you do for Ted instead of what Ted will do for you”. Well, that may be true as his website as I said before, is rather slim of details.  How slim, you might ask? Let’s look at the front page of his website, shall we?

Executive Council District 4: “I don’t need to do anything to win because I’m Ted Gatsas!”

That seems to be it: throw a bunch of high priced plate fundraisers and an empty website.  Do YOU know what Ted Gatsas is for or against if you didn’t happen to watch a snippet on WMUR?  Can you find out what ANY of his stances are? Methinks it’s a case of snobbery – “I’m Ted Gatsas – just vote for me”.

GrokDebates – yes, we want to do them. We ARE going to do them going forward

Over the years, GraniteGrok has made it part of our Citizen Journalism to cover debates.  One reason is that we like listening (and critiquing) who was there, what was said, and to determine their political philosophies with respect to the NH Constitution, US Constitution, and to date, the NH GOP. We did debates, and covered them in unique ways, that the mainstream press just couldn’t or wouldn’t.  Part of the later is either just a lack of time (on TV News) or space (newspaper “inches” or word counts.  We, on the other hand, have neither limitation.

We also covered debates that they didn’t – they (and often the NH GOP) are only interested in the top of the ticket races: Governor, US Congress, US Senate.  The other races?

Pound sand.  Well, no longer. I’ve been yakking about taking GraniteGrok to the “next” level – debates will be part of that.  While we will still cover other folks’ debates, we believe it is time to do our own.  And we shall.

Have You Seen Me? Selective Vanishing of Campaign Signs Seems Suspicious.

Someone appears to be taking Jane Cormier’s Campaign signs but not the signs of her primary opponent. I mean, they’re right next to each other. One day they are both there, neither blocking the view of the other and the next – Jane’s sign is gone.

DOT doesn’t have them so who is taking them from high traffic areas and what do they have against Jane going to Concord to save taxpayers a little money?

Did Mayor Gatsas Kick The Can Down The Road?

rusty canOn April 11th I swung for the fences in regard to remarks by Manchester Mayor Ted Gatsas and his desire to get some benefits concessions from the Teachers union to free up money in the budget..for education.  In the course of those remarks I pointed out how the Mayor had boasted about an agreement with the Manchester police and that he was just looking for something similar from the Teachers union.

A day or two after I published the post I received some intersting correspondence about that agreement with the Manchester Police; that while the union had made some very public benefits concessions there may have been other deals in the contract that could cost taxpayers even more down the road.  The unions may have actually come out ahead.

Mayor Gatsas Goes after The “Benfit Plan One-Percenters” in Manchester

oil rig - theres another 'resource' we have to tap
There’s A Public Sector “Resource” That We Need to Tap…

Manchester Mayor Ted Gatsas is singing a tune we like to hear and one that I have advocated for myself.  What is it?  Hidden in the Cadillac plans of public sector employees is a revenue resource that must be tapped.

Gatsas is standing up for taxpayers, and defending the spending cap, in his negotiations with the Teachers union with regard to Manchester’s School budget.

He said teachers still enjoy plans with zero deductibles, $5 co-pays and $50 charges for emergency room visits, while the police union, among others, recently made concessions to avoid layoffs, shifting to a plan with higher co-pays, deductibles and $150 per emergency room visit.

“With the $3 million in savings, we hired more police officers,” Gatsas said.

So why can’t the teachers do the same thing?  It’s a great question.

Sullivan’s Manchester Problem

I must confess to a feeling of near bi-partisan enthusiasm when I glanced at the headline to Kathy Sullivan’s Tuesday morning UL Column—“Why Municipal executives records must be kept public.”  Without having yet read it thoughts of typing up one of the rarest of blog posts, one in which I can say without reservation that … Read more
