In my day, the helping professions such as teaching and policing were generally populated by those realizing satisfaction in helping and protecting others. Like today, however, there were always a few individuals whose personalities were a poor professional fit.

If you give a man a fish, he has to come back when he needs another fish. If you teach a man to fish, he has to come back when he needs to learn something else. Why not teach the man how to learn?
As I have said countless times, Government schools truly believe that your kids really aren’t yours – the kids, ALL kids, belong to them. I’ve heard teachers say it. I’ve heard administrators say it. Sometimes by nuance and sometimes straight out (a “gaffe” as it is called).
As a former local Budget Committee member, I can tell you that the phrase “it’s for the children” is a complete lie – it’s really for the adults in the teachers union.”
Years ago I saw a survey by parents that indicated they preferred their children attending a local public school using a traditional model where their children were taught by great teachers. I think most everyone would agree with that, even when they opt for a private school.
For those of us around at that time, what teacher’s unions are hinting at sounds like “PATCO” more and more. If you weren’t, that refers to the Federal air traffic controllers that tried to call then-President Reagan’s bluff. By law, they couldn’t strike; they did anyways. They lost – he fired them all.
If you were thinking about spinning up a private or charter school on the fly, Vermont is ripe for picking. A majority of Superintendents said they wouldn’t be able to open public schools before Sept 8th. Why? They are not convinced they will have the staff or teachers to “do school.”
A majority of parents want their kids to go to school. To the school, every day, like it used to be. The teacher’s unions, repeating the Democrat Party narrative, are holding those kids hostage; if they think parents have not noticed, they could be in for an electoral surprise.
I’ve been putting up “Man in the street” interviews ever since our humble beginnings. And I am never surprised by how illiterate young people are about our history and how the Government (which DEPENDS on citizens knowing its form) works.
