Lloyd believes that all accidents can be eliminated. Except he lives in Toronto, Canada so that would make him either be Liberal or Socialist. Either name still means the same thing – Big Government forcing decisions upon the rest of us to “make us safer.”
Personal Responsibility
Promoted from the Comments: Bruce Currie – On Abortion; willingly lie to slander Conservatives and make political points
I think that anyone that has read GraniteGrok on even a semi-regular basis knows that I’m against abortion. A word that sums up what really is an anthema: the killing of innocent babies in the womb either by chemical reactions or tearing them limb from limb. And then crow about the bastardization and redefinition of … Read more
So, how DO I get started?
Lots of people are moving from “I vote” to “How do I get more active? How do I get started?” It can be rather bewildering (even though it may seem rather straightforward). I got an email from a new reader asking this very question (emphasis mine):
Bill Would Grant Biological Fathers Veto Power Over Abortion
I’m betting that newly elected NH State Rep Edward “Ned” Gordon(R) (currently the Chair of the Judiciary Committee; who knows if it will become “former” after tomorrow’s Leadership meeting) would be in favor of this given that he threw in with the Democrats in voting against every Pro-Life bill and aborted them all.
“Take Care of Me!” Is an Expectation That Is Quickly Turning Into a Demand”
Many conservatives are nostalgic for a time when personal responsibility, self-sufficiency, hard work, Free Speech, Freedom of Religion, and a whole host of things formerly “American values” were valued.
“Don’t comply with COVID guidelines out of ignorance”
It’s summer time again. As expected, it is hot, but if it was -10° we would complain because it’s human nature to want something different than what we have at the present. We were brought up to question and resist compliance. We should challenge the status quo and authorities. Sure, in the end we may have to comply with rational and reasonable laws, but not out of ignorance. My wife has coined a phrase: We were the “Live Free or Die” state, but with COVID we quickly became the “Live to Comply” state.
Give Golf a chance!
One understands the tendency of elected and appointed officials to err on the side of caution when it comes to public policy and pandemics. One also understands the concept of social distancing, quarantines, flattening the curve, and minimizing the risks associated with COVID-19.
Illiberal Left Excludes Freedom Loving People
The statistics showing who gets abortions do not prevent movements like #ShoutYourAbortion from claiming the name liberal. Lindy West, Amelia Bonow, and Kimberly Morrison started this particular social media campaign. They have been widely publicized. How sad is that? Black women should understand the CDC says there are proportionally 5.7 times as many abortions in … Read more
MLK Votes Republican Today
The premise American universities have dangerously devolved into institutions of political indoctrination. They ought to be institutions of higher learning. A recent study of the 60 highest rated liberal arts colleges in the nation found more than 10 professors are registered Democrats for every registered Republican. That means something. Perhaps it means politicization of universities … Read more
Town Meeting Tomorrow
For many, if not most of us, tomorrow is Town Meeting day where we vote on school and town budgets, local government officials, planning and zoning regulations. Town meeting is government up-close and personal and is where of many us fail to effectively use our voices and our votes. Town meeting is where things like … Read more
Liberal Policies and Culture Increased Newtown Death Toll
What horrible events occurred today! The parents and Newtown Connecticut community must be wondering if they can endure the pain. Obviously our hearts go out to the families and community.
Already leftists are crying for more gun control. A rational person would look at the number of murders in Washington, DC or New York City or Chicago with their strict anti-gun laws and wonder why anyone thinks more gun control would have helped. It is amazing that almost all mass murders happen in “gun free zones”. Apparently murders don’t care about breaking into the gun free zones, who could have imagined that?
There are two nearly universal laws regarding guns. First, when danger strikes and seconds count, the police are minutes away. Second, criminals will always be able to get guns. The only real question is whether innocent people might be armed and able to defend themselves? Studies show that when the answer is no, there will be more crime and more deaths, and when the answer is yes, there is less crime and fewer deaths.
Skip, Freedom Is The Symptom, The People The Cause
Skip, true. It is about freedom, but there’s more to it than that. I would suggest that state encroachment on individual liberties is a symptom of the problem and not the problem itself. It’s about the people. It’s about people willing to cede their liberty and freedom to a faceless bureaucrat in exchange for the illusion of safety, for a handout, or both. It’s the values that people hold that they place themselves as a pet of the state; they willingly devolve themselves into the Burkean “flies of a summer”.
We’ve raised generations steeped in state dependency, and now we see the result of this societal mistake when there’s a problem. When there’s a problem or a challenge, the first reaction of too many people is to call in the Department of Personal Responsibility Absolution to handle it. They believe that they themselves are uncapable of handling the problem, that it’s somebody else’s responsibility. If there are poor people, the government should handle it. If there are sick people, government should handle it. Elderly, the government should care for them.
2012 Presidential Primary – Mitt Romney, again, but a -20
Instead of the +1 he got here, this is a -20 for a bad attempt at doing what Liberals do – redefining language for merely scoring political points. The Hill has a quote from Mitt Romney that I’ve been hearing for a while now, and I frankly think it’s a crock:
“I’m happy to stand by the things that I believe. I’m not going to change my positions by virtue of being in a presidential campaign,” Romney said. “What we did was right for the people of Massachusetts, the plan is still favored there by 3 to 1 and it is fundamentally a conservative principle to insist that people take personal responsibility as opposed to turning to government for giving out free care.”
Such a silver tongue. He’s been hit so hard on RomneyCare being the progenesis of ObamaCare he’s punch drunk. No one believes him when he said that just because he created an individual mandate at the State level, it doesn’t matter as it is different than the one in ObamaCare since the Constitution covers ObamaCare (a Federal action) but not Obamneycare (at the State level). Rubbish! While indeed Obamacare will (or should) be judged unconstitutional, philosophically, there is not a whit of difference with what Obama signed into law vs what Mitt signed into law. Philosophically, we have the State (be it at the Federal or State level) forcing people to buy something they otherwise would not. If these stand, we no longer have the limited government that the Founders wanted. And Mitt’s answer is a dodge, and a lame one at that.
Protestors of New NH House Budget
To the Editor:
Those protesting the new House budget in Concord last week have one thing in common, they want NH taxpayers to open their wallets for their personal benefit.
Most protesters were public employees demanding no changes to their cushy, secure, low stress, highly compensated (compared to similar private sector) jobs, nor to the corrupt system that maintains their great jobs, benefits, and consequently grows the cost of government .
Landmark Ruling?
It is never a good idea to expect any kind of consistency in the application of rulings by your State Supreme Court but in this case they did and I have to wonder what the broader applications could be?
The New Hampshire State Supreme Court dismissed a lawsuit in which a golfer sued a golf course because he got hit in the eye by his own shot (off a yard marker).
Dan Tuohy, correspondent for the Union Leader reports today that Paul F. Sanchez does not have a case against Candia Woods Golf Course, which is mundane until you read the language used by the court to explain its dismissal.
