Democrats – Party of No…Budget

debt -generational debt that isHarry Reid has been told to keep things from reaching Mr. Obama’s desk that might make Obama look bad.   So for over 1000 days the Democrats have avoided passing a budget.  The House has sent them plenty of budget related items, complete budgets, budget measures, spending and revenue measures, all dead or dying in the Senate, where Democrats own the landscape.

What’s that?  It’s the Republicans fault we don’t have a budget?  Sorry, that just aint so.

You can’t filibuster the budget. The Congressional Budget Act of 1974 stipulates that debate is automatically cut off after 50 hours of debate. At that point, a budget can be passed by a simple majority, 51 votes. Democrats currently hold 53 seats in the Senate. They can pass a budget on a simple party-line vote.

You might ask yourself why, when the Democrats had the votes for two years, and both Houses, they refused to pass a budget?

NRA – a very timid step, but are they finally getting the big picture??

NRA grassroots email alertsAs an former NRA member, I still get their NRA-ILA alerts and I am always figuring that this is the indication of what they are thinking concerning the “big” picture.  After all, a couple of years now when the Dems were pushing the DISCLOSE act that would have restricted Free Speech, the NRA was silent.  Absolutely silent – and that in and of itself created a fire storm from both conservative grassroots and from their own membership akin to “Are you guys flippin’ morons??  You CANNOT just concentrate on protecting just the Second Amendment (the right to bear arms) if they take away your First!”

The NRA kept saying that they were a one issue group (as if that was a sufficient), so that’s why they wouldn’t be speaking out on that issue.  Period – and in my mind, given what they could have brought to bear, a cop-out of the first degree.  That is also why I am an ex-NRA member, because unless you are willing to protect it all, you will lose your one issue.  A particular section of a wall cannot stand on its own and be effective if the rest of the wall has been knocked down by incoming enemy fire – and make no mistake, the entire founding philosophy of the Constitution is under heavy attack from Progressives. Yes, concentrate on your single issue, but there are times we all have to be voluntarily interlocked to protect the freedoms that are trying to be wrenched from us under the guise of the Marxist “greater good” collective group-think.  This is, again, one of those times.

Both President Obama (D-Chicago) and Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) have not problem in throwing the Constitution under the bus.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

That would be the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution for the clueless (or graduates of the Government school system).  Alternative titles:

  • “Both President Obama and Senator Jeanne Shaheen both agree with only half of “The Bigger the Government, the smaller the citizen”.

Obvious, both of them believe that Government is not big enough!

Jeanne Shaheen Wicked WitchWe have certainly seen lately that Shaheen decided to shred the idea of Federalism when she used the force of The Feds to override the NH elected Executive Councilors in funding Planned Parenthood.  And now, it seems, she not only has joined and gone all in with Obama with his assault on religious Liberty (Liberty – you know, the foundational philosophy of our country in all things personal, economic, and religious?).  It seems that as well sneering at the five Republicans on the Exec Council (“Look at me, you puny people – *I* can use the force of Bigger Government to tell NH how it will be run!”), she’s also been in forefront of getting Obama to throw Catholics onto the tracks as the Progressive train runs the US away from the idea of individual Liberty to that vaunted goal of

“we’re all in this together – whether or not you want to!“

Those who support the new Health and Human Services contraception mandate have largely stated that they hold their opinion because they are not a person of faith or because they disagree with the Church’s teachings on contraceptives. As a sophomore at an extremely secular college, I understand both of these arguments. However, both of the arguments miss the larger point: This mandate is an assault on religious liberty. If religious liberty can be assaulted from one side, it can be attacked from the other side as well.

…then why is the percentage of Americans living in “extreme poverty” at an all-time high?

Nothing says economic recovery like rising poverty.  Not just poverty but extreme poverty.  What, you hadn’t heard about that?

Then maybe you hadn’t heard this either.  Joblessness begets dependence, begets poverty, begets slaves to the will of the government.  Big brother doesn’t have to spy on you, he’s controlling your income.  If that isn’t a clear enough map how about this one.

There’s something to put on your resume.

…then why is the average duration of unemployment in this country close to an all-time record high?unemployment duration

With six million less jobs, thanks to Obama’s so-called recovery policies, should we be surprised that the average duration of unemployment is at or near a record high?  If you pollute the employment market, making it inhospitable to job creation–lets call it Obamagenic Employment Cooling–you have fertilized the field for long term despair.

…then why are there 6 million less jobs in America today than there were before the recession started?Obama blowed up all the jobs

This is a serious problem.  The people inside the blue bubbles and left wing ghettos can shout whatever number they want, but people are still out of work and underemployed.   Their quality of life, and standard of living are in shambles.  People who did not lose their jobs are trying to make stagnant or declining wages go further as inflation rises.  Claiming the unemployment rate has dropped makes for a great sound bite, but it doesn’t pay the bills, and neither do government hand outs.

Senator Jeanne Shaheen: Prioritizing political ideology on abortion over First Amendment Right of free expression of Religious Belief

“…it is not just a matter of “women’s health” and it makes no difference if “birth control is universal“.  From Left leaning Politico:

Jeanne Shaheen Wicked WitchSen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.) confronted Obama during a trip to the Granite State before the GOP primary, urging him to provide contraceptive coverage. Obama told her that he was sympathetic but had made no final decision.

It wasn’t until Jan. 20 that HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius announced the administration’s decision, sparking the firestorm from the bishops and the GOP presidential field.

“It’s very disturbing to me that his decision has been distorted and misinterpreted,” Shaheen told POLITICO. “It’s an issue of women’s health. Birth control is nearly universal in the country. I don’t understand why this is such a big issue.”

No, you wouldn’t, nor does it seem, that you want to.  And not it is not an issue of women’s health.  It is all about a Progressive mindset that Government has can tell its citizens your religious beliefs are subordinate to our decrees.  It is all about Government telling its citizens that the Constitution does not matter on one of the issues that laid the foundation of our Country.  It is all about Government turning the relationship of American citizens to their Government.  It is all about losing the consent of the Governed…or actually, ignoring that it is a necessary component of American Exceptionalism, and making a crass political decision that beliefs of an unprotected minority are of no account.

The First Amendment:

Are we Christians next to be tossed into Obama’s secular version of the Fiery Furnace simply for holding to religiously based beliefs other than what he is trying to establish with his latest Obamacare ruling? Certainly the Roman Catholic Church is square in his gunsights of the new Obamacare regulations set by Health and Human Services Sebelius.  Yet, does not Obama understand that religious freedom was a prime impetus for the establishment of our country?  Or just ignoring it to consolidate his power as he did in direct opposition to the Constitution when he has appointed unaccountable czars, has made “recess” appointments by unilaterally declaring the Senate in recess (even as it was not), and unilaterally changed large swaths of how Americans have to behave (shades of tin-plated despots everywhere).  And all he has to do is use his Executive levers of powers of an overlarge Federal Government that has grown from the laziness of a Congress that refuses to take up its own responsibilities under and to the Constitution?

Why should taxpayers be paying for more babies? Who really is the selfish one in all this? Enter stage Right – HB1658

Before getting into the quick discussion of NH HB1658 (“limiting financial assistance for mothers who have additional children while receiving Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF).”) that some Conservative has introduced, how ’bout this for a table setting?  This went viral back in December and while it was shocking to see a single women with 15 kids by 3 “baby daddies”, what was worse was the attitude display by her:

“Somebody needs to be held accountable, and they need to pay.”

(H/T: Weasel Zippers)  The Welfare State gone crazy?  No, it hasn’t.  What is shown here is the actual logical endgame of the Liberal philosophy that allows bad behavior to continue under the guise of “she needs help”. Yes, indeed she does – but not the type I think she requires (think: a humungous dose of traditional morality).  Yes, those children are in a bad situation – no doubt about that.  However in this case,  the Liberal philosophy that places personal sexual / libertine behavior off limits for discussion is shown for the fraud it really is – and the result is now clear that it places lots of children at risk.  Tell me, Libs – how is this result showing “we care more than Conservatives”? There are Progressives that hold the State should not become involved in the intimate life of that woman (except when it is a minor female child – then they have no problem involving Govt in abortions without Parental Notification), but here’s the rub – they have no problem in having the State pay for the consequences of that philosophy.

Except they also expect us all to just pay for the cost of their failed policy. And that is where NH HB1658 comes in.

US Senator Kelly Ayotte (R-NH) – I keep appreciating how she is actually voting and talking.

As we have said before (and told her personally), Senator Kelly has been a pleasantly surprising voice and vote in the US Senate as she has been voting more conservatively than what we first believed she would.  I think this quick interview she did with Fox News shows how important the debt ceiling, the indebtedness this nation has descended to, is to her:

I don’t think that there is a sane person in NH or the rest of the country that would disagree with her.  Progressives that worship at the feet of Obama and hang on every syllable uttered from TOTUS?  They continue to believe in the magical money tree, financial pixie dust, and Hope (which, as any project manager will tell you, is never a solid plan for success).

One man’s take on Obama’s SOTU speech (and not a good take either – we are in trouble)

I was still working on the video from Concord, so I did not live blog Obama.  However, I kept noticing the inconsistencies in what he was saying.  Sure, he talks a nice game, and if you are only partially listening, it sounded good.  If you are not politically aware, you might have thought the same.  However, I kept exclaiming to TMEW, over and over, “he just said said the opposite a moment ago”, “wait, he just said WHAT?”, or “Huh?  That makes no sense whatsover based on what he said 10 minutes ago!”.

Thus, when I found this guy, Clark Judge, over at Hugh Hewitt’s blog (reformatted it here), I just had to repost it to show how Obama (or his speech writers) has no clue what happens when you really do think about those inconsistencies:

It sounded like such a soft, even conservative speech.

But let me get this straight:

  1. banks will be punished (do I understand this right, by a committee headed by Eric Holder?) if their lending is too risky,
  2. and they will be required (by the same committee) to give more home loans (meaning, it must be, to people who would otherwise not qualify for the loans, or else the government would not have to be involved) at lower rates (which means rates that do not compensate them as much as the market says they need to be compensated for the risks they are taking, all of which sounds like a new edition of the policies that brought on the financial collapse),
  3. which must mean that they will have to pull back on risky lending someplace other than homes,
  4. the only place that most banks would be able to pull back on riskier customers would be loans to small and new businesses,
  5. but these are the businesses that have created just about all the jobs over the last 20 years and he said early in the speech he wants to encourage them,
