Senator Jeanne Shaheen: Prioritizing political ideology on abortion over First Amendment Right of free expression of Religious Belief

by

“…it is not just a matter of “women’s health” and it makes no difference if “birth control is universal“.  From Left leaning Politico:

Jeanne Shaheen Wicked WitchSen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.) confronted Obama during a trip to the Granite State before the GOP primary, urging him to provide contraceptive coverage. Obama told her that he was sympathetic but had made no final decision.

It wasn’t until Jan. 20 that HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius announced the administration’s decision, sparking the firestorm from the bishops and the GOP presidential field.

“It’s very disturbing to me that his decision has been distorted and misinterpreted,” Shaheen told POLITICO. “It’s an issue of women’s health. Birth control is nearly universal in the country. I don’t understand why this is such a big issue.

No, you wouldn’t, nor does it seem, that you want to.  And not it is not an issue of women’s health.  It is all about a Progressive mindset that Government has can tell its citizens your religious beliefs are subordinate to our decrees.  It is all about Government telling its citizens that the Constitution does not matter on one of the issues that laid the foundation of our Country.  It is all about Government turning the relationship of American citizens to their Government.  It is all about losing the consent of the Governed…or actually, ignoring that it is a necessary component of American Exceptionalism, and making a crass political decision that beliefs of an unprotected minority are of no account.

Shaheen has already shown the contempt she has for New Hampshire citizens and the decisions they made at the ballot box to remove her fellow Progressives travelers from elected office.  When the Executive Council legally decided to not let a contract to Planned Parenthood of NE, she brazenly overrode that decision and had the Federal Government directly fund Planned Parenthood.

So, now she has showing contempt for not only people and institutions of conscience , but also local democracy.  No, Senator Shaheen, it is not just a matter of “women’s health” and it makes no difference if “birth control is universal”.  And it makes no difference if many Catholic families do not follow their Church’s theology on this either.   It is about Foundational American political philosophy and from Whom they stem – perhaps that is of no account to you because you believe that Government should rightly in charge of everything – including what we think, how we think, about what we think, and what we believe.  And if what we believe is wrong, Progressives such as yourself believe it is your role to change it, right?  And that last sentence is why this is a big deal.

So which is it, Senator Shaheen – which is more important: your political ideology or First Amendment Rights?  Or do you agree with President Obama that the Bill of Rights is wrong?  No, Senator Shaheen, this is not about politics nor about healthcare.  It is the Freedom of people to practice their religion, with longstanding beliefs, without the Government establishing restrictions on it or forcing them to disobey those beliefs.

As Michelle Malkin wrote “First, they came for the Catholics“.  If the Obama Administration, and fellow conscience deniers such as Senator Shaheen can get away with this, what is the next chip that they will take out of our religious Freedom under the guise of “for the common good”?

And if you do not understand that, refuse to understand that, you and this country are in far more trouble than I ever thought.
