Data Point – Do Americans want more taxes or want more spending cuts?

Obama is saying that a majority of Americans want his approach to cutting the deficit: balanced.  Problem is, he already got a boatload of new taxes and is already looking for more.  Balanced: just like his use of the word “investment” means “spending more tax money”, his use of the word “balanced” means “more money … Read more

Consider the consequence of a decision – or the keeping of a promise

Unlike our Tranparency-in-Chief Obama who has, over and over, promised that his Administration would be the most transparent ever (as in former EPA Head Lisa Jackson using TWO unofficial email address to keep official business, well, opaque to the public), this boss was very transparent as to what would happen:

A southwest Ohio woman says she was fired three days after the November election because she voted for President Barack Obama.

She dared him

The woman has filed a lawsuit in Montgomery County Common Pleas Court seeking damages starting at $25,000 against Q-Mark Inc. and its president. The Dayton-based company is a sales firm representing manufacturers and defense contractors.

The Dayton Daily News  reports that Patricia Kunkle alleges that company President Roberta Gentile told employees last year that Obama supporters would be the first to be terminated if he got re-elected.

He met the dare….how dare he!

The company says she was laid off for economic reasons and cited uncertainty over U.S. defense spending.

Given the sequester and its impact on the military budget AND the uncertainty of whether it will be held off plays a role in any biz decision.

Kunkle had become a full-time employee of the company in May 2012 and says she never received any negative evaluations or disciplinary action.

Obama’s SOTU:“They deserve a vote,”

“They deserve a vote,” he intoned during the obligatory gun control portion of his speech. “They deserve a vote,” he repeated, just in case you missed it the first time. “Gabby Giffords deserves a vote. The families of Newtown deserve a vote. The families of Aurora deserve a vote. The families of Oak Creek and Tucson and Blacksburg and the countless other communities ripped open by gun violence – they deserve a simple vote.”

A State of the Union address?  Nay, Narcissist-in-Chief Obama turned it into a political agenda rally. I remembered another time when such politcking was that crass – I tweeted a bit during the State of the Union address this past Tuesday and this is what I said as Obama talked deserving a vote:

He just turned SOTU into the gun equivalent of the Wellstone funeral. Disgusting.

US Senator Paul Wellstone (D-MN) was one of the most Liberal folks in the Senate at the time of his death (plane crash just before the elections of 2002).

From Ace of Spades: Unworthy: We’re Losing the Battle of Ideas to a Bunch of Low-Information Snarking Hipsters

Like cool, daddy!
Like cool, daddy!

After Granite Grok, Ace of Spades is probably my favorite read.  I have no idea who ‘Ace’ is – a lawyer, a professor, a soldier, or simply a thoughtful and informed citizen.  Like Grok, subjects run the gamut from politics to technology to the occasion movie review but yesterday, Ace wrote a piece about a lengthy article posted At Legal Insurrection by William A. Jacobson, an associate professor at Cornell Law School, Says Ace: ‘Give it a read; I have a thought about this.’  I second the recommendation but suggest you read Ace’s comments first:

My thought about this is that people don’t like thinking very hard, and this goes quintuple for low-information people. The more you do something, the more skilled you get at it, and the more you like it, which in turn impels you to do more of it. (I’m a champ at self-abuse, for example. When there’s a Hall of Fame I’m in on first ballot.)

On the other hand, the less you do of something, the harder it is for you to do it, and the less you wish to do it, which then leads to you becoming, in this context, dumber still.

And one thing that it occurs to me that dumb, low-information people might crave is reassurance for their ego that their dumb, low-information ways are in fact ideal and a perfect response to the world.

O Lights Another Exploding Cigar

The cunning charlatan-in-chief has once again outdone and outsmarted someone… himself.

Just last month, one of O’s schemes exploded in the faces of his voters as if they were attending an exploding cigar festival and he was the one doling out the stogies.  O promised not to raise taxes on families making under $250,000. Then, with his keen focus and acute brinksmanship, he solidified the “Bush tax cuts” for 99% percent of the people that pay income taxes (yeah, Boehner got snookered; keep telling yourself that) . That sounds good, right?  Well, wait. There’s more.  While he solidified those cuts, he simultaneously allowed taxes to go up on net to families that make under $250K, thus detonating yet another promise with the same sly agility as Wile E. Coyote.

Mi stai prendendo in giro?

“This is something I’ve struggled with throughout my presidency,” said Obama. “The problem is that I’m the president of the United States, I’m not the emperor of the United States. My job is to execute laws that are passed.”

DHS Tries to Explain Why It Needs 1.6 Billion More Rounds of Ammo

The speculation about why the US Department of Homeland Security would want to buy another 1.6 billion (with a b) rounds of ammunition over the next few years as been ‘enthusiastic’-if not just creepy at times, but worry not, they have put the issue to rest.

The Homeland Security Department wants to buy more than 1.6 billion rounds of ammunition in the next four or five years. It says it needs them — roughly the equivalent of five bullets for every person in the United States — for law enforcement agents in training and on duty.

The article goes on to tell us that they spend  about 15 million rounds annually on training.  Just for perspective during the Iraq war the US military used about 70 million if the rumors are true.   It looks like the pre-Obama military (in response to the needs of the global war on terror) were placing its orders in the 100 million rounds a year range, though I suspect that figure is a bit soft.   And if you want more perspective, even if DHS and its associated agencies used up 20 million rounds a year on practice fun and friends  it would take them 80 years to use up the 1.6 billion rounds they’ve requested.

Democrats can’t even write a budget for the next 12 months, why is Obama’s DHS contracting ammo purchases to cover the rest of the century?

Er, aren’t you part of the problem, sir?

Presumably, a sense of decorum kept senators and representatives from rolling in the aisles in laughter when the president uncorked this line: “The greatest nation on Earth cannot keep conducting its business by drifting from one manufactured crisis to the next.” I had a bunch of tweets during SOTU on a bunch of things, but I … Read more

Status of the Union – a very sorry affair

I tweeted during the whole thing and I’ll put them up later on.  In quickly reviewing them, I think this one sums up the speech the best:

There’s NOTHING that the Federal Government can’t do – and nothing that Obama won’t refuse to have it grab. #GROK #TCOT #NHPOLITICS #SOTU

But you all knew that already, right?  You know that his idea of a perfect community is just you, and government.  Nothing else, for in his Progressives eyes, nothing else  matters or should be needed.  You see, the story of Julia that Obama released during the campaign, how she would rely on government, was not the whole story, was it?  At no time, then or tonight, was there a mention of family helping out, of neighbors helping out, or voluntary associations between other citizens in fraternal organizations or churches, was there?  That act of citizens helping each other OUTSIDE THE SPHERE OF GOVERNMENT that De Toqueville said was the vital strength of America – absent.

No, that kind of America does not exist in your Utopia, does it Mr. Obama?  Instead, it is only a small individual and a Big Government surrounding that person 360.  The intent may be to protect, but that 360 degree wall can also be seen as a cell wall.

When does a President become a dictator?

This from today’s Washington Post: President Obama is considering a series of new executive actions aimed at working around a recalcitrant Congress….One of the first orders is expected this week….The moves underscore Obama’s increasingly aggressive use of executive authority….. Query: Does the U.S. Constitution provide for a President to bypass “a recalcitrant Congress” when it … Read more

How Teachers Unions Hurt Schools

Prager Universitie’s latest great video is “How Teachers Unions Hurt Schools.” I’m in a hurry so  I’ll just snag some context from Breitbart for now: ” ‘How Teachers Unions Hurt Schools is narrated by Stanford Professor Terry Moe.   Moe explains how the Obama administration’s admissions that the education system is broken contradict their pro-union stance. “Union … Read more

Apparently, what was not good for the goose IS good for the gander

Obama’s political promises all come with expiration dates – every.single.one.of.them.  It seems that his political taunts do as well – at least those that can help him if he conveniently forgets that he used them against his enemies earlier.  Like when being a non-profit was BAAAD for Americans for Prosperity and but now good for his campaign organization assuming the exact same non-profit structure (it will allow him to hide the identity of HIS donors – malfeasance he accused AFP of during the campaign).

AFP certainly noticed the hypocrisy:

Today Americans for Prosperity, a nationwide organization of citizen leaders with over 2 million activists and 34 state chapters, released a new video poking fun at the president for his new non-profit, tax exempt group.

Cop Killing LA Spree Shooter Is Big Fan of Obama, Biden, MSM, Piers Morgan and More…

Cop killer and spree killer is fan of obama and the MSMYesterday we reported that Floyd Corkins, a gay rights activist, was motivated to kill by the liberal Southern Poverty Law Center.

Today we get to meet Chris Dorner, former LA cop (fired in 2009), murderer, cop killer, (and now mass murderer/spree killer)…who also happens to be a big fan of Barack Obama, Joe Biden, Hillary Clinton, CNN, MSNBC, Piers Morgan, gun control, and oh yeah, he hates the NRA.

“But there are certain people, people who have mental health issues, perhaps.    People who have felony records.  These are all categories of people who are not entitled to carry guns and I think that we have to make sure that it continues to be the case.  One of the things that the President has asked me to do is to look at that list, those categories, and see if we have to expand it to make sure that, again, the wrong people do not come into possession of guns.”

The Obama Recovery Is So Darn Good…

The recovery is so damn good that more people stopped looking for work than found a job in January.  Around 157,000 became employed while 169,000 people left the labor force. Since Obama came to office 8.5 million Americans have left the labor force.  That means that there are 8.5 million fewer jobs in the country … Read more
