Obama's SOTU:“They deserve a vote,” - Granite Grok

Obama’s SOTU:“They deserve a vote,”

“They deserve a vote,” he intoned during the obligatory gun control portion of his speech. “They deserve a vote,” he repeated, just in case you missed it the first time. “Gabby Giffords deserves a vote. The families of Newtown deserve a vote. The families of Aurora deserve a vote. The families of Oak Creek and Tucson and Blacksburg and the countless other communities ripped open by gun violence – they deserve a simple vote.”

A State of the Union address?  Nay, Narcissist-in-Chief Obama turned it into a political agenda rally. I remembered another time when such politcking was that crass – I tweeted a bit during the State of the Union address this past Tuesday and this is what I said as Obama talked deserving a vote:

He just turned SOTU into the gun equivalent of the Wellstone funeral. Disgusting.

US Senator Paul Wellstone (D-MN) was one of the most Liberal folks in the Senate at the time of his death (plane crash just before the elections of 2002).

All of the luminaries of the political world went to the funeral service and it was televised.  I’ll tell you, I watch the very mantra of Progressivism in full roar – it quickly turned from a somber service to a Liberal Political Rally, especially Senator Tom “Misallocation of Wealth” Harkin in screaming “DO IT FOR PAUL!  DO IT FOR PAUL!”   Always the push for emotion – always the push for guilt.  Always the push of politics into every nook and cranny of life…

…as if political action can solve all problems and salve all wounds.

How DARE you disagree with me in their tragedy (on which I am piggybacking)! It isn’t just those enumerated that deserve a vote, Mr. President – how about seeing this as a re-affirmation of the Constitution?  Does your oath to uphold such trump mere emotion?  Or does that oath mimic your other political promises – served with expiration dates implied?

We all deserve a vote, Mr. President – not just the latest group of which you are taking political advantage.  We all deserve to have an input into how laws are to be created – and not to “pull” the vote based on a tragedy.  Yes, we all “get” that if you had your druthers, we’d be gunless (and, pretty much Constitutionaless).  After all, in your mind and in line with your Progressive mantra, it is never “free from an overbearing government” as the Founders knew, but a twisted sort of freedom – “the freedom from the harsh, brutish realities of life by taking from some to give to others”.  That was always the problem with FDR’s Second Amendment that you are bound and determined to outweigh – in order to guarantee the freedoms listed by FDR, Government by necessity must be no better than King George that give rise to the Revolutionary War – for we would be no more than subjects living under a Progressive “equality by quotas” theocracy.

“They deserve a vote”.

No.
