If an enterprising teacher looked at their District’s cost per student and then created their own micro-school with even 20 students, they’d be earning far more than at their static union wage ladder.
There is a story going around about how Kay, a single mom in Manchester, isn’t eligible for an Education Freebie Account (EFA) because she’s $90 over the income cutoff.
The conclusion reached by the author of the story is that we should have universal eligibility for EFAs. But that’s backward.

Many imbalances or inequities in our culture result from the same problem. The failure of “the state” to put academic rigor ahead of politics. And who runs “the state”? Bureaucrats, financed by the DC uniparty, which is run by Democrats.
We learned that one of the most outstanding renditions of the national anthem was sung by the Seacoast Men of Harmony and that the Scottish Arts Center entertained us for Tartan Day with bagpipes and fiddle music. It was superb.
When I learned that Ian Underwood’s latest book was available, I eagerly awaited an opportunity to buy it. An in-person sale that didn’t require excessive miles on my odometer. Today was the day because his wife had a table at an event in my zip code.
In March of 2023, I was part of a group of Republicans in Nashua Ward 7 that organized to hand out fliers promoting Education Freedom Accounts (EFAs) to our local public elementary schools, Dr. Crisp and Sunset Heights. Dr. Crisp has been recognized as one of the lowest-performing five percent of all schools in the state for the second year in a row.

Schools shall ensure that all pupils are performing at the proficient level or above on the statewide assessment as established in RSA 193-C.
There is a classic tale in which one man lends money to another. When the time comes to repay the loan, the debtor claims that no loan was ever made. They go to trial, and the lender says that the money was counted out on a large stone, which should be brought to court as a witness. The debtor says, ‘The stone will never be found, because I broke it into many pieces, which I dispersed to many places.’
Vermonters head into town meeting week with a massive property tax increase looming over our heads, as much as 40 percent in some communities. There is a collective wail on Front Porch Forum and on social media, at least in my town of Stowe, that “the system is broken!” No, it’s not.
Here’s something that blows my mind.
On the one hand, conservative parents continue to fight over the issue of pornographic books in school libraries.
But on the other hand, they continue to send their children to a political institution controlled by woke progressives.
I recently attended Ian Underwood’s presentation titled “Back to Schools” at the Sullivan County GOP Committee meeting, during which he argued coherently and consistently for separating the concerns of what to include in government-funded schools and what to exclude.
