Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker Signs Bill to Raise Minimum Wage to $15
Gov. Charlie Baker (R) of Massachusetts signed a bill Thursday to raise the state’s minimum wage to $15 an hour by 2023.
The new law will set the wage to $11 per hour and then raise the pay rate in steps until it hits $15 in five years. The wage for tipped workers will also increase but at a lower rate, going from $3.75 to $6.75 by 2023, according to Mass Live.The $15 wage will match California for the highest minimum wage in the nation by 2023.
On the political side, 88% of Republicans and 24% of Democrats view the group favorably.”
Even with the full out attacks by anti-gunners and the media, Americans still have a favorable view of the NRA. I’m just surprised that it’s only been a 5% drop. And the grassroots organization, even with the vitriol thrown against them, keeps out-raising its detractors:
The NRA’s Political Victory Fund, the gun-rights group’s PAC, raised $1,164,540.23 in the month of May. That’s nearly $325,000 more than the top three gun-control PACs combined. It is also, however, a retreat of $687,783.05 from the NRA PAC’s April fundraising total.

Speaker Gene Chandler announced yesterday that the New Hampshire House would no longer support the National Council of State Legislatures (NCSL). What was the last straw? The NCSL’s support for the internet sales tax.
New Hampshire is very proud to have no sales tax. Our retail business community thrives as a result of our no sales tax environment. To ask our retailers to collect taxes for dozens of other states is a huge burden on them, and will likely jeopardize their ability to do business online with out-of-state customers. We are certainly disappointed in the Court’s decision, but we are more frustrated that NCSL has championed legislation in Congress to force a remote sales tax, and cheered the recent court decision.
With the retirement of Justice Kennedy, Mr. Trump has the opportunity to ‘shape the court’ for decades. Democrats are frantically looking through their narrative junk drawer for a story-line the media can sell to whoever will listen. Outrage for the it-takes-a-village sheeple to robotically regurgitate on social media, at the office ‘watercooler,’ or their neighbor’s “lawns” over the upcoming 4th of July barbequepalooza and beyond.

Yesterday Dover, New Hampshire raised the age for buying tobacco products to 21. So, beware to anyone under 21 in possession of tobacco. If you wander onto the Dover plantation, you’ll be breaking the law.
The Garrison City will become the first municipality in the state to raise the age to legally possess, use and purchase tobacco products in Dover to 21 years old.
The City Council voted to approve the ordinance change on a 6-1-2 vote, with Ward 4 Councilor Marcia Gasses voting no, Mayor Karen Weston recusing, and Ward 6 Councilor Matthew Keane absent from the meeting.

New Hampshire is the highest-ranked state for children’s well-being, according to a national survey released on Wednesday.
The Annie E. Casey Foundation’s Kids Count report, based on data from 2016, ranks New Hampshire first overall and second in economic well-being, with drops in the number of children living in households with high cost burdens and children living in poverty.
“Republican” Massachusets Governor Charlie Baker (who is up for re-election this fall) signed a bill to raise the minimum wage, add permanent tax holiday weekend, and something Granite Stater’s luckily (just) avoided.
An $800 million paid family and medical leave program overseen by the state government and backed by a payroll tax will be launched so workers can more easily take care of themselves and their families without facing fiscal crises.
The 2-day (sales) tax holiday is “cute” but there will be no tax holiday from the 800 million in new plunder from employees and employers or it’s leasting effects.
UPDATE and bumped: Yay! It looks like the NH Administration is taking this seriously (emphasis mine, reformatted):
The Union Leader obtained a memo Attorney General Gordon MacDonald sent to Administrative Services Commissioner Charles Arlinghaus making it clear that as of the next payroll on July 6 all state workers must give permission to have any fees withheld from their paychecks. “As a result of this decision, the Department of Administrative Services must immediately stop deducting an agency fee from any state employee,” MacDonald wrote.
“No agency fee should be deducted from paychecks issued on that date and thereafter unless the employee has given his or her consent.”
Works for me! Now to get rid of the idea that a union can negotiate for me better than I can; how could they in that they have no idea what is best for me?

I was talking with a number of folks this morning at a meeting when the word flashed around. My go to blog for SCOTUS decisions is SCOTUSblog.com for their play-by-play calling out of the decisions that are released by The Supreme Court of the United States and the on-the-spot quick analysis of what the decisions mean to “the folks” like me who aren’t lawyers and make no claims no how to be such. The court ruled that forcing non-members to pay agency fees to unions whose views they may oppose violates their rights to free speech and free association under the Constitution’s First Amendment. Workers in the public sector who do not want to pay agency fees could start withholding them immediately, said Bill McQuillen, president of the Professional Firefighters of New Hampshire.
“The Supreme Court has spoken and that’s the law of the land,” he said. “It’s an unfortunate decision, as it now makes it more difficult for people to represent the middle-class workers. That having been said, I don’t believe it’s going to have a big impact on our organization because by and large our members want to affiliate with the PFFNH.”

Democrats are always mad, but at least now they have a reason. Mitch McConnell says the U.S. Senate will have a replacement on board for Justice Kennedy before the November election.
Democrat’s are (believe it or not) playing the hypocrisy card because the GOP balked at moving on Merrick Garland before the Presidential Election in 2016. They demand the same consideration here. Wait until after November.
Democrat Gubernatorial Candidate Steve Marchand has read the fair-trade responsibly sourced liberal tea leaves. Advocating Far-Left ideas wins Democrat primaries. To that end, he’s decided to share his plan for making New Hampshire into a sanctuary state.
Keep in mind that it is the Sanctuary Status of Lawrence, Massachusetts that makes it the epicenter of opioid and human trafficking into New Hampshire.
