Guess WHAT Shawn Millerick? Establishment R’s DID plan to have a meetup to pick their Chair!

I am still waiting for NH Journal (as far as I know, still co-owned by political operatives Patrick Hynes of Hynes Communications and Shawn Millerick of Millerick Financial) to post a retraction to their story that a number of grassroot activists met to “choose” someone to run against the Establishment candidate, Jennifer Horn.  Every person named in that story has told Millerick that there was no meeting to which they were “not invited.”  To date, the only notation that Millerick has put on his post has been verbiage intimating there was a meeting but that the “invitees” were not invited (re: how else would you take his phrasing of “UPDATE: Surprise! Diane Bitter tells NH Journal she was not invited to the meeting.” ?).

Well, the bigger problem for him is that the Establishment was talking about having such a meeting – I was forwarded an email thread speaking to that point.  Here are two of them (emphasis mine):

Wither Thee A Thermostat – One Example of How Government Can Ruin Your Life

Here is a very good example of why the Government sucks, and why the very nature of the state as a reliever of ills is actually destructive to that very end..

Throughout the entire winter, every winter lately, the temperature in my house is around 63-65 degrees.  At night, and when we are out, it is a good bit colder.  This is not exactly the most comfortable environment but I have no choice.  I cannot afford to keep it warmer so we grab extra sweatshirts and blankets and suck it up.

Now some folks will ask, why can’t you afford it and if not would you be eligible for something like heating aid?

I probably am eligible, but it is the governments own fault that I would even need to be eligible in the first place so that is not the kind of aid I want or need.

Yes, it’s true. Pizza Hut is now selling its own line of perfume.

The top pizza chain announced Tuesday the release of “Eau du Pizza Hut.” a new fragrance from the Canadian branch of Pizza Hut that aims to capture “the smell of a box of Pizza Hut pizza being opened.”

I can think of a lot of scents I’d like to smell on a woman but isn’t the smell of fresh baked bread (or in this case baked pizza dough) a bit sexist?  Why not a scent that exudes the comfort of freshly laundered clothing or something that’s just been ironed, or the oil on the chain that reaches from the laundry room to the kitchen and the bedroom ?

The smell of that particular oil is actually very arousing.  Now if I could just figure out how to get the manacle off my ankle.

Rose Colored Times

Ah, to have rose colored glasses. I wish I could look at life’s trials and just see lollipops, unicorns, and rainbows (or better yet, their adult counterparts: beer, football, and darkened rendezvous). I’ve made efforts to see lollipops and rainbows before and, once North Korea opens up, I plan on checking out those unicorns too, but it’s always been an effort to see the fluffy benignities. Most of the time, I see things as they are. And drek is drek. No matter how hard I squint, dress it up, and tell myself that it’s perrrty, it’s still drek. It’s like an Oliver Stone movie; the title is compelling, but if I submit to optimism’s seduction, I know that once I plop down the cash, sit in the theater and the strip starts-a-rollin’ out will spill retarded conspiracy theories stemming from Oliver’s American self-loathing and unrelenting mother crush (hey, he makes stuff up, so can I). They’ll spill like the putrid sewage from Eddie’s motorhome in Christmas Vacation, it’s dreck.

So to look at the situation in Cairo through bloodshot, rosy eyes and convince yourself that the Muslim Brotherhood is “moderate, regular old political” just after its leader, Morsi, declared himself above the law is beyond foolish and naive, it’s drek.  But to the New York Times, it’s lollipops and rainbows.

A Belated Riff On Skip’s Dr. Paul Rahe Post

In that it’s out there being discussed, it’s a very heartening read. I meant to get this out a few days ago, but I couldn’t get the time to write this up until now. Skip, thanks for finding and sharing Dr. Rahe’s piece. It reminds me of many things, I’ll touch on just a few.

First my answer to Skip’s last question in his post: there must be, if we’re to survive with liberty. I don’t believe that conservatives and libertarians are that far apart at our core. But I do believe there will always be a constant re-drawing of the line between what is and is not a function of the state when conservatives and libertarians debate. I think that’s good. Our dogma is not settled and probably, hopefully, never will be; that’s what makes us more vibrant than the left. And I think most of the disagreements can be resolved with Federalism. Now, onto a few thoughts.

Though F.A. Hayek is often claimed by the libertarians as one of their own, I believe for the exact reason mentioned in Rahe’s article he belongs in the conservative realm. He did believe in what he called the Extended Order, which, in a nutshell, is the application of Adam Smith’s Invisible Hand to social traditions, mores, and virtues. It is the understanding that pieces of wisdom pass down through history because, by definition, they were beneficial to a society’s success. Society thrived and flourished because of innumerable things learned and inculcated into a society and eventually were done so subconsciously. Things that weren’t beneficial were pruned away and withered. Traditions, behaviors, and virtues evolved and hardened. It is precisely these traditions that enable a long and transcendent view of a society, and why they must be cherished. And resistance must be applied when it is sought to remove, deviate, or pervert them for the immediate illusory gain– which brings us to Burke and Montesquieu, but I digress.

It is obvious that the threatened shutoff of donations from Washington during Jack Kimball’s term is easily seen; it also seems that NH based PACs also went along with a self-imposed drought. But it is also clear that from NH individuals, Jack Kimball did better than Wayne MacDonald (and just a little bit less in PAC and “other” contributions) yet Jack is the one that gets the political shaft – what hasn’t MacDonald received the same opproprium?.

Wolverinity !!!!

One of my favorite movies is “Red Dawn”, a movie from the 1980 starring the late Patrick Swyze (er, a fairly young one) had a plot of what a group of High School kids would do when the US was invaded and their parents killed. Sure, a bit hokey, but it showed a love of family and friends, and certainly a love of country. The “redo” is now out – I do need to go see it.  Anyways, a blog I go to once in a while, The Daily Brief, combined that with what a lot of Conservatives and traditionalists are thinking about the country’s political situation (emphasis mine):

Bob Costas – showing that he is a true Liberal with a single phrase

We’re not done covering sports broadcaster Bob Costas and his outburst for gun control during Monday Night Football.  In trying to “explain” his MNF soliliquoy, he let this sally forth as some kind of an explanation.  Now, there are a lot of folks that are just concentrating on the talk specifically about guns; my beef with him is how he phrased it (see if you can catch it).  From the Washington Post (via Breitbart):

“Here’s where I stand: I do not want to see the Second Amendment repealed. … People should be allowed to own guns for their own protection. Obviously, those who are hunters. … Access to guns is too easy in some cases. I don’t see any reason a citizen should be able to arm himself in some states in ways only police or military should — to have a virtual militia [by] mail order or gun shows. Why do you need a semi-automatic weapon? What possible use is there? … Whitlock wrote about a gun culture. That’s what I was focusing on.”

Part of the culture is the proliferation of weapons, he said.

“There are those who believe that denying a semi automatic weapon or an assault rifle is the first step down a slippery slope in denying an old lady a gun for her own protection,” Costas said. “There are people who honestly believe that in Aurora [Colo.] if only a dozen or so people there to watch the Batman movie had been packin’, they would have been able to take down the nut job in full body armor with military-type guns

A joke at a crass unionista’s expense

A union shop foreman walks into a bar next door to the factory and is about to order a drink to celebrate Obama’s victory when he sees a guy close by wearing a Romney for President button and two beers in front of him. He doesn’t have to be an Einstein to know that this guy is a Republican. So, he shouts over to the bartender so loudly that everyone can hear, “Drinks for everyone in here, bartender, but not for the Republican.”

Soon after the drinks have been handed out, the Republican gives him a big smile, waves at him, then says, “Thank you!” in an equally loud voice. This infuriates the union official.

So, CNN blabbermouth Piers Morgan decided to expound on the 2nd Amendment too?

Herd instinct and “mee too”-ism of the talking punditry class – of the “You don’t need that” kind.  Ya’d think a Brit would get the idea of self-defense (Magna Carta and common law, y’all).  Well, The Corner has the amusing Twitter spat that showed how outgunned (heh!) Piers Morgan was in this word duel on Twitter.  So he decides to make the FACT that parts of the Constitution no longer apply simply due to the age of the document.  Muskets, swords, primitive cannons, horses – how COULD a modern AR-15 have been contemplated by the Founders?

Was Millerick Donating Regularly to a PAC that Supports Prominent Democrats?

NH Journal took its first shot at Andrew Hemingway for daring to challenge the Republican establishments anointed candidate for NH-GOP chair.  Shawn Millerick sources his most recent remarks on the race for New Hampshire Republican State Party Chairman from a ‘Republican Reader,’ who forwarded to him a piece by the more-often-than-not left wing political meme generator, POLITICO.

The story recounts the mind-numbing volume of shady, fly-by-night PACs formed over the last two years ostensibly designed to help the pugnacious West, a conservative African-American Congressman from Florida.

So Shawn Millerick, the (r)epublican establishment meat puppet whose ‘Sources’ invented a meeting and its purpose out of whole cloth, which Millerick then posted without verification (becasue he probably made it up) and has yet to retract, now has a ‘Republican Reader’ who sent him an article questioning Hemingway’s motivation for using his PAC to support Conservative Republican Allen West for Congress…

OK Shawn I’ll play.  Why did your wife donate regularly to a PAC that gives half it’s money to Democrats in Congress and the US Senate?
