Every Issue is a Social Issue

The single greatest shortcoming among the secularists, the non-religious right, most of the left, the social justice “small ‘r’ religious left, and the mass of humans too confounded (or disinterested) by it all to be called anything but in the middle, is that humans are essentially selfish and immoral creatures whom–if left unchecked–will inevitably devolve into tyranny.

If given an opportunity to take advantage they do.  And more often than not, if there are obstacles, be they divine commandments or temporal statutes, people find a way to not just break them, but to justify breaking them.  We are lazy.  The lowest common denominator is not beyond a single one of us.  And not to put too fine a point on that but we currently live in a country where executing an infant at birth, simply because that child’s mother said they did not want them, is a major feature of one of the two current political parties in America, while most of the people in the other one, are afraid to bring that up.

The Pemigewasset Valley Fish & Game Club in Holderness, started in May of 1941 through the efforts of it’s founder, Rosco Whitcomb with by-laws drawn up by local sportsmen. The “Pemi” remains today, an active and vibrant local community sporting club, and like so many other Fish & Game Clubs, adheres to principles of Conservation of habitat, fish and wildlife propagation and good and ethical sportsmanship. It’s members hail from all ends of the socio-economical demographic and is truly a representative microcosm of the larger society and culture of the area.

Guest post by NH State Senator Ray White on HB437 (the bill to repeal homosexual marriage here in NH):

My email is running 10-1 against the marriage bill. When I get those emails, here is my response, which usually gets me a very ugly, hateful reply:

“Unfortunately, I have to disagree with your email. I must state up front that I am against same-sex marriage, civil unions, or any other relationship that is not traditional marriage as it was understood for the entire history of the human race, at least until the last few years.

Marriage is a special institution that all previous generations understood to be between a man and a woman. There has never been a society, a culture, a country, or a people that defined it any differently until very recent history. Although the argument has been made that my viewpoint is a religious understanding of marriage, the fact of the matter is that even so-called “pagan” or other types of nonreligious cultures have also agreed on this definition throughout history. This is because marriage is about the fundamental building block of society, and it has always been understood as so, regardless of religious beliefs.

It has been only in recent years that the notion has been put forth that marriage needs to be redefined and broadened. Nothing could be further from the truth. It is unbelievable that after thousands and thousands of years of human history, that we think we can turn our backs on this fundamental truth and still prosper as a society. It is complete hubris to believe that we are smarter than the billions upon billions of people who have gone before us. I refuse to subscribe to this thinking. I reject the notion that this type of thinking is discriminatory. It is simply a factual clearheaded statement of right and wrong.

I believe that the breakdown of the traditional family has been a huge detriment to society, producing incredible social ills that government now finds itself unsuccessfully wrestling with to correct and mitigate. It began several decades ago with the general acceptance of divorce, and has proceeded to the general acceptance of producing children without the benefit of marriage and commitment, where fathers are now optional sperm donors, and now to the topic we find ourselves discussing in this e-mail. It is no coincidence that everything I am describing has happened simultaneously, i.e. the rethinking and redefinition of marriage and the social crumbling of society at large.

Will Jeanne Shaheen Send The IRS After the NHCAA?

The NHCAA is the New Hampshire Citizens Alliance for Action.  They are a 501 (c)(4), and the political-action arm of the New Hampshire Citizen Alliance (NHCA). The NHCA is a 501(c)(3) and the local chapter of USA Action which, if it was in a vat and you scooped some out, it would provide you with a frothing cup of primordial progressive/socialist poison.

I point this out {the 501 (c)(4) part at least} because according to a letter signed by New Hampshire’s own Senator Shaheen, sent to the Internal Revenue Service, several Democrat Senators have expressed a concern about whether 501(c)(4) groups are engaging in any campaign activity which (according to the Senators) is expressly prohibited by their 501 (c)(4) status.

There Is No Recovery

Time to put another nail in the Obama recovery coffin.  The recovery that started when the recession “ended” in June of 2009.  The recovery that is not growing jobs faster than the rate of population growth.

But that is hardly the worst of the Democrat’s problems.  The bigger problem is that they are selling trillion dollar deficits year after year on the assumption it is creating jobs.  They are printing money to pump into the economy on top of that to “jump start” this or that, which devalues the dollar, making everything cost more. (Inflation.)  And the end result of all that debt, and deficit spending, and economic risk taking. and destruction is this…

Besides, like many of you, we plan to do a lot of things at the Grok that we never end up doing because there are only so many hours in the day.  By posting these here we encourage ourselves, and hopefully others, to take advantage of these excellent opportunities–opportunities that arm us all with knowledge our progressive friends would rather you not have.

Favorite pastime in New Hampshire? VOTE FRAUD!

This from former state representative and former Dover City Council member Dave Scott, a Harvard MBA and bilingual former CEO of a multi-national corporation:

I am certain we have illegal registration in towns near the University of New Hampshire in Durham.  We identified over 100 that voted improperly in Dover three years ago. We sent out letters to about 1,000 who voted for the first time.  The post office returned those they were unable to deliver. Stamped on the envelope were such phases as No such street number,  No such street address, No such person living at that street number.  We sent them to Bud Fitch at the office of the Attorney General.  No action.

That is, after the 2008 election, letters were sent out to 1,000 “first-time voters.” And are you surprised….?

Donna Brazile – no healthcare Freedom for ANYONE!

I just received a lovely email from my old friend, Donna Brazile. OK, we’re not old friends. For some reason she has decided to put me on her email list. She writes:

This week, the Senate votes on a GOP amendment that would let your employer decide what health care you can receive. If they morally object to birth control, it’s gone. If some corporation thinks cancer screening is too expensive, forget it.

This amendment is dangerous, and the people pushing it need to lose their jobs.

It is insane that we get our health care from our employers. That happens because we have given a tax advantage to in-kind compensation such as health care. It’s a horrible idea and it leads people to complain about our employers deciding what health care we can receive. Our employers are just a conduit for government mandates, rent-seeking and inefficiency related to health care. What the government has done is tax-advantage health care via employers and then tell them what has to be covered. So the real outrage is that because of this, the government mandates the mix of my compensation package, biasing it toward a luxury health-care package that is the result of special interest clamoring.
