We’ve made sport of Ben & Jerry’s for years, with this past week’s foolishness offering up a cornucopia of opportunities for ridicule. In classic commie fashion, Limousine Libs Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield suggested “America” give back stolen land™, just not their stolen land.
Yesterday, I scrabbled together a quick comment on Ben & Jerry’s ignorant indigenous Independence Day tweet, but when I saw Rob Roper’s take, mine went into the digital dustbin. I liked his more, but the fates have since blessed me with news that makes for a great follow-up.
Okay… So, by now you have probably heard that Ben & Jerry’s, in a “Hold my Bud Light” attempt to see who can alienate the most customers with one Tweet, kicked off July 4th with the statement, “It’s high time we recognize that the US exists on stolen Indigenous land and commit to returning it.”
Long ago and way back in time (circa 2000), the Global Beast named Unilever ate Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream. Ben and Jerry each got a fat check and retained the right to lead an independent board that could make whiney decisions based on the company’s social mission.
Ben & Jerry were self-hating Jews before they sold their little Ice Cream concern to Unilever. The left-wing activism runs deep, but the brand has gone all-in on the BDS movement in recent years.
Earlier this year, Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream (a wholly-owned subsidiary of Unilever) decided that “it is inconsistent with our values for Ben & Jerry’s ice cream to be sold in the Occupied Palestinian Territory (OPT).” They stopped selling. States with anti-BDS laws are taking notice.
Have you heard this one? Three white guys go after another white guy. The other white guy shoots them in self-defense. Two of them die, and he’s on trial for murder. Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream (perhaps desperate for attention) has turned this into a cautionary tale about racism.
