Inclusiveness Requires Censorship?

The big story last week was a University Language guide that finger-wagged “problematic” words in order to create a more inclusive campus environment. The story went national. We discuss why removing the guide doesn’t change the culture that birthed it, then move on to our next guest to discuss the debate on legalizing drugs.

How The Word ‘American’ Became Problematic

The big news this week was a University of New Hampshire Language Guide that explained what words were problematic in conversation and should be avoided to foster diversity and “inclusiveness.” We journey back to the 1990’s with our Ed expert Jorge Mesa-Tejada to explain when this problem with the word “American” began.

GrokTALK! – Taxpayers On The Hook Again?

Taxpayers might be on the hook again as a local utility looks to divest itself of some property (with the legislatures help). Then there’s an election law bill that may make the definition of domicile worse (if you can imagine that). And we take a few shots at UNH because we are talking about domicile. … Read more

The Whores of UNH

University of NewHampshire Seal

UNH held a conference on women in the sex industry in which it used donations and student organization funds to bring in prostitutes from across the nation.  No one knew that was where the money came from until AFP-NH filed a right to know request with the university asking how the travel and expenses of the prostitutes were paid for. They wanted to make sure that taxpayer dollars were not used for this purpose.

The same university that has engaged repeatedly in politicking itself, and the promotion of the left wing agenda, not to mention paying professors charged with sex crimes to do nothing while on probation, got a bit snippy in its reply.

Cutting Costs at UNH: AFP-NH Has a Suggestion, and So Do I…

UNH Burning through YOUR Money

AFP-NH Director Greg Moore fills the “Another View” slot in today’s Union leader with the question, “If you were running a business, how much would you pay your employees not to show up for work?”

He then proceeds to ask, how, in this economic environment, the same University system that cannot control costs, that begs for more and more taxpayer bailouts, can still afford to spend an estimated 6.5 Million dollars per year for professors to take paid sabbaticals that could last up to a year in length?

…we’re not talking about paid time off for vacation, earned by the employee, or other typical situations, such as maternity leave or sick time. Instead, these are the salary and benefit costs paid to professors at the University of New Hampshire, Plymouth State University and Keene State College when they t… are not in classrooms or labs, teaching our students, yet they add to the ever-growing cost of higher education, which is rapidly becoming less affordable each year.

I know you know this but t’s not just Sabbaticals.

UNH Professor Arrested for Assault

A 67 year old professor of art history at UNH was arrested Saturday night after allegedly striking a “female live-in acquaintance with a cane,” as reported in the New Hampshire Union Leader. Smith’s address in the article is listed as 27 Elm Street, Newmarket, which is likley where the event took place, the address given … Read more

Why The Town Of Durham Is Arbitrary To Landlords

“Even in Hell the peasant will have to serve the landlord, for, while the landlord is boiling in a cauldron the peasant will have to put wood under it” —Russian Proverb

Dude_Puking

The Union Leader featured a story on Monday night, “Durham to landlords: Safety standards stand.” Landlords (or to use the contemporary term) Property Owners, get a bad rap. When one reads the aforementioned story, it paints a very glib picture…allows the reader to “fill in the blanks.”

For Rental Property Owners

Never ignore a gut feeling, but never believe that it’s enough.” —Author Unknown

landlordconnectionSo reads the quote at the top of the Landlord Connection, Inc.‘s website. I very rarely outright endorse a service in any of my writings. But today, if there is a service never more worthy of such, it is Landlord Connection. I have used Landlord Connection for over 12 years to screen prospective tenants seeking to rent from me.

NH Listens? No They Don’t. They Tell!

NH Listens is running around the state training “facilitators” to advance a decidedly left wing agenda.  And why not?  The ‘interim’ directer of the Carsey Institute at the University of New Hampshire–which runs NH Listens–is not only a well connected left winger, he doesn’t even live in the granite State.

He lives in Maine.

And have you seen who he donates to politically?

Following in the footsteps of Steve’s great post, I thought I ought to mention (if you hadn’t already heard) there is a student- advocacy organization at UNH called the Student Environmental Action Coalition pressing the university to divest itself from ‘oil and other fossil fuel’ companies.   Mimicking other non-reality-based schools, these little darlings seem to want the world to be run on nothing but clean, green, renewable energy, thus saving the world if not for their progeny (what with free contraception and all that), at least for the polar bears and unicorns. Just how much of UNH’s (2011[i]) $227 million endowment is invested in one form or another of nasty fossil fuels, I do not know.  But I’m pretty sure that none of the university’s or the town of Durham’s utilities or municipal services are currently fueled by solar, wind or fairy dust.

On the contrary, it appears as though electricity is supplied by PSNH and the NH Electric Coop; natural gas is supplied by Northern Utilities; the university has its own water system but the town runs the wastewater treatment plant and trash pickup.

Because They Voted Where It Matters

College kids bussed to polling places by liberals democrats and UNH ProfessorsBoston.com has an article today observing that pro-obama turnout in New Hampshire’s college towns is less than it was in 2008.  There is very intentional mention of concerns (from folks like myself I assume) about out of state students being used to tip the election; but how no one could ever know how they’d vote, and about the promtion by Democrats of the idea that Republicans were tyring to keep them from voting which is why they should.

So much concern in one tiny little article, complete with deceptions, and a new narrative to plumb.

Well I just happen to have a very workable theory about why turnout in NH College towns was down–something I had not considered checking until now, thank you–and it ties directly to a well worn New Hampshire Democrat excuse about why they support out of state student voting in New Hampshire.
