What Zandra Rice Hawkins Was Really Selling At Her “Fake” Sale

cupcakeZandra Rice "The Huckster" Hawkins of Granite State Progress (an out of state funded left wing group) staged a bake sale based on words she put in State Rep Jeanine Notter’s mouth.   

Hawkins just decided that because Notter had more faith in individual responsibility and more local control that this guaranteed that people would suffer; that Notter’s solution meant people would need to have a bake sale to raise money to pay for cancer treatments if New Hampshire tried to opt out of the unconstitutional Health Insurance mandate.

I think this says a good deal about Zandra the Huckster’s world view and it’s not all that flattering.

Democrats, Trains And HB 218

De railedThe Union Leader has a great editorial in this mornings Sunday News titled "Free Trains."  It is great for several reasons the least of which is that it mirrors concerns I have been expressing for years.  That no matter who pays to build them, someone has to pay to keep them.  That would be New Hampshire Taxpayers. But Democrats are aghast that the NH House would dissolve the New Hampshire Rail Transit Authority–the head of a beast seeking to force commuter rail upon us–because hey it doesn’t cost anything.

But it does cost and it could lead to something that costs us even more in the future.  A lot more.

December 2009 at NH Insider – I hit it out of the park when someone compared road taxes to rail taxes.

Passenger rail costs are not limited to the root infrastructure itself.  That would be rails versus roads.   Taxpayers would have to subsidize passenger rail-cars, fuel the cars, maintain the cars, probably pay the workers and their benefits, and support the entire system when it fails to turn a profit, which will be always and probably forever.   While roads have some other infrastructure nothing compares to rail.

In contrast people buy their own cars, and pay for their own fuel and maintenance.  They may buy the car to get to a job that’s probably not funded by taxpayers either. (Except in Concord) Taxpayers do not need to subsidize any of that where with rail we’re supporting all of it.  So there is no possible apples to apples comparison to road and rail taxes. 

The state also makes a lot of money on registration fees and fuel taxes for road vehicles, tolls and license plates, and some towns rely so heavily on registration fees that even minor reductions can cause budget issues.   Passenger rail offers no comparable net increase in revenues and in all likely hood a net loss.  So Passenger rail risks reducing revenues and increasing tax obligations for no significant greater good.

The New Hampshire House RINO Caucus

RINOsHow a representative votes can tell you a lot about their priorities.  The folks who just  voted against HB 89, who happen to run around with an (R) next to their name, think that state-crushing federal mandates like Obamacare should not be resisted by every means possible. 

They seem willing to accept that the Federal government has the right to require citizens to buy something, though I can almost guarantee they would never force you to buy and own a gun for your own self-defense.

A handful of elected "republicans" always seem willing to give up a little more State sovereignty and local control to a distance central power. (A dwindling handful, if you take my meaning).

They are what we lovingly refer to as RINO’s.  Republicans In Name Only.

Now some will argue, RINOs and Democrats mostly, that these folks voted against HB 89, and ACT requiring the NH Attorney General to join the challenge against the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, because it was (insert left wing rhetoric here.)  It really does not matter, but I think my favorite is separation of powers which is a silly argument.  How do you legislate anything affecting any department under the governors leadership under those terms.  You can’t.  But I digress. The point is that for most of them this is not their first visit to the RINO rodeo.

These folks are the kind of republicans who might support John Lynch for Governor, or go to a No Labels meeting, or join a left wing run ‘bi-partisan’ House caucus.  Of course that is the only way the democrats will have them.  As democrats they would have no voice in that party at all unless they went all in on the socialist progressive agenda.  They are old school democrats, and unless their only hope is to either form an independent/moderate caucus, or take back the democrat party from the extremist liberals.  There is no longer any room for big government politicians in a small government party.

So without further delay, and to ensure their continued glorification by the left as victims, here are those ‘republicans’ who voted against HB 89 …on the jump!

While the UL’s Mark Hayward story gives a description of some of the things the bill would allegedly do, the story also contains statements that the leadership disavowed this piece of legislation. Regardless of where one stands either supporting HB 523 or HB 330, it is clear that Republicans agree to disagree on some levels.

Don’t Say There Is No Place To Cut.

Privatize the public school system and shift the educators, staff, maintenance, and transportation and facility costs off the books, along with converting public benefits and pensions into the same kind of programs the rest of the private markets have, and you would see property tax rates plummet.

Granite State Progress Goes Tucson

This week I did a call-in because last week Zandra Rice Hawkins of Granite State Progress attended Congressman Guinta’s town hall in Laconia, and at one point decided to storm up towards the podium to ‘set the record straight.’ She was not tackled, tasered or shot. In fact she spoke her mind–as liberals are wont to do–without interruption and was even given a chance to ask questions despite essentially hijacking the event.

“The fact is, elections shouldn’t matter as much as they do.”

A Modest (Budget Cutting) Proposal

Public Sector Unions SuckThere are plenty of towns like mine trying to figure out where they can cut costs.  But every conversation seems to end at cutting education or safety services.  While I find it hard to believe that there is nothing else in a budget you can trim, I think I have come up with a reasonable compromise (if not just for the sake of our own rhetorical amusement) that can cut at least a little bit of money from the budget without affecting staffing or resources.

Any teacher, support staff, officer, firefighter or public employee who currently pays union dues will have the total amount of dues paid calculated and that amount removed from their respective department budgets (aka:paychecks).  This will do the one thing no one ever seems willing to do; include the unions in the burden of cost cutting.

Guns vs Progressives

Gun%20Free%20Zone%20Poll.gifAfter 12 more hours the Londonderry News on-line polling percentages tell the same story.  People who vote on polls at the Londonderry news would (so far) overwhelmingly allow their fourth grader into the New Hampshire State House even though it is not a Gun Free Zone.

For those reading this from  police states like Massachusetts, New York or New Jersey…Venezuela, Cuba and so on, you might be asking what the hell am I talking about?  Allow me to review.

Notes on the Nutty Professor’s lecture.

Ah yes, the Nutty Professor (aka Leo Sandy of Plymouth State University) penned a column that just called for a bit of commentary.  Although we have commented on him before, be sure that he is a very left-wing person who would have no problem in confiscating other peoples’ property for fairness and believes that we, as a nation, should renounce our sovereignty to the United Nations.

Professor Sandy has given us a column that perfectly shows the condescending and patronizing attitude that Progressives have toward most of the general public.  

Instead of reinforcing his phrase "must accept the person as he or she is" and thereby acknowledging that the vast majority of the public are grown adults, he clearly elucidates and provides the perfect example of one of the Pillars of Progressivism – we, the elite, must "progress" the rest of society  to a higher plane of being – we must undertake to "perfect you" – and then continues his column as if we are mere children under his tutelage.

He uses the horrible tragedy in Tuscon of a seemingly deranged person to subsume the notion of personal responsibility and free will to that of the Progressive ideal: it is the sense of a Collective responsibility & salvation, an entire society, that drives an individual to actions resulting in bad outcomes.  The lesson he attempts to  teach is that if only the rest of us were as self-actualized as he, society would be a wonderful utopia (but not until we all think like him).

What about his acceptance of who we are, sir, for it is clear that he will not.  The majority of his words were spent in lecturing us on civility and the marketing of another Pillar of Progressivism – that of technocrats guiding the rest of society via a "scientific society" as  his lecture of Maslov’s principles of psychology pointedly outlines. Then and only then, will we all live in efficiency, harmony and kumbaya-ness.

Hmmm, I do seem to remember a Letter from him just before the Nov. 2 election that pretty much made Republicans and Conservatives out to be the spawn of Satan and the second coming of Attila and his Horde.  Acceptance of “the other”, Leo?

Perhaps before we allow the Progressives to “perfect we children” to his level of conformance of political correctness and behavior (where much of it demands we give up our individual selves to the collective), may I suggest that he spend a few moments contemplating the three words: mote, beam, eye.

When I read Ms. Piotrow’s letter to the editor I was astounded and left speechless.  Then I realized her letter to the editor was a living document open to interpretation and could change meaning with time. What Ms. Piotrow really meant to say is that she has lived in a cloistered world surrounded by people who do not believe in the rights of "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness."  Further, her elitist progressive big government view of the world is far better then that envisioned by the Founding Fathers of this great Nation. She also believes that simple people can not lead their own lives without direction of a large centralized government.   

You are right Ms. Piotrow, our Founders did believe the Constitution was a living document.  However, the process of change was only to occur through amendments, not selective interpretation.  Our Founding Fathers did not look at the future to create a new government as you stated but to history; they choose a Republic because throughout history Democracies have failed.  

Funny that Ms. Piotrow (Emily’s List Contributor, Former Director of International Planned Parenthood and Director of the Population Crisis Committee) sees that the constitution as a living document but does not see human fetuses as living beings worth protecting. There is no telling how many lives have been lost over the last 40 years due to Ms. Piotrow belief in abortion to solve the so called "Population Crisis",  please do not try to kill the Constitution as well Ms. Piotrow.

Ms. Piotrow I realize that your letter is not a living LTE left open to change as I see fit and neither is our Constitution.

Let’s get past the surface level, shall we?

A well written piece from my friend Will from the Samsphere group I belong to; abstracted (emphasis mine):

The triple crown of liberalism is relativism as opposed to absolute truth, multiculturalism as opposed to tradition and virtue, and self-indulgence (in the form of drug use) as opposed to self-discipline. Is this what led to the shooting in Tucson, Arizona?

Thanks to the tenets of relativism, the Arizona man who tried to murder a member of Congress, and who murdered 6 others, including a 9 year old girl, was able to imbibe in the worse possible ideologies without any real social constraints on such thinking or context.

Was the shooter’s avowed love of Karl Marx or of Mein Kampf, both manuals for totalitarianism, questioned or were his studies of these writings put within the context of writings of our Founders or the Bible? In our present culture, imposed as it is from above, he would not have received such instruction that might have dissuaded him from embracing the hatefulness of Marx and Hitler.
