Projection

This can’t be stated often enough, particularly when the dreamers on the left imagine tragedy to excuse their second amendment positions–liberals must be afraid of gun owners because the people who think like liberals are simply too unhinged to be trusted with firearms.

The imagined tragedy of which I speak was called out by Skip here, authored by Mike Hoefer on Boo Hoo Hamster.

AND! Imagine what would have happend (sic) if a gunman did this in the State House the envisioned by the NH Republican Party.

… Tragedy in Concord NH today as several lawmakers and members of the gallery returned fire when a distraught gunman opened fire on on a young woman testifying on behalf of Mariage (sic) Equity (sic). A third grader from Keene on a field trip to the capitol was caught in the crossfire and  is in critical condition at Concord Hospital… Stay tuned for more information as it become available…

First, no one on the right who objects to the state mandating the definition of the word marriage is going to draw iron over this issue.  Republicans actually value life, enough to actually defend it.  But Hoefer needs this fantasy to satisfy his understanding of the world.  In his circle of friends violent expression on political and legislative matters must be so prevalent that he has no other point of reference.  He knows democrats who get so angry about these kinds of debates that, if armed, might actually succumb to their anger and open fire.

The progressive answer is to disarm everyone which history shows us leaves the unlawful as the only ones armed.  But guns are the fulcrum of political power, not just physically but mentally. (some dreamers believing perhaps that removing them will change that relationship). In their absence the understanding is that you really are helpless before the threat of violence by the state; there is nothing the state cannot then proceed to do to you.

The leftist responds, "but you have free speech and assembly, and the vote."  But the leaders on the left have tried to use the government to limit speech, prevent assembly, and dilute the vote.  The democrats view the constitution and the bill of rights as too limiting on government power.  It prevent the federal government from ‘getting things done.’  So diluting self defense is just a step to banning whatever else may obstruct the government growth agenda.

And while the gun hate could just be, on some level, a reflection of their own naval gazing into the unstable nature of progressives, the more important concern is the projection of political power (incidental or intentional) that results from it. In any successful tyranny, the first thing you have to do is disarm the populace.
