President Obama – a Bin Laden lesson: real heros don’t like the limelight

Real heros don’t like to be called “hero”.  They look at what they’ve done with the attitude of “just doing my job” and sometimes have a hard time even accepting thanks for their actions for which many of us are thankful.  After all, they reason, we signed up to do what we do – we simply do what we said we’d do. Even still, I will often thank a veteran for their service (or a family member who has (or had) someone in our Armed Forces as well) – it is deserved.  Yet, when people thank me for the service of the Eldest and the Youngest, I feel embarrassed to a degree in that I have done nothing – they are the ones that risked themselves for us all.

President Obama, that is a lesson you have not yet learned – to put away the “I” and “Me” and “My” words:

Instead, you should have been overusing the words “those heros” or “our heros” and give credit where credit was REALLY due – but you didn’t.  You have taken credit, major credit, for making the decision and for the success of the raid that ended up with OBL dead.  Well, thanks for saying “Go” – but that should have been viewed as just part of your job, too.  You risked nothing, except a political standing.  The SEALS and the air crews – they risked it all for their nation and for meting out justice to one who justice was delayed for far too long.

A New Front in The War on Women – Do Liberal Chicks Dig Polygamy?

Piggy-backing off of Tim’s post on Mark Steyn’s recent article, I think the polygamy thing (which Tim does not mention) is worth visiting–repeatedly of course–just to remind everyone of the kind of campaign this has been and will continue to be.  Nothing coming from the Obama side will be relevant or substantive, everything utter nonsense.  And nonsense with the same lack of sourcing on the Democrat side as we’ve seen in everything they do.

Mark Steyn again: On dog-eating, exploding cigars, and “self-loathing cultural relativism”….

Mark Steyn continues a recent rampage! And damn is he good. Freestater Mark Steyn (pace the Democrats: In New Hampshire we are all Freestaters now) is on a red-hot roll, if not a full-blown tantara! When it comes to Obama and the “We-Are-All-Socialists-Now” Democrats, Steyn’s newly re-energized acidulousness is bracing! Take no prisoners!  I mean…consider our President’s penchant for dog-eating: Steyn notes that it won’t hurt the President with certain Democrat voters, because “he knows that to the average upscale white liberal it has the electric frisson of the exotic other.”

“Exotic other”? “Electric frisson”? Oh yeah. In Obama’s world, all that matters is – Cool?

Snazzy. Cool.  Hip.  He’s all that: But is that all? Is that why someone wants to become President? Results?  Good Governance?  Who cares about that in our celebrity “15 minutes of fame” environment? I’d rather have concrete results.

Last I remember, NH sent both Frank Guinta and Charlie Bass to CUT THE SPENDING.

Low expectations for Charlie on my part – am not enthused that he has failed to meet that height challenged standard.  For Frank, however, who campaigned hard with TEA Party constituencies, the bar was higher – MUCH higher.  Sigh….Today, I get to repeat my lament: why isn’t your name among the other Conservatives that voted against spending more?  Oh, to be sure, I got both eBlasts about H.R. 4628:

  • Charlie’s: Earlier today, the House passed, on a bipartisan vote, legislation to extend the current student loan interest rate of 3.4 percent for one year.  Without Congressional action, the rate would double on July 1st, making it even more difficult for students struggling to find jobs in such a weak economy to pay back their loans.  I strongly supported this fully-offset, fiscally-responsible legislation and hope the Senate moves on it as soon as possible.
  • Frank’s: Representative Frank Guinta (R, NH-01) today voted for the passage of H.R. 4628, the Interest Rate Reduction Act.  It would extend the current 3.4 percent rate for college undergraduate recipients of Federal Direct Stafford loans.  Without congressional action, that rate will double on July 1.  The bill was approved in a 215 to 195 vote.

I note with no small irony that Obama has recently visited over 120 colleges and universities.   My response concerning this out-and-out-pander vote back at Frank’s office (NH CD-2 is not my district and I’ve given up on Bass):

So, we’re taking money from a program that most of us want to kill, for which we had no money for it in the first place, to fund a program that Obama nationalized.

Obama, Birth of Hope (Ack!)

I was in the midst of a two year run with New Hampshire Taxpayer Radio when Obama and the Democrats were elected so I have file folders full of weekly show notes (not unlike Rush Limbaugh’s daily ‘stack of stuff’).  There is a good deal of material there and I don’t venture into the printed pile often, but I had to find something (which I did) but not before stumbling across this glorious discovery (on the jump).

It is from an October 2010 edition of The Weekly Standard’s parody page, only this was not a parody.  It was an example of just how badly a majority of American’s had been fooled by the Great Deceiver–Barack Obama–and how obnoxious the cult of personality had become; a sin they would punish his party for (at least a little bit), a few weeks after this issue was printed, in the November 2010 blow out.

Win The Future (WTF)

Worst recession in history.  Had three years to work on it, two of them with a Democrat majority congress, no budget from the Senate since 2009,  the economy still sucks, we have an election coming up, and what are Democrats running on? – Contraception. – A billionaires Secretary – Dogs Seriously?

People need to re-think how they think about progressives.  For example, the Buffett rule, which is already dead in the water because even Democrats won’t support it, would only generate enough tax revenue to pay 0.375% of the 1.2 Trillion dollar estimated annual deficit.  That’s for this year.  (0.375%) Using history as a guide, even if implemented, that percentage would go down because the number of people the legislation taxes will go down.  If you tax it you get less of it.  They will leave, move their money, or no longer make enough.  And if Obama gets re-elected, well, the deficit will go up and the percentage down. (Don’t worry–the left has a plan for that).

The “increased tax eventually leads to diminishing returns” rule is one that Democrats willingly ignore for the sake of rhetoric, sound bites, election politics, (as a matter of policy in general), and let’s be honest here–to use class-warfare-angry-minority-mob-rule populism to implement yet another new tax that the Democrats can later broaden to affect more and more people, including people who are not at all rich, probably because they were actually dumb enough to support this tax now.

If you do not change how you think about progressive motivations you will pay the price.

Decisions – which will you choose?

Make no mistake – there is a political battle going on simply because it is a Presidential election year.  But also make no mistake – there is a philosophical battle going on for the soul of what this country can and should be; what should the Land of the Free have as its guiding principle?  This battle is between two diametrically opposed visions – the first is that now being pushed by the radical vision of Obama and his punishing posse of Progressives defined by the socialist collective ideal.  In this world, Government is the most important part of the country’s life and guides and defines (and ultimately demands)  how the rest of us will live our lives.  Here, they would devolve us back to a system where elites and technocrats, within the almost unlimited confines of the Administrative State, would carefully let us know what is good and bad, right and wrong.  All, we are assured, would live equitably with completely shared values – predetermined by the Politically Correct set.  Society well defined and ‘efficient’ – the messy chaos that would otherwise exist is, well, would be a thing of the past.

The alternative is what this Republic was founded upon – radical vision that all men are created equal with Rights given by their Creator where each person is free to make of themselves what they will, all the gift of both the genius and sacrifices of our Founders.  The new notion that we get to decide how we are to be governed by our consent by a Government that is (supposed to be) responsive to us (instead of the other way around).  Further, that Government is bound by a limiting document that explicitly lays out what it can and cannot do, what each part of that government should and shouldn’t do, and all for our benefit (instead of for the benefit of Government).

Hmmm, this is not how I thought this post was gonna go; well, words happen.  What got me started was the that phrase that is now the title (from Hot Air and ended up as the title of my previous post: You’re On Your Own vs We Refuse to Leave You Alone) as well as a memory that got kicked off as I read it.
